Christmas Cheer: In these very unusual and trying times, it was great to see the members and friends of the Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events out and about last weekend getting the Christmas Lights and fixtures all ready for the Festive season. This year—more than any other year—the entire community will need a ‘lift’ to see us through the long dark days ahead and it will be through the efforts of these local people that we will have something to look forward to and enjoy, so a big ‘Thank You’ to all the people who have put in the hard work to help our town. 

Bailieborough Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre: Update: We at Bailieborough Swimming and Leisure Centre CLG hope that everyone is safe and well at this time.

We are absolutely thrilled that we have recently been successful in getting approval for grant funding for €122,500. We will continue to work with Cavan County Council and Government agencies to draw down this funding as soon as we can. In light of this good news, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all our public representatives who worked with us to achieve this funding. We want to let the public know that the Board are now working on plans to reopen the centre as soon as possible in early 2021 so please keep posted on the centre’s website and on social media for further developments.

Our General Manager, Mary McConnell, who has worked at the Leisure Centre since its opening has decided to take some personal time away from the Leisure Centre. The Board will seek to find a replacement manager to fill this post. In the meantime, we send Mary our best wishes and we look forward to seeing her back at the Centre sometime in the future.

Killann Parish: Masses:  No public Masses for the time being due to Covid  restrictions. Masses will be said at usual Bailieborough times and may be viewed on our webcam or heard on our radio system at 107.8FM. At Level 5 of the Covid plan, weddings and funerals may take place, but numbers will be restricted.  This will be the case for the foreseeable future.

Baptisms: No Baptisms will take place, except in the cases of emergency while we remain in Level 5. When we return to Level 3, Baptisms may take place but only the parents, child and godparents may attend. As people know, the issue is not the gatherings in church, but the gathering that may take place in the home afterwards.

Moybologue Historical Society: Work has continued apace again this week at Moybologue Old graveyard to almost complete the work on the roadside walls and progress the work on the Church ruins. The weather certainly isn’t helping, but locally based stonework specialists Rocks Road Stone Co are making great progress. Kevin Blackwood of Blackwood and Associates is providing Conservation Architect supervision and Rosanne Meenan is providing archaeological oversight and were both on-site on Saturday as was local Bat Conservation expert Brian Keeley who undertook some habitat monitoring.

This project was made possible thanks to funding from the National Monuments Service – Archaeology Community Monuments Fund 2020.

Annie’s Funeral Mass took place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, on Saturday, November 14^th with burial afterwards in St. Annes Cemetery, Bailieborough.

Bailieborough St. Vincent DePaul: Anyone wishing to donate items to the St. Vincent DePaul, can do so, between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm weekdays. There are 3 cages at the side alleyway of the shop in which to deposit your items.

Halloween ‘Fright Night’: Halloween fright night is back this year. Bigger and better than ever. Friday the 30^th  of October. All Covid guidelines will be in place and so will sanitising stations. Bailieborough Leisure Centre: Update: We hope that you and your families are keeping well. Just to give you an update on the position of the Leisure Centre.

The current level 3 restrictions and general uncertainties around Covid 19 have curtailed plans of reopening . The situation will be reviewed in tandem with government restrictions and guidelines.

The Board of Management are working hard and have had numerous meetings regarding funding and grants.

We know how important the leisure centre is in the community and appreciate your patience during these difficult times

Art Competition: Link Credit Union Ltd is urging its local community to ‘Imagine More’ for its this year’s Credit Union Annual Art competition.

This year’s theme, ‘Imagine More’, is influenced by the creative role art plays in Irish society and encourages participants to unlock their imagination and look at how art inspires us and our communities. Despite the current challenges, art has kept people from all walks of life connected and this year’s theme encourages participants to express this connectivity on paper or canvass.

The age groups are as follows: 7 years and under, 8-10 years inclusive, 11-13 years inclusive, 14-17 years inclusive, 18 years and over (Adult).

There is also a Special Category for those with physical or intellectual disabilities. (This category are encouraged to use free expression in painting or drawing without the restrictions of the official theme). All entries must be handed into either Kingscourt or Bailieborough Credit Union offices by no later than this Friday, 16^th  October 2020.

 Brendan will be forever missed by his family, his daughters in law Trish, Patricia, Edel and Bernie, sons in law, Kevin and Mick, his much loved grandchildren and his American great-grandchildren, his broken-hearted sisters Rita Lynch and Sue Reilly and his brother Vincent, sisters in law and brothers in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, his many many friends and his unbelievable great neighbours. Brendan was predeceased by his brothers Gerry, Kevin, John, Tommy and Phil and sister Mary.  

Brendan’s Funeral Mass took place in St Patrick’s Church, Tierworker on Tuesday, October 6^th , followed by burial in Moybologue Cemetery.
