Mass of Celebration in thanksgiving for the Ministry of Fr. Michael Router: A Special Mass will be held in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Friday evening next, June 21st at 7.00pm, to congratulate Fr. Michael on his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Armagh and to celebrate his outstanding, selfless ministry in service of our Parish. Light refreshments will follow in St. Annes Community Centre, Chapel Road. All parishioners, from each of the Church areas in the Parish are most welcome to attend and to give Fr. Michael the send-off, that he thoroughly deserves.  

Lego Brickx Open/Fun Day – The Model School: The Model School are hosting a Lego Brickx and Family fun day on Saturday next, June 22nd in the school from 11am – 3pm. Please phone Kathy on 0861700215 to book a place for your child/children. Children are €12. It promises to be a great day with lots of Lego activities and outdoor games.  Parents, past pupils and the whole community, are welcome to a have a tour of the school and enjoy a cup of tea on the day. Everyone very welcome.

Preparations for the Mass of Celebration of Fr. Michael Router: Preparations for this very special occasion are well and truly underway and we thank all those involved for their great energy, enthusiasm and commitment.

A Rehearsal will take place in St. Annes Church on Thursday, June 20th at 6.30pm. All those who are involved in bringing up symbols and offertory gifts are requested to attend. We will be erecting a marquee at the side of the Community Centre of Friday, June 21st at 4.00pm. Anyone able to assist with this is very welcome to help out!! Thank you all so much.

Stewards: All Church stewards are asked to meet at 6.15pm on Friday, June 21st at the Church.

Information Meeting: The Co. CavanChildcare Committee will host a FREE Information Session on the new National Childcare Scheme at the Library on Thursday, June 27th at 7.30pm. This may be of benefit to all families who are working with children aged 24months to 15years who are attending any Tusla Registered childcare service.

Episcopal Ordination: Fr. Michael Router’s Episcopal Ordination will take place on Sunday, July 21st at 3.00pm, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh and will be available to watch on https://www.churchservices.tv/armaghcathedral

Over 130 people from the three Church Areas in the Parish have been invited to represent the Parish, officially. They include the members of the Parish Pastoral Council, the Finance Committee, office and Church staff, school management, chairs of the Boards of Management, ministry co-ordinators, Choir Leaders, Baptism Teams and political representatives. They will join representatives from each of the 61 Parishes and 22 Pastoral Areas in the Armagh Archdiocese, representatives from each of the Parishes and schools that Fr. Michael worked in previously, the clergy from Kilmore and Armagh, representatives from various nationwide Catholic Groups and representatives from each of the other main Christian Churches. There will be some space available in the Cathedral for others, who might like to attend.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to mother Cecelia, brothers Damien, John and Raymond, sister Deborah, sister-in-laws Mairead, Denise and Betty, brother-in-law Cathal, aunts and uncle, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends on the death of Gabriel Kelly, Toronto, Canada and late of Drumacarrow, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away on Thursday, June 6th. Gabriel was predeceased by his loving father Sean. Gabriel’s Cremation and interment of ashes took place in Toronto, Canada. A Mass of remembrance took place in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieboro on Tuesday last, the 11th of June.

Bailieborough Tidy Towns: Bailieborough Tidy Towns appeals to all business, property and home owners in the Town area to give their property a makeover. Washing walls, footpath’s and painting would be appreciated.
 General clean up on Tuesday evenings, meet at the Library at 7pm.  More help needed—its only for an hour. All welcome.  Come along for an hour and help keep Bailieborough litter free.

Bailieborough MidSummer Fest: Bailieborough MidSummer Festival will be taken place on Friday the 19th of July until Sunday 21st of July.

The Festival Committee are delighted to announce that Declan Nerney and his Band will be taking the stage on Main St. on Sunday afternoon, July 21st with support provided by John McNicholl and his Band.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 17th June 2019

Senior; Another competitive game v Mattock in the Shield semi-final on Thursday last but not enough on the night to progress. Six very good rounds in this competition was great for our lad’s development. Attention now shifts to the Cavan Senior Championship.

Under 17; We have entered into the new Monaghan Under 17 league which will be up and running by the end of June. Fixtures next week.

Under 15; Preparation under way for the Tain Óg U15 league semi-final v Castleblayney next week. A challenge game v Kells on Monday night.

Feile Skills; Congratulations to our own Daire Leddy on winning the Cavan Feile skills competition in Breffni on Monday. He will now represent Cavan hurling at the National Feile skills competition in Abbotstown at the end of the month.

