Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2015 – Once again it is that time of the year when the Bailieborough Poetry Festival kicks into gear with a variety of events taking place over this weekend. The following is the Programme of Events for the Festival: Friday 9th October: (Murtagh’s Lounge, Main St.)
18.30 Official launch of “Behind the Lines” Anthology by LitLab. Introduced by Myles Dungan and Julia Rice O’Dea.
19.45 A Wilde Night by Patrick Walsh.
20.00 Poetry reading by Michael Farry and Paddy Halligan.
21.00 Open mic.

 Saturday 10th October:  

10.00 Poetry workshop – Kate Dempsey. (Bailieborough Library)
14.00 Competition prize giving – Michael Farry and Honor Duff (Bailieborough Library).
14.00 – 17.00 Special poetry-themed afternoon tea in Bailie Hotel on Main Street.
16.00 Literary walking tour of Bailieborough with John Ed Sheanon – (starts at Bailieborough Library)
19.00 Open Mic. Featuring writing/ arts groups. – (Murtagh’s Lounge)
20.00 Poems and stories by Patsy McDermott – (Murtagh’s Lounge)
21.00 Poetry reading by Tony Curtis.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Ltd:

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort : Table Quiz:


The Quiz will take place in Fox’s Bar, Bailieborough on Friday 16th October 2015 commencing at 8.45pm, sharp. €40 for a table of 4. Early Bird Round – 8:45pm sharp. Lots of prizes on the night!! Everybody welcome to come along and support a very worthy local cause.

 

Bailieborough Community Choir:

We are looking for new members. Practice take place every Monday evening at 8.30 in Trinity Hall, Virginia Road, Bailieborough. We would welcome all ages, all communities. Great night’s fun to be had and you might even get a cup of tea at the end!! We perform all types of music so it will be of interest to most.

 

Social Day Centre:

The next Get-Together of the Bailieborough Social Day Centre takes place today, Wednesday, October 7th from 2.30 pm to 4.30pm in the Community Centre, Chapel Road. New members are always welcome.

The Mountain Lodge ‘Tractor Run’:

takes place on Sunday next, 11th October from Mountain Lodge. Old, new tractors and vintage cars welcome. Registration will take place at McCabe’s, Mountain Lodge from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Run commences at 12 noon.  All proceeds in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan and Bailieborough Cancer Society in memory of the late Breege O’Reilly. Raffle on the day.  Further information from: Samuel (086) 8226879 or Aidan  (086) 3861103.

 

‘Hardtimes Chorus’:

Many Thanks you all Former and New Members for attending the last three rehearsals for our new show ‘SEASONS OF LOVE’ coming soon. Practice continues next Tuesday and every Tuesday at 8pm in St Anne’s Church, Bailieborough. See you all there. New members are always welcome.

 

Social Dancing:

Our monthly dance takes place in the Community Centre on next Saturday 10th of October, with one of the most popular bands on this circuit,’ J and S Sound’. The usual highly acclaimed refreshments will be provided. A great value night’s entertainment for all who come along.

 

St. Vincent De Paul, Clothes Shop:

The St. Vincent de Paul Clothes Shop will be open each Saturday morning from 10.00 am to 1pm starting on Saturday, October, 10th. The conference is grateful for all donations of good quality clothing, footwear, household and bed linen and we look forward to your continued support.

 

‘My Fair Lady’:

Bailieborough Community School will present their annual musical and this year it is to be ‘My Fair Lady’ from Wednesday, October 21st to Saturday, October 24th in the Community School. As demand for tickets for this event usually outstrip supply, people are advised to book their tickets at 087 461 8432 as soon as possible.

 

Class of ’85 Reunion:

A reunion of the Leaving Cert class of 1985, including all those who were first years in Lourdesville or the Vocational school in Bailieboro in 1980, will be held on Saturday, 14th November in the Bailie Hotel. Those who started in Lourdesville or The ‘Tech’ in 1980 are invited to attend the reunion.
A Mass for deceased class members will be held in St. Anne’s Church at 7pm.

October— Month of the Holy Rosary:

A Rosary will be said at the Grotto on the Virginia Road, for the month of October, commencing on Thursday, October 1st at 8.00pm.  No Rosary on Saturdays. Everyone welcome to join in prayer for personal intentions as well as the sick of the Parish.

 

Safe Pass:

Safe Pass at Bailieborough Business Centre with Cathal Bannon. Following the success of past classes in the Centre our next 1 day Safe Pass class is scheduled for October 22nd. This class runs all day from 8.00am till 5.00pm, costs €100.00 including lunch. All past participants have said they would choose Bailieborough Business Centre as their preferred venue. Bailieborough ‘Lend A Hand:

Garda vetted volunteers with identification are ready to assist and help the elderly in our community. If you have gardening jobs, hedge and grass cutting, tidying up or ant type of small repairs to get done then ‘Lend A Hand’, is at your doorstep. No job is too small for our volunteers and to avail of this service just call Ann at 042 9694825 from 9.00am to 2.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Walk, Jog Or Run….

Exercising Is FUN! Every Monday and Wednesday evenings at 8pm join us at Bailieborough Community Centre! All welcome—no matter what your fitness levels are!. Ok folks, join us to run, jog or walk and most importantly tea, biscuits, fruit and chat afterwards.

 

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 5th October 2015:

Under 6/8/10; Good numbers at both sessions in Kingscourt on Thursdays and Bailieborough on Fridays. Encouraging to see lots of new faces taking up the game with us.

Under 12; The lads have now qualified to play in the semi-final this coming Wednesday on the 3G at Breffni Park v St. Felim’s at 7pm. All support very welcome.

 

After school hurling;

Cavan GAA and Ulster GAA are providing five weeks of indoor after school hurling in Bailieborough Community School Sports Hall each Thursday from 4-5pm for those in 4th, 5th and 6th class. The cost for the five weeks is just €5 and all existing players and those who would like to try hurling are especially welcome.

Under 14; The lads had a good win away to St.Feilims in the league on Sunday morning.

Under 16/18; Both Championships are scheduled to start in the coming weeks. Training on Wednesday at 6.30 in St. Anne’s Park, Bailieborough GAA.

Training times and venues; Under 6/8/10;

Kingscourt group; Indoors – new day and time.

Thursdays at Kingscourt Community Centre. Under 6/8 from 6.45-7.45 and Under 10 from 6.45-8.15. €2 each please.

Bailieborough group; Fridays – Under 6/8 from 6-7pm. Under 10 from 7-8pm in Bailieboro Community School Sports Hall. €2 each please.

Both sessions are open to anyone from the region to attend.

A LIFELINE FOR MARRIAGES:

“Retrouvaille” is the name of a programme to help marriages needing support. It can also be helpful where a couple have separated or divorced but are willing to try again.
