Jimmy’s Funeral Mass took place in St Brigid’s Church, Knockbride West (Tunnyduff) on Monday, February 7th  with burial afterwards in Knockbride East Cemetery.

Local Man to walk with Charlie Bird: The community wishes local man, Kevin Carolan health and fitness on Saturday April 2nd, when he walks alongside his friend of recent times, Charlie Bird to the very top of Croagh Patrick, Kevin says,”everyday across this country people are battling there own mountains with physical and mental issues”. He’s asking everyone who feels able, to travel to Mayo or do the walk in your own surroundings. Kevin will fly the flag for Bailieborough and Cavan on Saturday April 2nd. East Cavan Swim Club: Five of our swimmers travelled to Bangor to represent Bailieborough Community School in the Swim Ulster Schools Cup and Championships.
Well done to Roisin Pierce, Aoibheann Taaffe, Lian Moore, Anna Behme and Mark Jones.
Special mention to Anna reaching finals in both her strokes and to Mark on his first competition.
Great teamwork from everyone ensured a successful and enjoyable day for everyone, with the girls relay team swimming up an age level but placing a very successful 6th overall.

Everybody welcome.   Darkness into Light, Bailieborough: With things getting a lot closer to normal we can all look forward to Darkness into Light 2022. Save the Date – 7th May 2022 4.15am! Registration February 2022. Details to follow soon.   Church Fundraiser: St Mary’s Church, Newcastle, Moynalty, Kells Co. Meath is in a state of disrepair; As it is an essential part of our community, a committee has been formed to help raise funds for the restoration of the following: 1. Heating system upgrade. 2. Refurbishment of the gutters. 3. External Powerwashing. 4. Internal and external painting. We hope to restore the chapel to it’s former glory. As you can appreciate, all of these restoration works will be costly but are in great need to save the building from any further damage. Once relevant funding is obtained, works will commence on the heating system. That’s where we need your help. All Donations, no matter how large or small, are greatly appreciated. Contact any committee member or go to the committee’s ‘Gofund me’ page on Facebook.   ‘Run Of The Leprechaun’s’:  ‘Run of the Leprechauns’ will take place on Thursday, March 17th  starting from Bailieborough Community Centre. Registration takes place at 11am and the race takes place at 12pm. Distances of 3k, 5k and 10k. Entry fee is € 5 per person. Facepainting and prizes and music and fun along the way. All proceeds go to the Bailieborough MidSummer Festival 2022.   Leanne on target again!:  Bailieborough native and Liverpool and Republic of Ireland player, Leanne Kiernan resumed her scoring ways on Sunday last, when she scored two first half goals in Liverpool’s 3—0 home win over Coventry United. These goals bring Leanne’s total to twelve League goals scored in the season, so far.  Liverpool Ladies now lead the Championship by nine points from second placed Charlton with eight games left to play. Next up for the ‘Reds’ is a home game against Sunderland on Sunday next.   East Cavan Gaels GAA Club –Congratulations to our own Rory Farrell who made his Senior intercounty debut for Cavan hurlers v Fermanagh on Sunday last. Along with Jack Barry, East Cavan Gaels now have two men on the team. Well done to both. Hopefully more to follow them in the years ahead. Deepest Sympathy:Bridget Farrell (née Donnellan) of Belville, Ballinagh, formerly of Blackhills, Bailieborough, passed away peacefully at Castlemanor Nursing Home on Saturday, January 22nd. Predeceased by her father John and mother Margaret Donnellan, brothers Sean and Matt, sisters Rosemary, Angie and Margaret, and reunited with her devoted husband Tom, very deeply regretted by her heartbroken daughter Linda (McSherry), Son in Law Charles, grandchildren Emma (Owen Glennon) and Paul McSherry (Anne-marie), great-Granddaughter Ella, Great-grandsons, Charlie, Thomas and Robin, sister Patricia Gilsenan and brother in law Raymond (Bailieborough), her brother Philip Donnellan and sister in law Agnes, Ballyjamesduff, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Bridget’s Funeral Mass took place in St Phelims Church, Ballinagh on Tuesday, 25th  January, with burial in New Cemetery, Crossdoney Road. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Special congrats to Anna, achieving an Irish Summer Nationals (Division 1) time for the first time , with Division 2 times for Kerry, Adrienne, Kate, Finn and Oscar.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort: Thanks to everyone who gave so generously to the ‘Singing Santa’s’ on Christmas Eve. A total of 6,685 was raised for this very worthy cause.