These lads are now back in training preparing for the Cavan championship. Training on Monday at 6.30 in Killann.

Under 11; A very productive trip to Latton on Saturday last playing the hosts and Castleblayney in two very entertaining matches in bright sunshine for a change. Well done to all.

Under 7/9; Unfortunately, the weather scuppered the training on Friday last. We train again this Friday.

Episcopal Ordination: Fr. Michael Router’s Episcopal Ordination will take place on Sunday, July 21st at 3.00pm, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh and will be available to watch on https://www.churchservices.tv/armaghcathedral

Armagh Archdiocesan Staff are organising the ticketing arrangements for the event and have allotted 80 tickets to Killann Parish. Fr. Michael has submitted a list to them which totals 129 people, representing the three Church Areas: The Pastoral Council, The Finance Committees, office and Church Staff, the School’s, chairs of the Board of Management, ministry co-ordinators, Choir Leaders, political representatives, etc… Hopefully they will find the extra tickets for those on the list. Anyone else who would like to attend, is welcome to travel on the day, as there should be plenty of space in the Cathedral.

Along with Fr. Michael’s Family, 240 Priests have been invited, mainly from the Dioceses of Kilmore and Armagh, along with the Bishops, representatives from each of the 61 Parishes and 22 Pastoral Areas in the Armagh Archdiocese, representatives from each of the Parishes and Schools, Fr. East Knockbride N.S.: 5K/10K FUN-RUN/WALK:

East Knockbride N.S. Parents Association are holding their Annual 5k and 10k Fun-Run/Walk on Sunday next, 16th June at 12.30pm.  Registration from 11.45pm in the School, Walk/Run commencing at 12.30pm.  Adults €10, Children €5, family rates available.  This year we are having a “Pyjamas” theme (optional). Doreen’s Funeral Service took place in Trinity Presbyterian Church, Bailieborough on Saturday, June 8th and was followed by interment of her ashes in the family grave at Corglass Presbyterian Church.

The Diocesan and Parish Pilgrimage to Knock: This year’s Parish Pilgrimage will be to Knock and will take place on Sunday next, June 16th—the same day as the Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage. All seats on the bus are now taken and it will leave St. Anne’s Church Carpark in Bailieborough at 9.00am.

Bag pack; Very kind and appreciative thanks to all who came out and supported our bag pack recently. Great to see so many parents “putting their shoulders to the wheel” to help the club. Thanks also to Tesco Bailieborough for their continued support for local hurling and to their customers who were most generous.

Exam time!;

Best wishes to all the ECG crew who sit exams at this time.

Senior; The lads rounded off the regular league season with a win v Latton on Thursday last. They now contest the Shield semi-final v Mattock this coming Thursday. Games bringing these lads on.

Under 17; We have entered into the new Monaghan Under 17 league which will be up and running by the end of June.

Under 15; The lads made it a clean sweep in the Tain league by winning their final group game v Carrick on Monday last. Winning all their games now sets them up nicely for the semi-final.

Under 11; A very good workout by these boys on Friday with two teams playing North Meath at the Vale. Despite giving some serious size advantage to the opposition these lads gave a very good account of themselves. They now head to Latton on Saturday next to play the hosts and Cootehill.

Under 7; These lads had great fun when North Meath came to visit on Friday at the Vale. Again some serious skill as well as some incredible chats during the game. I suppose it’s all about making new friends as well as the hurling!! Well done to all.

Special thanks to all our parents who helped with Fridays games at the Vale especially Una, Martin and Declan. Great to see 60+ ECG boys hurling away.

Sing Song/Trad Night: Looking forward to seeing you all for the big sing song/trad night coming up on Friday 14th June at 10PM in The Tank Pub, Denn. Come along and give us a song, play a tune or tell us a story. Raffle on the night also for Saint Christopher’s Hospice Cavan.  Tickets €2 each or 3 for €5. First prize is €200; second prize is a beautiful Hamper plus loads of other prizes on the night. A night not to be missed!!

Parish Arrangement for this Summer: From Tuesday, June 11th, Fr. Martin Gilcreest C.C. will be administrator of the Parish until a new Parish Priest takes up residence in late August. Fr. Joseph Bature will be arriving from Rome on Wednesday, June 26th to help Fr. Martin during the summer months and he will be based in the Parish Centre, Bailieborough. Fr. Joseph will say the weekday Masses in Bailieborough, officiate at Baptisms and will alternate between all the Churches in the Parish at weekends. Fr. Martin will look after any Funerals that may occur.

