Culture Night, Friday, September 20th: ‘Colourful Cavan and Beyond,’ by Artist Jim McParlin. An Art exhibition comprising of paintings depicting scenes from around the county and locations further afield. Venue: Bailieborough Library, Market Square, Bailieborough, Co Cavan. Time: 4pm to 5:15pm. All welcome.
Best Wishes: Best Wishes are extended to Lorraine Harris and staff on the opening of the new Post Office, in SuperValu, Bailieborough. Catherine O’Reilly—former postmistress—performed the cutting of the ribbon at the new office on Monday morning and local ‘legend’, Vincent Gunn was the first customer up to the counter!!
Please note that the old letter box at the old Post Office on Main Street is still in existence and being used until further notice.

A celebration of music, poetry, comedy and art, commencing at 9.00pm, in ‘Downstairs @ Nixy’s’, The Square Bar, Bailieborough. Guests on the night: Faraway Martin (music), Joe Byrne (poet), Hidden Stills (music), Ross Mc Carthy (comedian), Miriam Fitzgerald Juskova (visual artist) and local woman, Fidel Hogan Walsh (poet). Moybologue Historical Society: After the success of ‘Moybologue and the parishes of East Cavan; 1400 – 1800’ in October 2018, Moybologue Historical Society – Cumann Seanchais Mhaigh Bolg is delighted to welcome Monsignor Liam Kelly back to Tierworker for ‘Culture Night‘ 2019 with a talk on ‘Culture Night: The Battle Of Coolnahinch and other troubles in the 1790s,’ in St. Mary’s Hall, Tierworker on Friday 20th September at 8:30pm.
Monsignor Kelly is a native of County Leitrim and is current Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Kilmore. He was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Kilmore in 2015. He is a noted historian and has written several books, his most recent one being The Diocese of Kilmore c,1100-1800 which was published in 2017. Join us on the night to hear his insights into the troubled and tragic events at nearby Coolnahinch in November 1793.
As with all our talks and events, admission is free of charge, refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
First Holy Communion: Congratulations to Mervyn Lloyd (Junior), from the Model School who received his First Holy Communion in St. Anne’s Church on Sunday morning last. Trad Musicians Wanted: Calling all amateur traditional musicians. Bailieborough Development Association would like to encourage amateur musicians to come together to share their musical skills and have the craic. Vincent’s Shop: Some of our current volunteers said that they first volunteered with us to meet new people, make a difference in their local community and felt that it was a good way to spend their free time. We at Vincents, on Main St., Bailieborough are currently looking to add to our current set-up of volunteers, mainly to cover Saturday mornings from 10.00am to 1pm, every Saturday. Bowls: Bailieborough Community Bowls continue in the Community Centre on Wednesday evenings at 8.00pm, for the new Bowls season. New members—both male and female are most welcome.
Computers for Farmers: Help is at hand for farmers, who need training in Basic Computers, On-line Herd Registration Form Filling, Internet and email, Farm Record Keeping, Health and Safety etc. Classes are free and are commencing on Monday evenings this September in Bailieborough Business Centre at 7pm. Bailieborough Hen’s Shed: Bailieborough Hen’s Shed is a sparkly new initiative, which aims to give the women of Bailieborough, a space where they can take time for themselves, enjoy company and a chat over a cup of tea, engage in courses and community projects and most importantly, make friends and create a support network, so that we ladies can be there for each other when needed.
A small group of ladies are currently negotiating the process of setting up this group and we would welcome the input of any women who would be interested in being members of the group.
We want your suggestions and support in developing a programme of activities and get-togethers for the initial period from September 2019 up to Christmas 2019. By then we should have an established group to carry us forward into 2020 and beyond!
The Beckscourt Centre has kindly agreed to provide space for us as we take our first steps and a big ‘Thank You’ goes to Padraig McBreen and Breffni Integrated for their support so far. Now it is up to we ladies to do it for ourselves!

Harvest Mission :Between Sunday, 29th September and Wednesday, 2nd October, The Bailieborough Group of Church of Ireland Parishes will be taking part in a diocese wide harvest mission called ‘Gathered In’. All of the mission events are open to everyone and anyone who wants to come along. Here are some notable times and events:
Sunday 29th September at 3pm outside Knockbride Church, Community Tractor Service – polish up the Tractor and bring it out to pray for the harvest.
Tuesday 1st October at 11am Coffee morning in the Rectory, 7:30pm Wholeness and Healing Service in Bailieborough Church.
Wednesday 2nd October 8pm in the Bailie Hotel, Johnny Cash ‘Walking the Line’ – David Kelly sings the songs of Johnny Cash and relays the ups ad downs of Johnny’s spiritual life story.

