Terrific weekend of Music, Dance, Comedy and Fun at the now Annual Variety Concert. Playing to full houses on both nights, the event gets better and better every year. Mass of Consolation: A Mass of Consolation will be celebrated in St. Annes Church on Saturday evening next, November 23^rd at 7.00pm, to remember parishioners who died and were buried in the Parish Cemetery since the 1^st of November 2018. All are welcome to attend.

Santa’a Coming to Town: Santa will be back in Bailieborough on Saturday, the 30^th  of November at 5pm sharp, at the Market Square. After a great turn out last year, Santa has brought more helpers and promises you won’t be waiting as long In the cold. As in previous years, the ‘Tractor Parade of Lights’ will be bringing him to town. The town ‘Christmas Lights’ will also be switched on at this event. Everyone welcome.

Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife,  Elena, daughters Amelia and Erin, sister Miriam, brothers-in-law Michael, Lilana, Ettore, Gianluca, Maurizia, Marta, Ivano, Simona and Bruno, nephews, nieces and extended family and friends on the death of Tom Whelehan, 45 Twin Oaks, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away, peacefully, in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan on Friday, November 8^th. Tom’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough on Monday, November 11^th with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Bowls: Bailieborough Community Bowls continue in the Community Centre on Wednesday evenings at 8.00pm. New members—both male and female are most welcome.

Dementia Information Morning: The Bailieborough Hens Shed are delighted to host Tina from Bluebird Care who will facilitate a morning of information and discussion about dementia on this Thursday morning, November 21^st, from 10.00am to 12 noon, in Bailieborough Library. This event is open to everyone in the community, and we look forward to meeting you on the morning. Tea and coffee will be available.

Bailieborough Social Day Centre: The next get-together of the Bailieborough Social Day Centre will take place on Wednesday, November 27^th in the Community Centre from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, for more music, chat, etc… New members are always most welcome.

Vincent’s Shop, Bailieborough: We are urgently seeking donations of Gents and Ladies clothing, especially Winter Coats, also paper and plastic bags that we can use in Vincent’s Shop. Thank You for all your kind donations of clothes, toys, bric-a-brac and for generously buying from the shop. All money raised is used for local deserving causes.

Family Time at your Library: ‘Family Time at Your Library’ is a nationwide celebration in Libraries in December. We’re inviting families to join us on Saturday, 7^th  December for fun events for all ages. Amongst the activities will be, Puppet Shows, Art Workshops, Christmas Storytime and Treats!!  All welcome and it is free!! More details coming soon! Watch this space!

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to husband, Richard, children, Carmel, Geraldine, Teresa, Richard, Michael and Angela, and their partners,  on the death of Margaret Mary (Peggy) Barber (nee O’Sullivan) Killagriff, Tierworker, Kells, Co. Meath. (Originally from Kildimo, Co. Limerick) who passed away peacefully at home in Nottingham, England on Monday, 21^st October 2019. Sympathy is also extended to Peggy’s ten grandchildren, her sisters and brother, Phil, Liz and Michael, her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Peggy’s Funeral Mass took place in St Patrick’s Church, Tierworker on Wednesday, 30^th  October, with burial afterwards in Moynalty Cemetery.

The Open Door Sessions: That’s all folks! After three fun, talented-filled years ‘The Open Door Sessions’ has come to an end.

We are uniting to give a voice to those who are most affected by these harsh decisions, and would love to hear from you.

The HSE embargo is having a detrimental effect on people in the community. We believe it is gone to far. We, as people in need of support and those who provide care for them, feel we need to stand united and give a voice to those who are suffering and in need of basic support.

We are a newly formed advocacy group and wish to hear from you so that together we can advocate for the needs of all who need care in the community.

Walking Football Programme: Cavan Sports Partnership, as part of their active adult(50+) programme,  have organised a Walking Football programme in Shercock, starting Thursday, 14^th November from 8pm-9pm in Shercock Hall.The programmes will run for 5 weeks and is being delivered in conjunction with the FAI. Walking football is a slower version of football, that is fun, social and with plenty of exercise in an inclusive environment. Refreshments will be provided after each weeks session

Halloween ‘Fright Night’ is back!!: Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events are happy to announce that, the ‘Halloween Fright Night’ is back on this year. Following the terrific success of last year’s event, this year’s one takes place on Friday evening next, October 25^th at the Chapel Carpark, at the Town Lake. Registration is from 6.00pm and the night promises to be one filled with Scary Walks, Music, Tea, Coffee and Treats. The best dressed family will get a free picture and visit to Santa’s Grotto in Bailieborough when turning on the Christmas Lights. For more information, please contact Tony at 086 3993 430.