As Fr. Joseph does not drive, he will have to be collected from the Parish Centre in order to respond to emergency calls. If any parishioner is available to do so, it would be greatly appreciated, if they offered to drive him from Bailieborough to Killann or Shercock on a few occasions over the summer.

Fr. Michael Router’s Episcopal Ordination will take place on Sunday, July 21st at 3.00pm, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh and will be available to watch on https://www.churchservices.tv/armaghcathedral

Mass of Celebration in thanksgiving for the Ministry of Fr. Michael Router: A Special Mass will be held in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Friday evening, June 21st at 7.00pm, to congratulate Fr. Local Elections: Congratulations to Sarah O’Reilly and Paddy McDonald who were elected to Cavan County Council following the local elections on Friday last. Sarah topped the poll and was the first person to be elected in the Bailieborough/Cootehill area, while Paddy had to wait until the final count before securing his seat. In both Councillors, Bailieborough should have a strong voice on the Council for the next five years.

Also, well done to the election candidates of all parties who had removed most of their election posters by late Sunday evening.

Charity Walk/Run in Memory of Ann Clerkin, Curkish: A Charity Walk/Run in memory of Ann Clerkin, Curkish will take place on Saturday next, May 25th commencing at 11am from the B.D.A. Offices, Shercock Rd, Bailieborough. Funds raised will be donated to the Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Fund, Ataxia Foundation, Ireland and the Parkinsons Association of Ireland. Felim’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Castlerahan, on Saturday, May 4th followed by burial in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Bailieborough.

Bailieborough Community School Graduation: Well done to the Leaving Cert students in Bailieborough Community School who graduated on Wednesday last during a beautiful service and ceremony in the school assembly area. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming exams and their future lives.

Break-in at Parochial House: In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Gardaí in Bailieborough responded to an alarm activation at the Parochial House in Bailieborough. On arrival it became apparent a break – in had occurred. A follow up search of the grounds was conducted which resulted in the arrest of a man. He has been charged in connection with the incident and appeared at a special sitting of Monaghan District Court on Sunday evening.

St. Vincent DePaul ‘Fashion Show’: The Bailieborough branch of the St Vincent’s de Paul are hosting a ‘Fashion Show’ on Thursday 29th, of November at 7.30pm in the Hotel Bailie. Doors will open at 7.15pm and we will be modelling a vast array of the clothes, that are for sale in the shop on Main St.  Tickets for the event are priced at €10 for a fantastic, fun filled evening ending with a disco after the Fashion Show until 12.30am. East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 19th November 2018:

Under 7/9/11; All back in full swing now. Thursday in Kingscourt and Friday two groups in Bailieborough. Great to see lots of new men joining our ranks this season which is our tenth indoor season hurling. Jerseys/training tops from most of the local GAA clubs on show, Bailieborough Shamrocks, Kingscourt Stars, Killinkere, Knockbride, Shercock, Cuchulainns (Mullagh) all setting aside their football rivalry to give hurling a shot in the arm. All are very welcome. Indoors will run through all the way to early June 2019 so plenty of time to catch the bug! Equipment supplied to those who don’t have any yet while learning with us. No Kingscourt group training this coming Thursday as the local trade fair have the hall for this week. See you next week.

Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018:

The Bailieborough Poetry Festival officially opens on Thursday 4th of October in Bailieborough Library at 7pm. This will include the official opening of the Art Exhibition by Ruth McDonnell in the Library Arts space which runs in conjunction with the Festival. Members of LitLab writing group have been collaborating with the artist and will read some poems inspired by her artworks.

Poets definitely taking part are Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Enda Wyley and Brendan McCann.

Enda Wyley will be reading and facilitating a workshop at Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018.Watch out for full programme soon.

 

Bailieborough Mental Health Association:

On Thursday the 6th  of September, the Bailieborough Mental Health Association had their annual AGM in the Bailie Hotel and after many long years Winston Turner decided to retire as the Chairperson of the Bailieborough Mental Health Association, This was a very sad day for the association as Winston had served so well and done a fantastic job as the Chairperson but it is has given us the ability to bring the Association into a new era as, there was elected a great and energetic new Chairperson Colm Colgan, Vice-Chairperson Séan McKiernan, the current Treasurer stays on Ann Hanley, Audrey Rogers remains as secretary being assisted by Johnny Kerins who also be in charge of our social media accounts, we look forward to keeping all of you up to date on what events we have coming up.

