‘Operation Transformation’ 2020:

Peter was predeceased by his wife Bridie and his infant daughter Rosemary. 

Peter’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Thursday, February 6^th with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Bailieborough Parenting Support Programme 2020: The Bailieborough Parenting Support Programme will take place from Thursday, February 13^th to Thursday, March 19^th (once a week) in Bailieborough Courthouse, Main Street, Bailieborough. Bailieborough Social Day Group: The Group will resume today, Wednesday, February 12^th following the Christmas break in the Community Centre, Chapel Road from 2.30pm to 4.30pm for more activities, etc… New members are always most welcome to join the group. Women’s World Day of Prayer: Our Parish is excited to be hosting the Women’s World Day of Prayer in St. Anne’s on Friday, March 6^th at 8.00pm. This event will be an Ecumenical gathering. A meeting to plan the event will be held in the Parish Centre on Thursday, February 13^th at 7.30pm. Assistance is needed to organise the Liturgy and the refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.

 Bailieborough School of Music: Bailieborough School of Music Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 12^th February at 8pm in the Bailie Hotel.  All parents and guardians of all students are invited to attend. Documentary: In June 2019, a film crew from the BBC in Belfast visited Bailieborough and Ballyjamesduff. Since then a half-hour documentary entitled ‘HAME’ was made focusing on both towns. It will be broadcast on BBC 2 NI on Sunday night next, February 2^nd at 10pm.

Stresscontrol: Face your fears, be more active and boost your wellbeing: Stress affects us all in our daily lives. Do you want to learn ways to recognise the signs of stress and learn helpful tips to manage it more effectively? If you do, then come along to stresscontrol!! The event will commence on Tuesday next, February 4^th 2020 in the Courthouse, Lr. Main St, from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. The course will run for 6 weeks—come along when you can!  Lakelands Taekwondo and Self Defence: Due to the large numbers that have shown up for training, it has been decided to run three classes in future on Monday evenings. Children born in 2013 and 2014 will train from 6pm to 7pm, children born in 2011 or 2012 will train from 7pm to 8pm and children born in or before 2010 will be training from 8pm to 9pm. East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 27^th, January 2020.

Welcome to 2020 to all our hurlers and families! What another big year to come!

Under 7;

Training is now up and running indoors on Fridays for these lads. Lots of new starters over the past months and more are very welcome. Registration this coming Friday at training.

Fridays Under 7s.

Under 9;

These lads continue to do great work every week with a major improvement now that they are completely separate from the younger group. Registration this Friday with games to come quick and fast after that.

Fridays Under 9s.

Under 11;

Training resumes in the coming weeks tbc with registration at the same time.

Under 13;

Looking forward to this group getting going as they will be bolstered by a significant group moving up from last years U11 squad. The Tain league will begin in April.

Under 15;

This group will start training fairly soon. Tain U15 Tain league will be the main target this year for a very talented group.

Under 17;

Again a good few lads moving into this grade this year before the big move to Senior in the years ahead.

Senior;

The lads have started the year with some wallball sessions in Kingscourt and will continue until February when they move outside. Monaghan league, Cavan league and Championship as well as new cross county Cuchulainn league in the summer should, finally, give our lads a full meaningful season of hurling. It’s from these competitions that we can develop and grow and hopefully win some silverware.

Congratulations to Jack Barry and Cian McEntee who have been retained onto the Cavan Senior hurling panel for 2020 and they have been joined by Adam Baldwin and Derek Argue which will be of great benefit to both club and county. Well done lads.

An Garda Síochána have kindly granted a Permit for the donation bucket for Bailieborough Cancer Comfort. Bailieborough Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre have kindly donated 1 Months membership for Pool and Gym to the person with the most weight loss after the 8 weeks. Thanks to Jameson’s Pharmacy, for the donation of water bottles and to SuperValu and Tesco for the donations of fruit and water.

Christmas in Bailieborough: Attendances at all the religious services in the area were up on previous years, with many people and their families returning home from Australia, England, the U.S.A., and many other countries for the Festive occasion. The Christmas spirit was in evidence—particularly on Christmas Eve—with the Annual Christmas Carol singing by the Bailieborough Cancer Fund.

Footfall in the local shops was up and in the run up to Christmas, trying to get parking on Main St., was a nightmare at times but shoppers made good use of the car parks in the town and fair play to Francis and Aiden Clarke, who made their car park available for the Festive period.

The Christmas Lights also added a lot of festive cheer and feel to the town and all involved with the project deserve thanks for all their hard work and commitment.

 A big ‘well done’ to everyone who took part in the Christmas Day Swim in Bailieborough. It was cold and frosty but also bright and sunny and the conditions  didn’t hold the locals back, from the traditional Christmas Day Swim which was being held for the 26^th time, with the proceeds going to the Bailieborough Senior Citizens Day Centre.

The Athletic Club’s Annual St. Stephen’s Day run was well supported with participant’s eager to clear the cobwebs after Christmas Day and the by now Annual Walk on the 28^th of December was very well supported.

Bailieborough Men’s Shed: Recently the Men’s Shed in Bexcourt, Bailieborough had the majority of their power tools stolen in a burglary. Garda Owen Finn, Bailieborough Garda Station, is the liaison Garda with the group and is hosting a Table Quiz in the Bailie Hotel in Bailieborough on Friday, 3rd January 2020 to help raise funds to replace their tools. All proceeds from the night will go directly to the Men’s Shed. Table of 4 is €20.00 (or €5.00 pp) and the starting time is 7pm. Please come along if you are free and support this local cause.

‘Operation Transformation’ 2020—Community Event: Everyone welcome. No registration required—just come along. Open to the entire community—of all ages!! Regretted Death: The community were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sr. Monica Markey, St. Joseph’s Convent, Ballymote, Sligo and formerly of  Bailieborough, Co. Cavan who passed away peacefully, in the loving care of the doctors, nurses and staff at the North West Hospice, Sligo on Saturday, December 21^st . Sr. Monica was predeceased by her sister Maureen and brothers Pat, Owen, Jim and John. Sr. Monica will be sadly missed by the St. Joseph’s community, her brother Philip, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Sr. Monica’s Requiem Funeral Mass took place on Tuesday, December 24^th  in the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Ballymote, with burial afterwards in Sligo Cemetery.

Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events: There was a huge turnout in Bailieborough on Saturday evening last for the switching on of the town’s  Christmas Lghts, by well known local business owner Hubert Jennings. Well done to the hardworking Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events committee for putting up the Town lights and for organising such a terrific celebration for the families and children of our town. As always a huge turnout in the Annual Tractor Run in aid of the Children’s Ward in Cavan General Hospital which added huge colour and excitement to the evening, Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and thanks for all your support !!

St. Anne’s Conference offers support and friendship, on a confidential basis, to those in Bailieborough, Knockbride, Shercock and Tierworker, who request help and who are in need. As expected, Christmas time puts particular pressure on the Conference’s Finances and hence our appeal at this time.