John James’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Tuesday, January 18th 2022 and afterwards his remains were laid to rest in St. Annes Cemetery.

We welcome all the lads back including some new players to the club and especially those ECG men who move up to adult hurling for the first time this year after serving the apprenticeship all the way along with us! Cavan Senior/ U20; We wish the East Cavan representatives on both squads well in the year ahead. Under 13/15; Lads scheduled to return to training in February with Táin Leagues in the Spring for both sides. Under 11; Training will resume in February. Under 7/9; The lads in both groups had a great return on Saturday in Killinkere with the indoor proving a great success. Lots of new players and lots of room so even more are welcome in the weeks and months ahead. The entire East Cavan region is now well represented on all our squads. Senior football trainng commences on Tuesday evening next, January 18th. Old and new members are welcome to come along and join in.

Congratulations to Danny Keenan (#8085) won the €10,000 cash prize in the Shamrocks  ‘Dublin City Apartment or €250,000 Cash’ draw held on December 28th. There are still some tickets left for the main draw on St. Patrick’s Day.  

Heartfelt Sympathy: The entire community were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Julie Kehoe, Craanford, Gorey, Wexford / Bailieborough, Cavan, partner of Dessie Heery, Bailieborough, who passed away on Friday, December 31st, 2021, following a road accident. Julie was the beloved mother of Jack, Grace and Hannah and sister of Ger, Martina and Ciaran. Deeply regretted by her mother Geraldine, partner Dessie, son Jack, daughters Grace and Hannah, brothers, sister, sister-in-law, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, relatives and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is extended. Julie was predeceased by her father Jack.  

Julie’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Patrick’s Church, Craanford on Thursday, 6th  January 2022 and afterwards, Julie’s remains were laid to rest in the adjoining Cemetery.

Mary was predeceased by her husband George.

Mary’s Funeral Service took place in Drung Parish Church on Sunday, January 2nd , 2022 with burial afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

Leanne on Fire!!: Leanne Kiernan got the New Year off to the best possible start when she scored a hat-trick in six second half minutes to help Liverpool Ladies to a 6—0 away win over Blackburn Rovers Ladies. The Bailieborough native has now brought her tally for the season to 10 goals scored. With half the season gone Liverpool Ladies now lead the Championship by 5 points. Next up is Watford Ladies on Sunday afternoon next.

Thank You: The Clarke family would like to thank everyone for their support, kind words and generosity in their recent fundraiser in memory of Pat Clarke (milkman). A massive 12,800 was raised for Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care and we hope this will help them continue their trojan work.

Christmas Masses in St. Annes: With the ongoing Covid situation, once again this will be a different Christmas. Arrangements for St. Annes are as follows: Mass on Christmas Eve at 4.00pm and 7.00pm, Mass on Christmas Day at 10.00am. As happened last year, the 4.00pm Christmas Eve Mass is reserved for older parishioners and people who may feel vulnerable due to Covid. It is not a Mass for children.  The 7pm and 10am Masses are open to everyone. There will be no midnight Mass because it was poorly attended last year. This will be reviewed next year.

 Christmas Day Swim: Due to the high number of Covid 19 cases and with everyone ‘s best interests in mind. there will NOT be an organised swim in the Town Lake on Christmas day.

Castle Lake Forest Demense: The Castle Lake committee chaired by Kevin Smith and facilitated by Bailieborough Development Association applied for funding for improved parking on The Cavan Road entrance as it does not currently have adequate parking facilties for the numbers using it.

This project proposes to improve access to the park at this entrance by enhancing carparking facilities just inside the entrance to the park at this location, creating an additional 30 spaces and creating safer and improved access to the forest, lake and trails.

A new 150Sqm family picnic and rest area will also be created along the trails, which will provide a safe, accessible space within which to enjoy the outdoors.