 

‘Hardtimes Chorus’:

‘Hardtimes Chorus’ are delighted to announce of their upcoming concert, ‘A Million Dreams’ in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre North East. It will be held in St Annes Church on Friday evening, 28th September 2018 at 8.30pm. The Down Syndrome Centre North East has been set up by a group of parents to provide essential services, information and support to people with Down Syndrome and their families living in the North East. They are both amazing charities and every cent raised will go towards supporting families affected by the death of a baby during or after pregnancy. Registration for the event will open at 11am at Bailieborough Community Centre and the event will start at 12pm.
Registration prices are; €5—5km, €10—10km and €15 for Families.
Everyone who registers will be entered into a raffle on the day.

A huge thanks to Paul Cooney Junior for raising €1500 by having his head shaved in Nixy’s Square Bar on All Ireland Sunday. This money along with the Quiz and Sponsorship that Brendan Shevlin organised brings the total to €2700. All this money is going to Haven Charity Haiti. Brendan is travelling to Haiti on 15th September to build Chicken Houses as part of this charity. A huge thanks to all who sponsored and gave money along the way to help Brendan raise funds for this great cause.

Water Hydrant:

Work is ongoing on replacing the water hydrant on Adelaide Row in Bailieborough which was damaged earlier this summer. The hydrant should be back in place and working before the weekend. Work is also continuing on the footpaths on the corner of Church Street and should be completed soon.

Blessing of the Graves:

Thank you to all who attended the Blessing of the Graves in St. Anne’s Cemetery on Sunday, September 2nd. As usual there was a very large crowd in attendance. Thank you to the Church stewards who managed the parking and traffic very well and to the Pastoral Council who organised the ceremony and who, along with members of the Finance Committee, took up the collection, which this year thanks to your generous contributions amounted to €3921.46. Thank you also to the members of the Community Employment Scheme who had the cemetery looking so well, to the readers, the local Legion of Mary who led the Rosary, to Tommy McCloskey who played a beautiful instrumental piece during the service and to Fr. Martin Gilcreest for his assistance.

The Noel McDermott Perpetual Plaque and The Sean McQuillan Memorial Cup will be presented on the day to ‘the best turned out’ Ponies. ‘Strides for Life’:

Strides for Life, a 16-week walking programme for people recovering from cancer treatment will begin in Cavan in September. Organised by the Cuan cancer social and support centre, the course is free and is suitable for all levels of ability. Strides for Life is recommended by the Irish Cancer Society and is designed to improve the level of fitness and quality of life of those recovering from cancer treatment. Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018: Bailieborough Poetry Competition:

The Festival will take place from 4th to 7th October 2018. The Bailieborough Poetry Prize 2018 is now open for entries. The Poetry Prize 2018 will be an open competition with a first prize of €300 for the winning poet. The judge this year is Noel Monahan and the closing date for the submission of entries is Monday next, September 10th, 2018. Full competition rules are available on the Bailieborough Poetry website.

The Bailieborough Poetry Festival officially opens on Thursday 4th of October in Bailieborough Library at 7pm. This will include the official opening of the Art Exhibition by Ruth McDonnell in the Library Arts space which runs in conjunction with the Festival. Members of LitLab writing group have been collaborating with the artist and will read some poems inspired by her artworks.

Poets definitely taking part are Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Enda Wyley and Brendan McCann.

Enda Wyley will be reading and facilitating a workshop at Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018.Watch out for full programme soon.

 

‘Hardtimes Chorus’:

‘Hardtimes Chorus’ are delighted to announce of their upcoming concert, ‘A Million Dreams’ in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre North East. It will be held in St Annes Church on Friday evening, 28th September 2018 at 8.30pm. The Down Syndrome Centre North East has been set up by a group of parents to provide essential services, information and support to people with Down Syndrome and their families living in the North East. Well done again to Leanne Kiernan who scored twice for the Republic of Ireland Senior Ladies side in their 4-0 win over Northern Ireland on Friday evening last in Tallaght Stadium, in their FIFA 2019 World Cup qualifier.  Leanne also got the ‘Three’ Player of the Match award for her outstanding performance.

No training this week, all back to school! Last outdoor hurling next week. U7/9 match in Carrick Sunday morning at 10am tbc and U11 blitz on 3G Breffni Park Monday 10th at 7pm. We then prepare to move indoors.