‘Cowfest’: ‘Cowfest’ is an event being held to commerate the 5th anniversary of the rescue of fugitive cow, ‘Rambling Rose’ and her calf ‘Sunday’, by Meath River Rescue from an island on Breakey Lake. On Friday next, September 20th at 10pm, there will be live music in the Jolly Old Cross, Cormeen by Reilly and the Moonrakers, with a Jiving competition from 10pm to 11pm. There will be practise time from 9pm. No cover charge.
On Saturday, September 21st there will be a Rural Walk from Cormenn Sports Complex at 1.00pm. Refreshments afterwards. 10 entry fee per adult. At 2.00pm, there will be a Community Day at Cormeen Sports Complex with live music, art exhibition, talks, arts and crafts and games for the kids, and boat trips on Breakey Lake by Meath River Rescue. At 8.00pm, there will be drama at Cormeen Sports Complex, with the staging of ‘An Ogeous Brose’ by John McManus featuring Seamus O’Rourke and Charlie McGuiness. Tickets are priced at €12 and are available from Cormeen Sports Complex or call 086 773 2649. Doors open at 7.15pm followed by live music in the Jolly Old Cross–’till the cows come home’! Raffle on the night with a 12 month old calf or €500 as top prize.
The events are in aid of Meath River Rescue in recognition of the important and difficult work that they do. All welcome.

Blessing of the Graves: Thank you to all who attended the Blessing of the Graves in St. Anne’s Cemetery on Sunday week last. As usual there was a very large crowd present. Thank you to the Church stewards, who managed the parking and traffic very well and to the Pastoral Council who organised the ceremony and who, along with members of the Finance committee, took up the collection, which this year, thanks to your generous contributions, amounted to €4,504. Thank you also to the members of the Community Employment Scheme who had the cemetery looking so well, to the readers, the local Legion of Mary who led the Rosary and to Tracey Carroll who played beautiful instrumental pieces during the Service.
End of an Era: This Friday, September 13th sees the closure of the Post Office, on Main Street at 4.30pm. It is the ‘end of an era’ for Catherine O’Reilly and her family and staff, who have served in the Post Office for many, many years. On behalf of the community in Bailieborough and surrounding areas, we thank you for your excellent service and wish you well in your retirement.
The new Post Office—at the rear of ‘Super-Valu—will open on Monday morning, September 16th at 10.30am. We wish, Lorraine Harris, all the best in taking over this mainstay, of the local community.

Balloon Release: Annual Balloon Release to remember our loved ones who died by Suicide will take place at Lough Sillan Lake Shercock on Friday next, 13th September at 6pm. Deepest Condolences: Deepest Sympathy is extended to the family of Eugene Farrelly (Raheny) and formerly Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away on Saturday, 31st August 2019, peacefully, at home. Beloved husband of Brenda and father of Jacqueline, Miriam, Brenda, Eoghan, Nessa and Aideen, grandfather to Amy, Neal, Eamonn, Aoife, Neasa, Emma, Ben, Ella, Aida and Alex, brother to Patricia and Vera; sadly missed by his daughter and sons in law Caroline, Gerry, Edward, David and Nessa’s partner Phil, extended family and friends, Eugene was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Frank, Philip, Mary, James, Julia, Mary, John, Bridie, Maud, his twin sister Agneta, Eddie, Tim, and Kevin. Eugene’s Funeral Mass took place in the St John the Evangelist Church, Kilbarrack, Dublin 5, on Monday, September 2nd followed by burial in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton.

Arrangements for Booking Bailieborough Community Centre: Contact or call into the Parish Office during it’s public opening hours to request a booking form. The booking form will need to include insurance and child safeguarding—if applicable—details for your group. The charge for use of the Centre is €10 per hour including set-up and clean-up time. For stand-alone events this charge is payable at the time of booking. For a long term booking, an arrangement can be made with the Parish Office to pay after an agreed period of time. If paying by cheque please make it out to—Bailieborough Church No 2 A/C. The user is liable for all damages to the hall incurred during the period of use. The Bailieborough Church Area Finance Committee has the right to refuse any booking.

St. Vincent DePaul Annual Pilgrimage to Knock: The Annual St. Vincent DePaul Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Saturday next, September 14th. A bus will be leaving the Community Centre at 8.30am. Bookings with €15 bus fare can be made in Vincent’s Shop, Main St., Bailieborough by Saturday, August 31st.