Bailieborough Drama Group: Bailieborough Drama Group have been busy rehearsing their new one act play ” The Shape” by Tara Lovett for the last few months, in prepartion for the One Act Festival Circuit. Directed by Conor Sheridan, assistant director Liz O’Hanlon, cast Liam Daly, Fiona Clarke, Fergal Donnelly and Stage Manager, Mary Mc Donagh. They are opening the festival in Naas on Friday next, October 25th. Local audiences can catch them in Ramor Theatre, Virginia on Thursday, October 31st, where they will be joined on the night by Cornmill Theatre group with “The Aftermath” by Alice Lynch, directed by Ronan Ward. Tickets are available from the Ramor Theatre and we all wish them, the best of luck on the ‘Circuit’.

October—Month of The Rosary: The Rosary will be said at the Grotto on the Virginia Road for the month of October at 7.30pm, every evening except Saturdays. All are very welcome to come along and pray for their many intentions.

Christianity Explored Course: A ‘Christianity Explored’ course will take place from

Cavan and formerly Ballinamona, Woodenbridge, Co. Wicklow, who passed away suddenly at her residence on Monday, October 7^th, 2019. Sonia was predeceased by her husband John. Sonia’s Funeral Service took place in Bailieborough Parish Church on Thursday, October 10^th followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

‘Trick or Treat’ for Temple Street: ‘Trick or Treat’ for Temple St. is back this year and we will be holding our fundraiser in Tesco, Bailieborough on Friday the 25th and Saturday, 26th of October, from 10am -5pm on both days.  On Friday, we will be holding a Monster Cake Sale in store, where we will be having lots of fun with fancy dress, face painting and music and colouring for the kids and adults if they want to join in .. If anyone would would like to bake for the Cake Sale, all donations would be very gratefully recieved in store on the Thursday or Friday.

 On SatUrday, we will be hold a ‘Monster Raffle’ with some amazing prizes!! So dont miss out on all the fun and also don’t forget, all donations go to Temple St Children’s Hospital.  We are so close to making it to our 5 million euro target and with your help we can definitely deliver. So let’s do it for the kids !!

Walk, Jog, Run or Crawl! Run, walk, crawl or jog every Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Community Centre, Chapel Road, Bailieborough at 8pm.  It’s free!!!! And there is no catch! All newcomers welcome.  Also the Saturday morning Leisure Group Cycle is back and takes place on Saturday mornings leaving from the Community Centre, Bailieborough at 9.00AM. Hardtimes Chorus Choir and The Omagh Peace Choir: As part of the Building Positive Relations initiative sponsored by PEACE IV and SEUPB, ‘Hard Times Chorus’ and The Omagh Peace Choir are presenting a choral collaboration on Saturday next October 12^th  at 4.00pm in St Annes Church and Sunday, October 13^th  in Omagh Library. This free event is open to all to attend and is being facilitated by none other than Daryl Simpson of the Celtic Tenors. Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2019: The 7th Bailieborough Poetry Festival took place last weekend. Great readings from featured poets, Moya Cannon, Kate Ennals and Pat Deeley, workshops by Moya and Pat, the launch of the LitLab anthology—entitled ‘Where You may Find Yourself’– and their collaboration with artist Jim McPartlin. It was busy!! The results of the Bailieborough Poetry Festival Competition 2019. The judge was Cavan Writer-in-Residence, Anthony J Quinn.

Runners Up: Giles Newington – ‘Dynamic Me’.
John D Kelly – ‘The Missing Piece’.

We are most grateful to Peter Murtagh who generously provided a wonderful venue for our poetry readings. Bailieborough Hen’s Shed: Bailieborough Hen’s Shed—weekely get-together in Bailieborough Library every Thursday morning during October, from 10.00am to 12 noon, commencing on this Thursday morning, October 10^th and thereafter on Thursday, 17^th, 24^th  and 31^st.  Ladies living in and around Bailieborough are invited to join us for a social morning. St. Anne’s National School ‘Fun Run’: St. Anne’s N.S. are organising a ‘Fun Run’ on Sunday, October 20^th starting at St. Anne’s National School. Registration will take place from 11.00am on the day.  Entry fee is €5 or a donation to take part. Individuals and families are invited to walk or run the 1K, 3K, 5K or 10K routes. Prizes and refreshments also on the day. This event promises to be a colourful occasion, to which the whole school is looking forward to. We would love you to join us for this fun event.