Blessing of the Graves:

The Annual Blessing of the Graves will take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery on Sunday next, September 2nd at 12 noon. Each family is asked to bring along a small container of water, which will be blessed during the service. This water will be sprinkled by a family member on the grave, before the recitation of the Rosary.

All Church stewards are asked to assist with parking and report to the car park at the cemetery by 10.45am. Those attending the ceremony are kindly requested to follow the instructions of the stewards and to co-operate with them at all times. Members of the Parish Pastoral Council will take up a collection for the upkeep of the Cemetery at various different locations before and after the Ceremony.

Bailieborough Mental Health Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, September 6th at 8.30 pm, in the Bailie Hotel. New members welcome.

Congratulations and well done to the Players, management team and supporters of the Bailieborough Shamrocks Ladies Team who played Gowna in the Intermediate Championship Semi-Final in Terry Coyle Park on Sunday evening last. The Bailieborough girls won a great game by 4-05 to Gowna’s 2-07 and in doing so, created history, by qualifying for the Intermediate Championship Final for the first time. All roads will lead to Kilnaleck on Saturday afternoon next, when the girls will contest the Intermediate Championship Final against Arva at 4.00pm. All in the community wish the girls, the best of luck in the Final!

Annual Pony Drivers and Friends, Memorial Drive 2018:

Preparations are well underway for this year’s Memorial/Charity Drive. The Drive will be taking place in Bailieborough at The Hideout on Sunday, the 23rd September, starting at 2pm. This year we are raising money for Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care. On the day there will be refreshments, raffle, auction and music. The Noel McDermott Perpetual Plaque and The Sean McQuillan Memorial Cup will be presented on the day to ‘the best turned out’ Ponies. We look forward to seeing everyone there to support a very worthy cause.

‘Strides for Life’:

Strides for Life, a 16-week walking programme for people recovering from cancer treatment will begin in Cavan in September. Organised by the Cuan cancer social and support centre, the course is free and is suitable for all levels of ability. Strides for Life is recommended by the Irish Cancer Society and is designed to improve the level of fitness and quality of life of those recovering from cancer treatment. The Bailieborough Heritage Committee are holding an ‘Industrial Exhibition’ in Murtagh’s Yard, Main Street, on Saturday next, August 18th from 12 noon to 9.00pm and also on Sunday next, August 19th from 11.00am to 5.00pm. This exhibition will show case Machinery, Garden Furniture, Tools and many items of Historical interest from Bailieborough’s industrial past. Heritage Week 2018:

’ My Seven Year Stitch’ Showcases Sally-Ann Duffy’s textile art created during an extraordinary and emotional seven-year period of her life. The Irish Northern Drag Hunt Association are delighted to host the All Ireland Heats on Saturday the 25th August, starting at 1 pm, at the farm of Patrick Shalvey, Maudabawn. 3-day Camp in Kingscourt Stars GAA grounds. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 21/22/23rd August from 10-1.30pm. For boys and girls aged 6-12 (primary school ages). €30 per child. All are very welcome. A great way to get introduced to hurling before joining our club if you haven’t played hurling before. Lots of great hurling activity for all to enjoy. Registration from 9.15 on the first day.

 

Under 7/9/11; Great trip to Carlanstown on Tuesday last in bright sunshine to play new Meath hurling club North Meath Gaels. We had 2 under 9 sides and one large squad of U11s. Great hurling on show. Training on Monday in Killann at 6.45.

Bailieborough Heritage Committee:

The Bailieborough Heritage Committee are holding an ‘Industrial Exhibition’ in Murtagh’s Yard, Main Street, on Saturday next, August 18th from 12 noon to 9.00pm and also on Sunday next, August 19th from 11.00am to 5.00pm. This exhibition will show case Machinery, Garden Furniture, Tools and many items of Historical interest from Bailieborough’s industrial past. If you have any item/s or artefacts that you would like displayed, please contact either, Pat Fitzpatrick at 086 063 5856 or Leslie McKeague at 086 2588 488, who will make arrangements for collection and return of items. The Exhibition event is free of charge and all are most welcome.

 

Heritage Week 2018:

’ My Seven Year Stitch’ Showcases Sally-Ann Duffy’s textile art created during an extraordinary and emotional seven-year period of her life. She believes that the immersion in creative projects through that time has supported her mental health and has been both therapeutic and healing. The art work will be displayed in the beautiful Bailieborough Library arts space until the end of August.

