/in News /by PetraReimagine Public Consultation: Bailieborough Backlands Event: Cavan County Council and The Irish Architectural Foundation are hosting an event to invite ideas and submissions as part of the Reimagine Public Consultation Bailieborough back-lands.
Everyone is welcome to join us for ‘Re-Imagine’ at the former Town and Country, (premises in the middle of Main St.) from 11am to 4pm, on Saturday next, the 12th of October 2024 for music, jugglers, poetry, magic, sculpture, mural, ice cream, coffee and drama.
Bailieborough Active Age Group: Next meeting on Tuesday, 15th October in the Courthouse from 2pm to 4pm. Hope to see you all there. Everyone Welcome.
Halloween ‘Fright Night’: Fright Night is back again!!
Join us for an evening full of fun and scares at the Bailieborough Town Lake from 7.00pm on Monday, October 28th. Bigger and better than ever. Suitable for all ages. Car parking available at the Community Centre, Community School or the Church Carpark on the Virginia Road side. No parking available at the event location.. Fancy dress and lights display. This year, ‘The Workshop Dance Acedemy’ will keep all the boys and girls entertained by teaching a fun Halloween Dance! If the lake floods, we will have music, fun, games and fancy dress in the car park too. Tickets are €5 per person for the ‘Scary Walk’. The main sponsor this year is Link Credit Union. Regretted Death: The death has occurred of Patsy Martin,
Drumeva, Tunnyduff, Bailieborough, Cavan.
Patsy Martin, Drumeva, Tunnyduff and formerly of Heatherfield, Bailieborough, Co Cavan passed away on Sunday, 29th September 2024 peacefully surrounded by his family.
Deeply regretted by his partner Violet, Violet’s family Kristal and Donald, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
Patsy’s Funeral took place on Tuesday, 1st October in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.
Bailieborough Bowls: Indoor bowls have recommenced in the Bailieborough Community Centre on Wednesday’s at 8pm. Tuition is available free of charge and membership is open to all members of the community.
Regretted Death: The death has occurred of Ernest (Ernie) Coote, Drumore, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, on Tuesday, October 1st 2024, peacefully in the care of The Sheelin Nursing Home. Ernis was predeceased by his parents William and Elizabeth and his brother Noel. Deeply regretted by his sister Hazel and brothers Robert and James. Deeply missed by his niece and nephews Malcolm, Denise, Darren, Gary, Adrian and Derek, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, friends and neighbours especially Jennifer and David.
Ernie’s Funeral Service took place in Trinity Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 3rd and afterwards, Ernie’s remains were laid to rest in Old Urcher Graveyard.

Bailieborough Library: We’re kicking off the Halloween season here at Bailieborough Library with a poetry competition for children aged 9-12yrs but kids of all ages are welcome to give it a go!
Gary the Ghost is causing trouble at Bailieborough Library and we need your help to scare him away! The author of the best scariest poem will win a special Halloween hamper to say thank you! Pop into Bailieborough Library to pick up your entry form and poetry template now! Closing date is the 19th of October.
Book Club: The next meeting of the Library ‘Book Club’ will take place on Thursday, October 24th at 6.30pm. This months book to review, is ‘The Queen of Dirt Island’ by Donal Ryan. Copies are available from behind the Library desk.
The craft group takes place every Friday at 11am in the Library.

Swim Ireland: Swim Ireland have partnered with Bailieborough Leisure Centre Cavan to deliver ‘HE Swims’
This programme is aimed at males who want to increase their level of physical activity. The classes are a mix of semi structured swimming lessons and some aqua fit movements. There is an important element of social inclusion with this programme, participants forage new friendships while being active in the water. Please contact the Cente, for more information.

‘Melting Words-Creative Conversations’: As part of ‘The Art of Life Project’ funded by Creative Ireland, Shared Island and Cavan County Council through Creative Cavan. This FREE mindful art workshop will provide a meaningful and engaging way for adults to explore and start conversations about death and dying. Most of us don’t want to think about what will happen after we die because we are living our lives, however the ending of our stories matter too. When we are open to talk out about death and dying with our loved ones, we create an opportunity to engage in meaningful exchanges before it’s too late.

East Cavan Gaels: East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club News 7th October 2024
Senior; With Omagh winning the Tyrone Junior Championship on Sunday last, we now know our opponents in the Ulster Junior Club Championship in early November. Training and challenge games aplenty to prepare. The Cootehill Celtic 7 a side competition, will help sharpen the lads for bigger challenges ahead. Senior training Monday at 8pm.
U8/10/12/14/16/18;
U12/14/16s have training on Monday 7pm, championships in all grades to come soon.
The indoor season gathered pace with three good sessions in Shercock, Mullagh and Killinkere on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday respectively. These sessions are open to both boys and girls and all are very welcome.
Cavan GAA have hurling training sessions for all aged 8-11 at Kingspan Breffni on Mondays from 6.30-7.30. Also 11-14 year olds on Thursdays at 6.30 at Kingspan Breffni 3G.