Walking programme for people recovering from Cancer:
The Irish Cancer Society’s, Strides for Life walking programme will start in September. The Strides for Life is a walking programme developed for people recovering from cancer treatment. The programme is organised by Cuan, Cavan cancer support centre and will take place in the grounds of the Farnham Estate and Spa Resort, who have very kindly allowed the use of their grounds. Strides for Life, caters for all levels of ability and comprises of a weekly group walk and an individual training programme. Family members or friends are also welcome. The Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2019:
The 7th Bailieborough Poetry Festival will take place this year from 3rd to 5th October.
The Bailieborough Poetry Prize competition is now open. Closing date for entry is Friday next, 6th September 2019.
First prize of €300 for winning poem. Each poem must not exceed 50 lines, and should be typed, single-spaced. The competition is open to anybody who has reached their 18th birthday by the 6th September 2019. Up to three poems may be submitted per entry. You may submit as many entries as you wish. A fee of €5 per poem or 3 poems for €10 is payable. Payment should be made via the PayPal button. Further details may be found on www.bailieboroughpoetry.com
Welcome Fr. Ultan McGoohan and Fr. Rafal Siwek: Last weekend the Parish welcomed Fr. Ultan McGoohaan as Parish Priest and Fr. Rafal Siwek as Curate to the Parish of Killann. We are very blessed to have Fr. Ultan and Fr. Rafal working with us in this Parish and we warmly welcome them as they begin their ministry here. We pray for God’s blessing on them.
Ordination: The Bailieborough Group of Presbyterian Churches which comprises of Trinity Bailieborough, First Bailieborough (Corglass), Corraneary and Ervey are eagerly awaiting the Ordination and Installation of their new Minister. After ten years of ministry in Bailieborough, the Rev Sam Anketell retired four years ago and since then the group has remained vacant. On Saturday next, September 7th at 3pm in Corglass Church, Mr John O’Donnell a native of Clonmel will be Ordained and Installed as minister. John, his wife Sarah and their son Timothy have already taken up residence in Corglass Manse.
Farewell: Last weekend the Parish said ‘Goodbye’ to Fr. Joseph Fidelis Bature as he returns to Rome for a short time before he goes to his home diocese of Maiduguri in North Eastern Nigeria. The Community thank him for his time here with us in Bailieborough and wish him well on his return home.

Balloon Release: Annual Balloon Release to remember our loved ones who died by Suicide will take place at Lough Sillan Lake Shercock on Friday 13th September at 6pm. Songs will be sung and a few words said to remember those gone too soon. Please bring your own helium balloons. Everyone welcome.
Trad Musicians Wanted: Calling all amateur traditional musicians. Bailieborough Development Association would like to encourage amateur musicians to come together to share their musical skills and have the craic. Deepest Condolences: Deepest Sympathy is extended to sons Martin, Anthony and William, daughter Katharine, sister Peggy O’Reilly (Drumbannon), brothers, Davy, Kevin, Justin and Peter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, on the death of Tommy Gorman, Curkish, Bailieborough and formerly Crossreagh, Mullagh, Co Cavan, who passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 24th. Tommy was predeceased by his wife Anna and sons Thomas, William and David. Tommy’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Wednesday, August 28th with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
Beginners Irish: Six week Beginners Irish course starting at the Library on Tuesday, September 17th from 10.30am-12.30pm. Arrangements for Booking Bailieborough Community Centre: Contact or call into the Parish Office during it’s public opening hours to request a booking form. The booking form will need to include insurance and child safeguarding—if applicable—details for your group. The charge for use of the Centre is €10 per hour including set-up and clean-up time. For stand-alone events this charge is payable at the time of booking. For a long term booking, an arrangement can be made with the Parish Office to pay after an agreed period of time. If paying by cheque please make it out to—Bailieborough Church No 2 A/C. The user is liable for all damages to the hall incurred during the period of use. The Bailieborough Church Area Finance Committee has the right to refuse any booking.

Walking programme for people recovering from Cancer:
The Irish Cancer Society’s, Strides for Life walking programme will start in September. The Strides for Life is a walking programme developed for people recovering from cancer treatment. The programme is organised by Cuan, Cavan cancer support centre and will take place in the grounds of the Farnham Estate and Spa Resort, who have very kindly allowed the use of their grounds. Strides for Life, caters for all levels of ability and comprises of a weekly group walk and an individual training programme. Family members or friends are also welcome.