 

Moybologue Historical Society – Cumann Seanchais Mhaigh Bolg is proud to present details for our Heritage Week 2018 event ‘Moybologue: Stories from the Stones’ on Sunday next, 19th August at 3pm in St. Mary’s Hall, Tierworker, Kells, Co. Meath.

This year our event coincides with the annual Blessings of the Graves in the parish of Tierworker and Moybologue and we hope to take this opportunity to #ShareAStory and #MakeAConnection with people from near and far who are in the parish on the day for Cemetery Sunday.

Our event is completely free-of-charge, there is plenty of parking and there will be plenty of refreshments served.

From Shercock travel towards Cootehill, at 3.8kilometeres turn right for Ballybay, a further 2km turn left and continue for a further 2.5kilometeres to the school on the right.

Wednesday, August 22nd – Skeagh/ Knockbride East                                                                 (M) – 1.5hr approx. Leaving Bailieborough Library at 7.00pm. Meet at Skeaghville Chalets at 7.15pm.  From Bailieborough take Cavan road for 3 km, turn right for Cootehill Road R191, at 2km take a right at sign for Skeaghville, continue straight on this road for approx 2km. Brendan was pre-deceased by his sister Sr. Helen. Brendan’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Brigid’s Church, Knockbride East on Saturday, August 4th with burial afterwards in St. Brigid’s Cemetery.

Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.:

Our under 13’s are getting ready for the coming season, starting September, and training is on Thursday evenings from 7 – 8pm. New players welcome.

Senior pre-season training is on Sunday mornings at 12.00. All players interested in playing in the first short season (August to November) before calendar soccer comes into effect in 2019 are welcome.

Tenny was predeceased by his sister Maura. Tenny’s Funeral Mass took place in St Michael’s Church, Clifferna on Sunday, August 5th with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Fundraising Table Quiz:

Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA Club’s Brendan Shevlin—who works for Manor Farm, is heading to Haiti to help with the Haven Chicken Project. Brendan is part of a group from Manor Farm who are going over to build Chicken Farms in Haiti. As part of his efforts Brendan also needs to Fundraise and as part of these Fundraising Efforts, he is having a Table Quiz in Nixy’s, The Square Bar at 10pm on Friday next 17th, August 2018. All are invited to turn out and support Brendan in his Fundraising Efforts. What a wonderful thing Brendan is doing. All welcome.

 

Blessing of the Graves:

The Annual Blessing of the Graves will take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery on Sunday, September 2nd at 12 noon. Now would be the ideal time to look after the grave or a plot of a loved one in preparation for Cemetery Sunday.

Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018: Bailieborough Poetry Competition:  The Festival will take place from 4th to 7th October 2018. The Bailieborough Poetry Prize 2018 is now open for entries. The judge this year is Noel Monahan and the closing date for the submission of entries is Monday, September 10th, 2018. Full competition rules are available on the Bailieborough Poetry website.

Full details soon but there will be poetry readings, open mics, poetry workshops, the Annual Poetry Competition and an associated Art Exhibition.

Poets definitely taking part are Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Enda Wyley and Brendan McCann.

Enda Wyley will be reading and facilitating a workshop at Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018.Watch out for full programme soon.

All- Ireland Drag Hunt Heats:

The Irish Northern Drag Hunt Association are delighted to host the All Ireland Heats on Saturday the 25th August, starting at 1 pm, at the farm of Patrick Shalvey, Maudabawn. Spectators of all ages very welcome. Presentations, entertainment and refreshments will take place in Connolly’s Pub, Cootehill at 9pm. Everybody very welcome.

 

 

  

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 13th August 2018

 

Hurling Camogie Camp 2018.

3-day Camp in Kingscourt Stars GAA grounds. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 21/22/23rd August from 10-1.30pm. For boys and girls aged 6-12 (primary school ages). €30 per child. All are very welcome. A great way to get introduced to hurling before joining our club if you haven’t played hurling before. Lots of great hurling activity for all to enjoy. Registration from 9.15 on the first day.

 

Under 7/9/11; Great trip to Carlanstown on Tuesday last in bright sunshine to play new Meath hurling club North Meath Gaels. We had 2 under 9 sides and one large squad of U11s. Great hurling on show. Training on Monday in Killann at 6.45.

Under 15; A great win after a long trip to Lisbellaw to take on the hosts on Monday last. We received a walkover in the latest round v Monaghan Harps. Two more regular rounds, v Carrick this Thursday, and Blayney Monday 20th, both in Kingscourt, before the knockout stages.