Special thanks to Heather Humphreys department for their continued and ongoing support for Bailieborough and Cavan County Council‘s, Joanne Hayes and John Donohoe for helping us with the application., Sarah O Reilly, County Councillor founder and member of the committee who has brought so much to the area. This latest round of funding represents over €250,000 invested in the forest by the committee over the past 4 years.

The Saint Vincent DePaul Annual Christmas Appeal: takes place this year on December 11th and 12th. We thank you for your ongoing generosity. Your support can be given in several ways: by the usual collection boxes outside Churches or by taking the Blue prepaid envelopes, which are available in Church porches or on the collection tables outside the Churches. All monies donated via these envelopes will be returned to the local SVP Conference, to provide much needed support to those in need in our community.

Christmas Lights: The Christmas lights were switched on over the weekend and have brought an air of festive spirit to our town, in these strange times. New lights have been added to the display and the Christmas Lights Committee are to be highly commended for all their hard work.  The  Christmas lights this year is a collective effort of people in our town and highlights the desire to revive it! The number of people who helped out is huge and gave vast amount of their time from assembling, erecting and electricians to wire them and to the teleporter drivers. A massive thank you to all. Christmas spirit and community spirit is alive and well in Bailieborough and we wish you all, a happy and peaceful Christmas!

 Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to children Sean, Micheal (Helen), Brendan (Mary), Ned (Roza), Cathal (Anto), Martin (Sharon), Helene (Gerard), Kevin (Gail), Philip (Marian), Raymond (Louise), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Bridie and Rita, sister-in-law Janet, brother-in-law Paddy, nieces, nephews and long life friend Patricia, relatives and friends on the death of Clare Carolan, Thomas St., Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully at Cavan General Hospital on Wednesday, November 17th 2001, surrounded by her loving family. Clare was predeceased by her husband Michael, daughter Anne, sisters May and Eileen and brother Sean. 
Claire’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church on Saturday, November 20th and afterwards her remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.  

Bailieborough Creative Hub: Following on from their great run in the Cavan County Museum “Under Cavan Skies” is now open in Bailieborough Library until Friday, December 3rd.

East Cavan Swim Club: Congratulations to members Billie Jean, Lian and Anna , great swimming and achievement to swim national Community Games for Co. Cavan.

Well done to Billie Jean who has just joined our club and swam Freestyle, to Lian who reached the Butterfly final today, coming 7th, and to Anna also reaching the Breaststroke final and securing a 4th place medal.

Cavan, Roscommon Town and Native of South Africa, who passed away suddenly at his residence on Wednesday, November 17th, 2021. Walter was pre-deceased by his loving wife Petronella and his cherished daughter Lizette .

A celebration of Walters life took place at Lakelands Funeral Home and Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan, on Saturday, November 20th followed by cremation.

Christmas Craft and Gift Fair: A Christmas Craft and Gift Fair will take place in the Bailie Hotel on  this Sunday, December 5th from 11.00am to 6.00pm. Lots of stands, foods and other items that may make your Christmas shopping easier! Open to all and free admission.

Bailieborough Shamrocks AGM: The Club AGM will be held on Friday the 3rd of December at 7pm.

Sunday services are at 9:30am in Mullagh and Shercock, 10:45 am in Bailieborough, 12noon in Knockbride. Audio from the sermon will be available later on Sundays on our YouTube channel.  Face masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing will still be required on Sunday mornings.

Outdoor Funding: Great to see that the Castle Lake Bailieborough has received funding of €101,732 to improve access, parking, trails and the overall visitor experience at the Castle Lake Forest.

Helping our Homeless: Collection point outside SuperValu on the Main Street.

We collect crisps, bars, fresh fruit, pot noodles, cup of soups, sanitary products, boxers, socks, underwear and much more!

Your support means everything to us and our homeless! Our Bailieborough collection point is now outside of SuperValu at 12-1pm every Saturday!

Cavan, who passed away peacefully, at Cavan General Hospital.on Tuesday, November 16th, aged 71 years. Paddy was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary and baby son Patrick.  

Paddy’s Funeral Mass took place in St Kilian’s Church, Mullagh,on Friday, November 19th  followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
