Robert’s time of 10 hours, 45 minutes placed him 265th overall in the event which had attracted an entry of over 2,500 from over 60 countries and which was held in terrible conditions, with rain falling from early morning. Robert was joined in the event by his ‘Mac’s Misfits’ teammates, Kevin McElhinney, 12h 20m, (Virginia), Trevor McWeeney, 12h 34m (Virginia) and Sandra McQuade, 13h 01m, (Killinkere). A brilliant result for all, considering that the course consisted of a 180km cycle followed by a full 26.2mile marathon—the swim part of the event was cancelled due to the rough conditions in the sea.  Also well done to all the other athletes from the county who took part in the event, the training now starts for next year’s event!!

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 1st July 2019

Senior;

East Cavan Gaels 2-08 Mullahoran 1-15. A very enjoyable championship encounter in Mullahoran on Sunday morning. Our third encounter with the champions this year and on each occasion we get closer and closer. Once again a very good first half display backed up in the third quarter but in the end the cuteness that Mullahoran have at this level helped them pull clear at the end. We keep building and get on with the final round v Pearse Og in a couple of weeks.

Under 17; We have entered into the new Monaghan Under 17 league.

Under 15; A very good performance but one which wasn’t enough on the night v a good Castleblayney side in the Tain Og U15 semi-final on Monday last. We are as good as our Monaghan counterparts at this level which bodes well for the future.

A weeks break for all our U13/15/17s and we get back together next week.

Mondays U15 squad.

Under 13; These lads are now back in training preparing for the Cavan championship. No training this week.

Under 11; Two big blitzes ahead. Derrynoose hopefully for the U10s on Sunday next and Breffni 3G for all U11s on Monday.

Under 7/9; Under 7/9 blitz Monday 8th on Breffni 3G. U9 training Friday 6-7 on the astro at the Vale.

Congrats; Huge congratulations to James Tully and Hugh Smith who won football Feile with their club Laragh Utd at the weekend. James has the unique achievement of winning Feile in both football and hurling in successive years. Well done lads.

Laragh squad with James No.9 and Hugh No. 21. Well done lads!

Above; Daire Leddy, front row third from left in ECG top, representing ECG and Cavan at National Feile skills competition in Abbotstown in Dublin last week. In good company but not out of place. Well done Daire!

The week ahead; No U13/15/17 training this week.

Monday; U11 training 6.30-7.30 in Killann.

Thursday; Senior training tbc.

Friday; U9 training on the astro at the Vale 6-7pm. €3 each and water bottle please.

Bailieborough News Thursday 27th June 2019

Bailieborough News. June 27th 2019. Matthew J. Cullen.

‘Thank You’ to the People of Killann Parish from Fr. Michael Router: “The Mass of Thanksgiving and Farewell on Friday night last was, as I take my leave of this wonderful Parish, a truly memorable and emotional occasion for me. The generosity, kindness and support that I have received on a daily basis over the past 5 years seemed to be augmented and magnified for me during those wonderful hours of prayer and communal togetherness, that we shared on Friday. I was humbled by your presence, your kind words and your love and I know that nothing I can say or do will ever fully express my gratitude to you.

Since I stepped down as Parish Priest over a week ago to begin preparing for my new role in the Archdiocese of Armagh, I have felt the sadness of loss as I realise that my time in this Parish has come to an end. It is difficult and daunting to brgin again and to start all over in a place where I know so few people but I always know that I have your support and prayers in the years ahead. Prayer is the lifeblood of all our endeavours as Christians. Prayer changes everything and makes all things new. Keep me in your prayers and I will keep you in mine.

I would like to thank all those who were involved in the Mass and function on Friday night especially the Pastoral Council and Finance Committees of the Parish who organised the event under the leadership of Peter Foster, Anne Ryan, Andrea Connelly and Fr. Martin Gilcreest. Thank you also to Fr. Martin for his lovelt sermon. Thank you to all the combined Parish Choirs, who were exceptional and who greatly enhanced the Liturgy, to the concelebrating Priests and the Rev. Ian Horner, Church of Ireland Rector of the Bailieborough Group of Parishes, to Sacristan May Cassidy, to the Altar servers, the Ministers of the Word, those who read the Prayers of the Faithful, Eucharistic Ministers, stewards and the symbol and gift bearers. Thank you to all who prepared the Community Centre for the function afterwards and to Fox’s Catering for the beautiful refreshments.

Thanks to all who were present, to those who sent messages of regret that they couldn’t be there and to all who have phoned me, sent cards, letters, emails and texts over the past six weeks. Your kindness I will never forget and I hope that God will bless you and your families with strong faith, good health and much happiness in the future”.

For those who may have missed Fr. Michael’s Thanksgiving and Farewell Mass, it is available by clicking on: church tv services/Bailieborough St Annes…
