Stolen Items from St. Annes Cemetery

It has been reported that a number of items particularly good quality ceramic pots have been stolen from plots in St. Anne’s Cemetery. This is an appalling act and very upsetting for the families affected. The Community Text Alert Group will be erecting a sign in the Cemetery shortly and anyone noticing  any suspicious activity there is asked to report it immediately. It has been suggested that families that have valuable items on their plots should have them engraved with their family name or with the name of the deceased person in order to ensure that they cannot be sold on or used by others.

Cavan and Meath Credit Unions Link Up

Merger will bring together 17,000 members and €85m in assets, delivering enhanced services to members.

The members of Kingscourt Credit Union, Bailieborough Credit Union and St. Mary’s Moynalty Credit Union, with offices in Cavan and Meath have voted for the amalgamation of the three Credit Unions, which will be renamed Link Credit Union Limited.

The enlarged Credit Union becomes one of the 50 largest credit unions in the country, with assets of over €85m. It has a combined membership of almost 17,000 who will benefit from four office locations where they can conduct their business face to face, as well as by telephone 6 days per week, and online 24/7 each day of the year.

The newly merged Credit Unions will also continue to lead the way in the provision of loans, savings and payments services with accounts now being BIC and IBAN enabled, meaning members can now receive payments such as salaries, pensions, social welfare payments, grants, etc. through their Credit Union account. Members can also make payments electronically to bank accounts in Ireland, UK or any one of 30+ SEPA countries. Work is ongoing to provide further additional products and services in the near future.

Commenting on the merger, Seamus Newcombe, Chief Executive Officer said: “This merger is about serving the present and future financial needs of members. The ongoing costs of delivering an infrastructure which meets increased regulatory requirements, means only those Credit Unions with larger asset bases and solid financial strength are likely to be able to provide the stability, security and range of services which customers demand. There have been bank closures over the past number of years and this has lead to more people relying on credit unions. So by increasing our scale, we in turn will have the capacity to better service those demands, with a wider suite of products and services; such as faster decisions on loans, larger loans, current accounts and other financial products.”

According to Chairman, Frank Corbally: “All three Credit Unions recognise and appreciate the loyalty and support of their members and look forward to continuing to serve them as a larger, stronger combined entity whose key focus remains on delivering the community based  personal service which is the cornerstone of the Credit Union ethos.”

The Link Credit Union merger will be the 48th successfully completed merger since the enactment of the revised regulatory requirements for credit unions in 2012. There are currently a further 121 credit unions in active discussions regarding amalgamations, according to The Credit Union Restructuring Board, which assists Credit Unions with voluntary mergers.

SQUARE BAR WIN THE FIRST EVER BAILIE BOWL

PRESS RELEASE

SQUARE BAR WIN THE FIRST EVER BAILIE BOWL

Big crowd at The Vale enjoy top night of soccer & fundraising!

Bailieborough, July 3, 2015:

The Bailieboro Soccer Sixes tournament reached its conclusion last Friday evening when a large crowd gathered at The Vale to enjoy the semifinals and final.

After a nine week league was completed the top four sides in the competition for local pubs advanced to a final evening where favourites The Square Bar played Fox’s Bar and The Castle Inn took on Crossans Ramblers.

The Square Bar were the deserved winners of the competition, beating Fox’s Bar in their semi-final before overwhelming The Castle Inn in the final itself, known as The Bailie Bowl. Square Bar captain Calvin Daly was presented on the pitch with The Paddy Bird Memorial Cup, named in honour of the local sportsman who tragically passed away in 2011, by Paddy’s parents Francis and Kathleen.

The fine weather helped bring a large crowd to The Vale, the home of Bailieboro Celtic, to witness all the action before everyone then headed to The Castle Inn for the presentations and after-party.

One of the main aims of the tournament is to raise money for local charities and good causes. This time it was the Hope For Cian fund that was the beneficiary as over €550 was raised through the sale of matchday programmes and raffle tickets, with a pair of tickets to see chart-topper Jason Derulo at the 3Arena in Dublin one of the prizes on offer.

“The tournament has been a huge success with almost every pub in town entering a team,” said organiser Karl Hofer. “The soccer has been of a very high standard and we’ve raised some good  money for a great cause. But none of this would have been possible without the support of the tournament sponsors, namely Bridie Rahill, Elite Betting & Kevin Argue.”

“There has been a really great buzz about the place since it kicked-off, so much so we plan to do it twice a year now. We’ll go again in October and hopefully get even more people involved.”

Visit the tournament website for more info: www.bailie6.leaguerepublic.com  – ENDS.

Bailieborough News Thursday 25th June 2015

Bailieborough News. June 25th  2015. Matthew J. Cullen.

Féile na nGael 2015;

What an incredible weekends celebration of hurling in Bailieborough and Kingscourt. Well over a thousand people passed through the gates of both venues from counties Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Louth and Wicklow. Our lads did the club proud in their four games against good opposition and gave as good as they got in some pulsating matches. Our guests for the weekend, Caiseal Gaels from Mayo also had a great weekend of Breffni hospitality. There are a huge amount of people to thank for this event being such a success and we will get to thank them individually over the weeks ahead but for now please take our grateful thanks for whatever role you may have played over the weekend and indeed in the weeks and months in advance in preparation of the event. We must though give special thanks and praise to Kathryn O’Flynn and Sharon Daly and their team for their outstanding event management and suffice to say the event would not have went as well as it did without their leadership, planning and organisational skills.

Thanks also to both our GAA partners Bailieborough Shamrocks and Kingscourt Stars for having their grounds in pristine condition for such a prestigious competition.

Bailieborough News Thursday 28th May 2015

Bailieborough News. May 28th 2015. Matthew J. Cullen.

Bailieborough Tidy Towns calls it a day with a Final Lake Project:

Due to a serious lack of interest shown by Local Businesses/ Community of Bailieborough, the Tidy Towns Committee regrets that it must call it a Final Day. Please understand the reason why our small voluntary committee cannot continue and the impact this may have on the image of our Town with a risk of excessive litter and weeds appearing on our streets and no display of Flowers or Hanging Baskets to welcome visitors or tourists to our town.

It is very disappointing that our town may no longer remain the ‘Pride of Place’—that it deserves. Only time will tell the real impact this will have on our town and unfortunately the evidence already exists!

The committee together with Rose McCabe, Sadie/Bobby Gray and Sean O’Reilly sincerely thank its loyal volunteers and sponsors for supporting their work over the last 12 years. This is a sad time for all and the committee wishes the town all the best in the future.

As a farewell to you all, the committee hope to undertake one final project that will help enhance the recreational space at the front of the Town Lake. The completion date is set for July 2015. And the committee would greatly appreciate your support when fundraising for the project.

Please remember, we all have a responsibility to care for our Town.