Bailieborough Heritage Society: Thank You: We had a fantastic turnout last Friday  night for the launch of ‘Industrious Bailieborough’. We had wonderful music supplied by harpist Mary Argue and beautiful food from Foxes. Thank you Padraic McIntyre for launching the book. The Courthouse is a fantastic venue, Bailieborough Development Association have to be commended on the fine restoration under the helm of Lee McDonnell, a truly wonder person. Thank-you to all who came and photographers Suella Holland and Kevin Gorman who took photos. We also wish to thank the Special EU Programmes Body Peace IV Project for their financial support, Jane Crudden, Peace Programme Manager, Siobhan and Dennis and the Community and Enterprise team, for their guidance and management, not forgetting our own team. ‘Colourful Cavan and Beyond,’ by Artist Jim McParlin. An Art exhibition comprising of paintings depicting scenes from around the county and locations further afield. The exhibition will be on view in the Library until Friday, October 18th. All are welcome during Library opening hours.

Presentation: On Tuesday evening last, October 1^st, The Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival committee presented cheques to the value of €500 to members of the Bailieborough Cancer Fund and The Killann Cancer Fund in the B.D.A. Centre, Shercock Rd. The money was the proceeds of the Mid-Summer Festival’s ‘Honda 50 and Vintage Tractor/Car Run’. Also on the night, the Mid-Summer Festival Committee received a cheque for €437.50 from Tesco, Bailieborough as part of Tesco’s ‘Blue Tokens’ promotion.

The course takes just one hour – 60 minutes to learn to save a life!
The instructor will provide all the material and will run 3 CPR courses with 30 people per course..

‘Walk for Willow’: The ‘Walk for Willow’ was held at the end of August and proved to be a very successful event. On Saturday night last, in the Bailie Hotel, the grand total of €10,279.50  was revealed and it is now on it’s way to Féileacáin ( Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland ). Thank you to each and every one of you who has donated in Willow’s Memory and also a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who helped organise the event, participated in it or helped out in any way.

Harvest Mission :Between Sunday next, 29^th September and Wednesday, 2^nd October, The Bailieborough Group of Church of Ireland Parishes will be taking part in a diocese wide harvest mission called ‘Gathered In’.  All of the mission events are open to everyone and anyone who wants to come along. Here are some notable times and events:

Sunday 29th September at 3pm outside Knockbride Church, Community Tractor Service – polish up the Tractor and bring it out to pray for the harvest.

Bailieborough Hen’s Shed: Bailieborough Hen’s Shed is a sparkly new initiative, which aims to give the women of Bailieborough, a space where they can take time for themselves, enjoy company and a chat over a cup of tea, engage in courses and community projects and most importantly, make friends and create a support network, so that we ladies can be there for each other when needed.

A small group of ladies are currently negotiating the process of setting up this group and we would welcome the input of any women who would be interested in being members of the group.

We want your suggestions and support in developing a programme of activities and get-togethers for the initial period from September 2019 up to Christmas 2019. By then we should have an established group to carry us forward into 2020 and beyond!

The Beckscourt Centre has kindly agreed to provide space for us as we take our first steps and a big ‘Thank You’ goes to Padraig McBreen and Breffni Integrated for their support so far. Now it is up to we ladies to do it for ourselves!

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 23^rd, September 2019

Senior;

With most local adult football now almost finished for the year it will be an opportunity for our lads to prepare early for the 2020 season with a few weeks of training and challenge games to finish out the year. Training will resume in early October.

Under 13/15/17;

Under 13s continue every other week in Breffni at the U13 league. They are going very well.

Under 11;

The under 11s continue their fine season in Breffni on Monday in the penultimate round of the league.

Under 7/9;

We are almost ready to hit the ground with our indoor season. We hope to have individual sessions for both the U7s and U9s. Full details next week but we expect to start the first week of October.

All Ireland football ticket draws;

Thanks to all who supported both draws for tickets for the two All Ireland football finals. Congratulations to Jack Barry and Bernie Lambe. Your support has contributed significantly to the purchase of a new set of U11 jerseys for the boys.