Regretted Death: Rose Fulton (nee Clarke), Cavan Road, Bailieborough, Co Cavan passed away on Monday, 23rd September 2024 in her 99th year, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the exceptional care of the Newgrange Unit in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Rose was predeceased by her beloved grandson Joseph and son-in-law David.
Deeply regretted by her sons Joseph (Eileen) and Paddy (Rosemary), daughters Angela, Marguerite (Pat) and Rosemary (Bert), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her many friends.
Rose’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Thursday, September 26th and afterwards, Rose’s remains were laid to rest in St. Annes Cemetery.

Deeply regretted by her loving husband Paddy, daughter Vanessa, son Peter, son-in-law Austin, daughter-in-law Van Anh, grandchildren Emma, Thomas, Leah, Shane, Lily, James and Patrick, brothers Kieran, Tony, Damien and Brian, sister Joan (predeceased by her brothers and sisters Mai, Betty, Eileen, Tricia, Patsy, Raymond, and Peadar), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

U12s get a week off and hopefully a game next weekend.
Our indoor season started well in Mullagh on Friday last. This coming week we return to Shercock on Wednesday, Mullagh on Friday and Killinkere on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to any, or all, sessions.
Cavan GAA have hurling training sessions for all aged 8-11 at Kingspan Breffni starting on Monday from 6.30-7.30. Over 60 boys at last Mondays session so a positive start there. Also 11-14 year olds on Thursday at 6.30 at Kingspan Breffni 3G.

Our ever popular table quiz will return on Friday, 29th November in Nixys, The Square Bar in Bailieborough. Always a great social occasion for the club with the welcome addition of the more than welcome Tom Walsh (Senior Hurling Championship) Cup which will be on display, with photo opportunities too! Mark and Caroline Argue always set the bar high with their tests of knowledge and we look forward to another well attended night with raffle and spot prizes too!

Regretted Death: The death has occurred of Sylvia Mullane (née Love) Artane, Dublin / Bailieborough, Cavan. Sylvia Mullane (née, Love), (Artane, Dublin and formerly of Bailieborough, Co. Cavan) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 15th 2024. Beloved wife of John and loving mam to Lorraine, David and Jennifer. Sadly missed by her family, daughter-in-law Aoife, son-in-law Keith, grandchildren Cara, Sophie, Emmie and Kate, extended family friends and neighbours.
A special thank you to St. Francis Hospice Home Care Team and all the staff at Beaumont Hospital for their care and kindness shown to Sylvia.
Sylvia’s remains were removed to Dardistown Crematorium (Dublin) for a Funeral Service on Friday, September 20th followed by Cremation.

Rhythmic Dance Twirlers are currently looking for New members to join us.
Classes are held every Tuesday in the Bailieborough Courthouse from 5-7pm
and also every Friday, from 5-7pm in the Kingscourt Community Centre.
Boys and girls from age 4 are welcome.
Congratulations and Well Done: Congratulations to Bailieborough Shamrocks, stalwart, Mickey ‘The Rock’ Clinch and the Cavan Gaelic Masters on a great win over Galway on Saturday last. The Cavan lads won by 1—15 to 0—10 in the game played in Drumlish. Another medal for the growing collection Michael Clinch!!

U12/14/16 training has returned to the astro at Bailieboro Celtic at The Vale 7-8pm. Cavan GAA have blitzes for 11-14 year olds every Thursday starting this Thursday from 6.30-7.30 in Kingspan Breffni 3G and runs for six weeks, so plenty of hurling for those lads.
Indoor club training returns this week in Mullagh and next week in Killinkere. This Friday in Mullagh Community Sports Hall. U8 4-5pm and U10 from 5-6pm. For boys and girls. €3 each. Killinkere will return from Saturday 5th October. U8 1pm and U10 2pm.
Cavan GAA have hurling training sessions for all aged 8-11 at Kingspan Breffni starting on Monday from 6.30-7.30. Great number registered so far so should be good fun for them.
Save the date!! Our ever popular Table Quiz will return on Friday 29th November in Nixys, The Square Bar in Bailieborough. Always a great social occasion for the club with the welcome addition of the more than welcome Tom Walsh (Senior Hurling Championship) Cup which will be on display, with photo opportunities too! Mark and Caroline Argue always set the bar high with their tests of knowledge and we look forward to another well attended night with raffle and spot prizes too!
