Bailieborough News. June 28th 2021 . Matthew J. Cullen.

Farewell to Fr. Rafal Siwek: Last weekend the parish of Killann bid farewell to Fr. Rafal Siwek. Fr. Rafal has been a curate in the parish of Killann sine September 2019 mainly based in Shercock. In the short time that he has been in the parish, Fr. Rafal has endeared himself to young and old by his friendly, outgoing nature and by the spiritual care he has provided in the Shercock and Killann area. He very quickly integrated into the community and during the height of the pandemic, Fr. Rafal put into place a radio system in Shercock. Many people really enjoyed and drew comfort from the evening Prayer Services, he broadcast over the radio system including the ‘celebrity’ guest interviews!

Fr. Rafal is returning to his native Poland to tend to his elderly father. He has worked in the Kilmore Diocese for the past 13 years and he hopes to return to Kilmore in due course. The parish of Killann thanks Fr. Rafal for his service here and we wish him and his father every blessing in the years to come.

St. Annes:  We especially encourage our young families to get back into the habit of coming to Mass. It will do us a power of good to be together and to worship God together as a community of Faith.

Local landmark pub sold to County Council:  Sarah O’Reilly says, It was an honour for me, as Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council to sign a contract for the purchase of the former Town and Country Pub on Main Street, Bailieborough. Bailieborough Shamrocks G.F.C. : It has been brought to the GAA Clubs attention that even though we have the Cheese Factory Car Park open for parking at Training Times, people are still parking up on the footpaths and blocking them by abandoning cars on same. This is not acceptable and all COACHES AND PARENTS are asked to follow the Club Instructions and park in the Cheese Factory Car Park. Lakeland Dairies have been very helpful allowing us use their grounds for parking as we continue works on our own Car Park. Wheelchair users and people out walking children in prams have been unable to use the public footpaths on both sides of the pitch gates as it has been impossible to pass cars that are on these footpaths.

Bailieborough News. May 17th 2021 . Matthew J. Cullen.

St. Annes: It is great to see people back at Mass. There has been a lovely upbeat atmosphere since the restrictions were partially lifted. People are glad to be able to get out again, see old friends, have a chat, pray together as a community and receive the Eucharist.
St. Anne’s in Bailieborough is a large Church and under the restrictions, it will be able to accommodate up to 100 family units at the weekend. It is not intended to put a booking system in place because the management system worked well last Autumn/Winter, when the Church was last open.

Internal work has begun in St. Anne, Killann and it will remain closed for the next month or so.  The Killann Saturday Vigil Mass at 8.30pm is transferred to St. Patricks , Shercock.  A second Mass will be celebrated in Shercock on Sundays at 10.00am in addition to the 11.30am Mass. The extra Sunday Mass is a temporary measure and will be reviewed after a month. It is being introduced because St. Patrick’s is a smaller Church and Mass attendance is restricted to 50 people. The extra Mass is to facilitate the safe attendance of as many as possible.  There is no need to book a place. If the Church reaches capacity, people may listen to Mass in their cars on the radio system and receive Holy Communion outside.

The Bishop has reminded us, that the Sunday Mass obligation is still suspended. People who are nervous about returning to weekend Mass, might like to consider attending, a quieter weekday Mass as an alternative.

People are asked to co-operate with the ushers in each Church. People are also asked to respect the social distancing and to only sit in the seat assigned to you. You are asked to wear a mask and to sanitise on entering and exiting the building at the sanitising points. If you are feeling unwell, please stay at home.

It is good to be back. We especially encourage our young families to get back into the habit of coming to Mass. It will do us a power of good to be together and to worship God together as a community of Faith. Welcome back!!

Bailieborough News. May 10th 2021 . Matthew J. Cullen.

St. Annes: Returning to Mass: This week public Masses resume throughout the country and in our Parish. It is good news and many will be glad to get back and be able to pray together as a community and receive the sacrements.

There are restrictions to be considered. St. Anne’s in Bailieborough is a large Church and under the restrictions, it will be able to accommodate up to 100 family units at the weekend. It is not intended to put a booking system in place because the management system worked well last Autumn/Winter, when the Church was last open.

Killann Church will remain closed because the long-awaited internal revamp of the Church is about to begin and will take a month or so to complete. To facilitate Parishioners in the Killann and Shercock area, from Saturday 15th May,  a Vigil Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s, Shercock at 8.30pm.

Funerals: Fifty mourners permitted at a Funeral. Related events, either before or after, should not take place.

Weddings: Fifty guests permitted at a wedding. For celebrations/receptions, a maximum of six people for indoor gatherings and fifteen people for outdoor gatherings. The number allowed attend a wedding reception indoors, rises to 25 from June 7th. (This means that while 50 guests may attend a Wedding Mass, a much smaller number may only attend the reception).

For the first month that Masses return, parishioners ought to consider attending one of the daily Masses, rather than a weekend  Mass—to help ease the pressure.

More information on how the Parish will manage these arrangements, will be announced next weekend.

The Bishop has granted permission for the resumption of Baptisms, with a limited attendance confined to parents and godparents.

Mass can be heard on the radio at 107.8FM in the Bailieborough area and 92FM in Shercock.

All Masses and Parish Funerals can be viewed on the Parish webcam or can be heard by tuning in the radio to 107.8 F.M.

The Parish Office will be open on Mondays and Fridays from 10am to 4.00pm. Please feel free to contact Fr. Ultan for assistance on 087 341 8037 or 042 96 65117.

With most shops closed, now is the ideal time for community spirit to kick in while clearing out space at the same time ! If you want to get rid of those boots that are too small and won’t be used again in your house, why not bring them down to the club, Mark Gilsenan will put them in a cage here and if any child/children need a pair of boots they’re welcome to take a pair that fits ! This is a great initiative, especially since children’s feet grow so rapidly !! Contact Mark on 087 4158919 for further details.

Without this generosity we would never have been able to build, the wonderful Clubhouse we now have. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every person for your amazing generosity.

From us all at Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA Club.

It is also great to see that the underage sections of the club have started back training after being in lockdown for so long. Hopefully this is a step towards what used to be the normal way of life.
