Lough an Leagh ‘Moonwalk’: The Lough an Leagh ‘Moonwalk’ 2023 will take place on Lough an Leagh on Saturday next, June 3rd, commencing at 8.15pm, from the Picnic Area on Lough an Leagh. All proceeds go to local Cancer Charities. Entry fee is €10 and refreshments will be served afterwards. All welcome.

Bailieborough Walking Group: Wednesday, May 31st: Nobber to Castletown: (E) Walk, 1.5 to 2.00hrs. Leaving Tesco carpark at 6.40pm. In Nobber parking in front of the R. C. Church or on Main St. Parking also at the Library on the righthand side going into Nobber. Walk commencing at 7.15pm.
Wednesday, June 7th: Skeagh: Medium Walk, approximately 1.5 hours. Leaving Tesco carpark at 7.00pm. Meeting at carpark on left just beside Skeaghville Chalets. From Bailieborough take the Cavan Road for 3kms, turn right for the Cootehill Road (R191). At 2kms, take a right turn at the sign for Skeaghville , then continue straight on this road for approx 2kms. Walk commencing at 7.15pm. All Welcome.
Blessing of the Graves, 2023: The Blessing of the Graves will take place in St. Annes Cemetery, Bailieborough on Sunday, September 3rd at 12 noon.
The Blessing of the Graves will take place in Killann Old Cemetery on Saturday, August 19th at 7.00pm and the Blessing of the Graves will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Shercock on Sunday, August 20th, immediately after 11.30am, Mass.
Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Rosaleen, daughter Karen, sons Gary and Gavin, sons-in-law Sean and Aidan, daughters-in-law Kelly and Deirdre, grandchildren Ryan, Madeline and Tyler, extended family, and wide circle of friends on the death of Tom Mackey, Cloverhill, Lisnalea, Bailieborough, Co Cavan and formerly of Crossmolina, Co Mayo, who passed away on Sunday, 21st May 2023 peacefully at the Sullivan Centre, Cavan surrounded by his loving family. Tom was predeceased by his daughter Vanessa.
Tom’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough on Tuesday, May 23rd and afterwards, Tom’s remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Bailieborough Library: Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the first Thursday of each month starting on Thursday June 1st 2023 from 2pm-4.30pm. No appointment is necessary.
FREE study space and WIFI available here for all who are in the middle of studying. Other services for students include printing, photocopying, local history/history resources, reference books, public PCs, staff advice, comfortable warm spaces. All are welcome!
Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to husband Dave, loving daughter Jenny, son Simon, grandchildren Lois and Kian, brothers Jim, T.P., Ultan, Michael, Sean, Philip and Nicholas, extended family and wide circle of friends on the death of Vicky (Vera) Wall (née Callaghan), 12 Birstall Road, Birstall, Leicester, England and late of Blackhills, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, who passed away peacefully on Monday, May 22nd , 2023. Vicky was predeceased by her parents James and Veronica, brother Mark and sisters Mary and Carmel.
Vickys remains will be repatriated to Ireland at a later date.
Bailieborough Celtic A.F.C: Congratulations and Well Done to the Bailieboro Celtic U13 Boys team, who were crowned Division 1 Champions last week, following a fantastic season. Well done boys and management.
The senior men’s Bailieboro Celtic side, came out 4-1 winners against a tough Albion Rovers side on Thursday evening last to make it 5 wins out of 5 and keep their lead at the top of the division.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to daughters Patricia and Susan, son Adrian, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons-in-law James and Eugene, daughter-in-law Tracey, sister Cammie, brothers Richard, Michael, Ray and Maxie, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends on the death of Charlie Barber, Great Barr, Birmingham, England and formerly of “The Forge”, Killagriffe, Tierworker, Co Meath, who passed away on Tuesday, 23rd May 2023 peacefully at Sandwell Hospital, West Bromwich surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was predeceased by his wife Mary and brother Eugene.
Charlie’s Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday 8th June 2023 at 7:30pm in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hunters Road, Handsworth, Birmingham.
Charlie’s remains will be reposing at Clarke’s Funeral Home, Bailieborough, Co Cavan on Friday, 9th June, from 5pm – 8pm. Funeral to arrive at St. Patrick’s Church, Tierworker on Saturday, 10th June, for a Memorial Mass at 11am with burial afterwards in Moynalty Cemetery.
Killann Community Games: Ladies Football: What a day of football, on Sunday evening last in Stradone. Unfortunately our U12 girls lost by a point but our U14 girls won putting them through to Ulster!! Fantastic work girls we are super proud of you all !

Walk, Jog or Run: Run, Walk or Jog is back for the lovely bright evenings at 8pm at the Chapel car park, Lakeshore, Bailieborough on every Monday and Wednesday. It’s a fun, free activity, all newcomers welcome. Other activities will be added as the weeks go on, like open water swimming, cycling and kayaking. All welcome.
Official Opening of Amenity Area: The official opening of the newly re furbished amenity area at Loch Barna Grow lake Maudabawn will take place on this Friday evening June 2nd at 7.00pm.All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served and there will be some musical entertainment to follow.
Work has been on going over the past year, laying down a tramac surface. A seating area has been developed, along with changing room and cabin have been constructed. The lake, in recent year has become a popular focal point for swimmers, kayaking, runners , and cyclists. Or indeed, if you just want to go and sit down in a quiet place among the drumlin hills and relax in the peace and quiet of this hidden gem, then this is the place to go to, in the locality.

Public Consultation – Have your say!
Cavan County Council is commencing the preparation of a Town Centre First
Masterplan for the future development of Bailieborough.
The aim of this Masterplan is to set out a clear vision for the future direction of the
town’s physical, economic, environmental, social and cultural development. When
completed, the plan will be used to seek funding and attract investment into the
town.
We want to ensure that the Masterplan meets the aspirations of the whole
community, and we would like to meet with all stakeholders within the local
community to hear your views on what should be included in the Masterplan for
your town.
A public consultation on the Masterplan will take place in the Bailie Hotel, Main
Street, Bailieborough on Tuesday next, 30th May from 7.30pm – 9.30pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bailieborough Library: ‘The Corleck Head and Other Aspects of East Cavan’s Ancient Past’ a lecture by Jonathan Smyth will take place here in the Library on Thursday evening May 25th at 7pm as part of our Bealtaine celebrations.
We are delighted to welcome our colleague Jonathan. He is the author of ‘Gentleman and Scholar: Thomas James Barron, 1903 – 1992’; a member of Cumann Seanchais Breifne, and a regular contributor to The Anglo-Celt.

Bailieborough Celtic A.F.C: Great start to the season for the Bailieboro Celtic Senior Men’s side , who are playing their football in the N.E.F.L. Division 2. The team has won their first four matches and now are top of the division. Keep up the good work and the best of luck for the season!
