Mr. Tommy McEntee: Tommy McEntee, 83, from Lisnalea, Bailieborough, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Monday, the 30th of September 2019 in Cavan General Hospital.
Tommy was a devoted husband of fifty four years to Veronica, and the most wonderful father to Bernard, PJ, Gloria, Terry and Jason. He adored his eleven grand-children and eight great grand-children. Tommy had a close relationship with his younger brother Philip, who lives in Kerry. He is also survived by sisters Lena, Susan, Kay, and brothers, Eugene, Gerard and Christy, daughters in-law, Shirley and Caroline, son in-law, Stephen, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Tommy will be sadly missed by all.
In recent years Tommy suffered with heart problems, resulting in frequent admissions to hospital. He had tremendous respect for the staff in Cavan General, and appreciated their hard work; so much so, that he rewarded them with a daily dose of his jokes and trickery. No matter how unwell he felt, his mission was to make people smile and laugh.
Tommy began his life in Nolagh, Shercock where he was born and reared with his seven brothers and four sisters by their parents Anne and Terence. He attended Corlatty Carroll National School, going straight from there into his first place of employment in Killanny, working as a farmhand. He went from there to a farm in Armagh, and then back to his home town to work for a local farmer named Lexi Hall. In his early thirties he found employment with Cavan County Council as the Water Caretaker in Bailieborough, where he remained for twenty five years until his early retirement.
Tommy and Veronica lived in Drumbannon when their family were young. In those days Tommy’s interests revolved around his children. The simple things like forest walks, days out fishing, picnics on Lough An Leagh Mountain, beach holidays, and even, star gazing on a summer’s night. These were the things that made him a happy man.
Tommy discovered he had green fingers when he and Veronica moved to Lisnalea after his retirement. They spent most of their free time working to maintain their beautiful gardens, where they enjoyed many happy days sitting in the sunshine surrounded by their colourful blooms.
Tommy loved his life and was happiest when surrounded by his family. He had enough love to share between each and every one of them. He will stay in their hearts forever.
Tommy’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Wednesday, October 2nd –at which Fr. Ultan McGoohan P.P. officiated—and following which, his remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
Photography Exhibition: ‘What Peace looks like to me’ !! All welcome to the launch of a photography exhibition at Bailieborough Courthouse on Sunday next, 20th October at 3.00pm. Guest Speaker, Sean Hillen will deliver a presentation of his work from ‘Melancholy Memories’ and launch the display. Another initiative of the PEACE IV SEUPB programme “Building Positive Relations”. A group of photographers from Bailieborough have collaborated with a group from Dungannon and over a period of time, got a real feel for how they had all been affected by the Troubles. The Cavan 365 community based Garda Youth Diversion project launched recently in Bailieborough
The service is a multi- agency youth crime prevention initiative, that primarily seeks to divert young people who have been involved in anti-social and/or criminal behaviour, by providing suitable activities to facilitate personal development.
We met with and listened to three fine young men, Luke, Josh and Jordon who gave their stories on how the project helped them in Cavan.
The Cavan 365 project will be based in Bailieborough with satellite services planned for Mullagh, Kingscourt, Cootehill and Ballyjamesduff.
The new service is funded through the Youth Justice Service in conjunction with An Garda Síochána and is managed by Foróige.
Well done to all involved in getting this service to Bailieborough and best wishes to the team : Alma, Aishling, Catherina and Sharon under the leadership of Foróige area manager Colin McAree.
October—Month of The Rosary: The Rosary will be said at the Grotto on the Virginia Road for the month of October at 7.30pm, every evening except Saturdays. All are very welcome to come along and pray for their many intentions.
Bailieborough Development Association: Bailieborough Development Association hosted a spectacular weekend of celebration of song. The Hard Times Chorus and Omagh Youth Peace Choir performed at 3 wonderful events : Saturday in St Annes, and Sunday at the Omagh Presbyterian Harvest Festival and at Omagh Library. Thank you to all who attended, we hope to continue our work with these 2 choirs into the future. Special thanks to Daryl Simpson, Musical Director Omagh Youth Peace Choir, Claire O Reilly, Musical Director Hard Times Chorus, Sean O Reilly, Hard Times Chorus Co-ordinator, Jane Crudden and her Team from PEACE IV and Special EU Programmes Body for funding both the renovation of Bailieborough Courthouse and the Programme of Activity. Thank you to all of the choir members who attended practice in the lead up to the event and for your outstanding performance’s over the weekend.

Bailieborough Mens/ Hen’s Shed: The Hen’s Shed currently meets each Wednesday evening in the Bexcourt Centre from 7:15 till 9pm, and each Thursday morning in the Library from 10 till 12 noon. St. Anne’s National School ‘Fun Run’: St. Anne’s N.S. are organising a ‘Fun Run’ on Sunday next, October 20th starting at St. Anne’s National School. Registration will take place from 11.00am on the day. Entry fee is €5 or a donation to take part. Individuals and families are invited to walk or run the 1K, 3K, 5K or 10K routes. Prizes and refreshments also on the day. This event promises to be a colourful occasion, to which the whole school is looking forward to. We would love you to join us for this fun event.
Christianity Explored Course: A ‘Christianity Explored’ course will take place from
8-9pm at The Courthouse in Bailieborough, beginning on Wednesday 23rd of October. This is a 6-week course designed to give you time and space to think about the big questions of life and to explore the life Jesus. ‘Colourful Cavan and Beyond,’ by Artist Jim McParlin. An Art exhibition comprising of paintings depicting scenes from around the county and locations further afield. The exhibition will be on view in the Library until Friday next, October 18th. All are welcome during Library opening hours.

conjunction with Irish Heart Foundation are offering this CPR Training to the
whole community.
The course takes just one hour – 60 minutes to learn to save a life!
The instructor will provide all the material and will run 3 CPR courses with 30
people per course..
If we have enough interest then this course will go ahead in late November with the date and venue to be confirmed.

Halloween ‘Fright Night’ is back!!: Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events are happy to announce that, the ‘Halloween Fright Night’ is back on this year. Following the terrific success of last year’s event, this year’s one takes place on Friday, October 25th at the Chapel Carpark, at the Town Lake. Looking forward to seeing you all at THE 16TH GALLANT 5KM/10KM CHALLENGE: In aid of St Christopher’s Hospice Cavan takes place on Saturday 26th October 2019. This event will start and finish at MacSeains Bar, Cornafean and will be marked out and stewarded along the route to guide you along the way to whichever distance you decide to participate in.
