The Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2019:

The 7th Bailieborough Poetry Festival will take place this year from 3rd to 5th October.

The Bailieborough Poetry Prize competition is now open. Closing date for entry is Friday next, 6th September 2019.

First prize of €300 for winning poem. Each poem must not exceed 50 lines, and should be typed, single-spaced. The competition is open to anybody who has reached their 18th birthday by the 6th September 2019. Up to three poems may be submitted per entry. You may submit as many entries as you wish. A fee of €5 per poem or 3 poems for €10 is payable. Payment should be made via the PayPal button. Further details may be found on www.bailieboroughpoetry.com

Welcome Fr. Ultan McGoohan and Fr. Rafal Siwek: Last weekend the Parish welcomed Fr. Ultan McGoohaan as Parish Priest and Fr. Rafal Siwek as Curate to the Parish of Killann. We are very blessed to have Fr. Ultan and Fr. Rafal working with us in this Parish and we warmly welcome them as they begin their ministry here. We pray for God’s blessing on them.

Ordination: The Bailieborough Group of Presbyterian Churches which comprises of Trinity Bailieborough, First Bailieborough (Corglass), Corraneary and Ervey are eagerly awaiting the Ordination and Installation of their new Minister. After ten years of ministry in Bailieborough, the Rev Sam Anketell retired four years ago and since then the group has remained vacant. On Saturday next, September 7th at 3pm in Corglass Church, Mr John O’Donnell a native of Clonmel will be Ordained and Installed as minister. John, his wife Sarah and their son Timothy have already taken up residence in Corglass Manse.

Farewell: Last weekend the Parish said ‘Goodbye’ to Fr. Joseph Fidelis Bature as he returns to Rome for a short time before he goes to his home diocese of Maiduguri in North Eastern Nigeria. The Community thank him for his time here with us in Bailieborough and wish him well on his return home.

Bailieborough Development Association are proud to announce that Phase 1 and 2 of Bailieborough Courthouse regeneration project is complete. We are inviting interested parties who would like to use the space to give us a call for a viewing. The spaces comprise, individual pay per day Hot Desk, Meeting Space, Training Space, Rehearsal and Performance space, Studio space. Balloon Release: Annual Balloon Release to remember our loved ones who died by Suicide will take place at Lough Sillan Lake Shercock on Friday 13th September at 6pm. Songs will be sung and a few words said to remember those gone too soon. Please bring your own helium balloons. Everyone welcome. 

Trad Musicians Wanted: Calling all amateur traditional musicians. Bailieborough Development Association would like to encourage amateur musicians to come together to share their musical skills and have the craic. This is a social programme, designed to get people out of isolation and to socialise and share skills. Call 042-969-4716 for further information.

Bailieborough Walking Group: Wednesday: September 4th – Castle Lake Bailieborough:

(M) Walk 1 Hour 30 min. (E) Walk 1 Hour. Walk commences at 7.00pm at Bailieborough Business Centre, Shercock Rd., Bailieborough. This is the final walk of the season. All welcome.

Deepest Condolences:  Deepest Sympathy is extended to sons Martin, Anthony and William, daughter Katharine, sister Peggy O’Reilly (Drumbannon), brothers, Davy, Kevin, Justin and Peter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, on the death of Tommy Gorman, Curkish, Bailieborough and formerly Crossreagh, Mullagh, Co Cavan, who passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 24th. Tommy was  predeceased by his wife Anna and sons Thomas, William and David. Tommy’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Wednesday, August 28th with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Beginners Irish: Six week Beginners Irish course starting at the Library on Tuesday, September 17th from 10.30am-12.30pm. The classes are facilitated by Cavan/ Monaghan Education and Training Board and are FREE. Classes will be informal and relaxed and all interested please ring library at 042 9665779.

Arrangements for Booking Bailieborough Community Centre: Contact or call into the Parish Office during it’s public opening hours to request a booking form. The booking form will need to include insurance and child safeguarding—if applicable—details for your group. The charge for use of the Centre is €10 per hour including set-up and clean-up time. For stand-alone events this charge is payable at the time of booking. For a long term booking, an arrangement can be made with the Parish Office to pay after an agreed period of time. If paying by cheque please make it out to—Bailieborough Church No 2 A/C. The user is liable for all damages to the hall incurred during the period of use. The Bailieborough Church Area Finance Committee has the right to refuse any booking.

 

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to to wife Marie, daughter Samantha and sons Dominic and Michael, son in law Ronan, daughters in law Karen and Amanda, grandchildren, brother Gordon, sister Audrey, uncles, aunt, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends on the death of William (Willie) White, Drumrane, Drung, Co. Cavan and formerly of Drumooslim, Bailieborough and England, who passed away on  Sunday, 25th August 2019, peacefully, surrounded by his family at Cavan General Hospital

Willie’s Funeral Liturgy and Celebration of Life, took place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Drung on Tuesday, August 27th with burial afterwards in Drung Cemetery.

Walk, Jog, Run or Crawl! Run, walk, crawl or jog every Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Community Centre, Chapel Road, Bailieborough at 8pm.  It’s free!!!! And there is no catch! All newcomers welcome.  Also the Saturday morning Leisure Group Cycle is back and takes place on Saturday mornings leaving from the Community Centre, Bailieborough at 9.00AM. Please bring euros for coffee stop and all welcome.

Congratulations: Congratulations are extended to Emma Tully and Vincent O’Boyle, Mulberry Manor, who were married in St. Anne’s Church on Friday last.

Spanish Lessons with Lydia: Spanish Lessons with Lydia in Bailieborough will take place in the B.D.A. Centre, Shercock Road, (beside the playground) on Tuesday and Wednesday, ¾ September. Citizen’s Information: The service takes place every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm in the Library— providing information, advice and advocacy supports to everyone on Social welfare, employment, Pensions, Health, Tax etc.  No appointment necessary.

St. Vincent DePaul Annual Pilgrimage to Knock: The Annual St. Vincent DePaul Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Saturday, September 14th. A bus will be leaving the Community Centre at 8.30am. Bookings with €15 bus fare can be made in Vincent’s Shop, Main St., Bailieborough by Saturday, August 31st.

Bailieborough Library: The Craft Group are still going strong with many great memories and hopefully more to come! Not just a craft group, but a place to come, have a cuppa, learn new talents, make new friends and feel very welcome. Everyone is welcome every Friday morning drop in from 10am to 1pm!

Walking programme for people recovering from Cancer:

The Irish Cancer Society’s, Strides for Life walking programme will start in September. The Strides for Life is a walking programme developed for people recovering from cancer treatment. The programme is organised by Cuan, Cavan cancer support centre and will take place in the grounds of the Farnham Estate and Spa Resort, who have very kindly allowed the use of their grounds. Strides for Life, caters for all levels of ability and comprises of a weekly group walk and an individual training programme. Family members or friends are also welcome.
