The Bailieborough Poetry Prize 2015:

Entries are now being accepted for the annual Bailieborough poetry competition. This year’s event is an open competition and like last year there will be a prize of €250 for the winning poet. There will be a runner up prize and also a special prize for a poet living in the Cavan-Meath area. Social Day Centre:

The Bailieborough Social Day Centre resumes on Wednesday, 16th of September. A bus will be leaving the Community Centre at 1.15pm for an outing to Kilnaleck. Everyone is most welcome to come along.

 

Leisure Centre News:

10 year Adult Pool and Gym membership for €1000 (or 5 years for a couple). This offer is available for a limited time only.

‘Hope for Cian’:

The organising committee of the Tractor Run held on Sunday, July 19th last, would like to thank everyone who turned up on the day to support this worthy cause, also to the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle. A total of €1,900 was raised, thanks to the generosity of everyone who turned up to support Cian.

 

St. Vincent DePaul Annual Pilgrimage to Knock:

The St. Vincent DePaul Annual Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Saturday next, September 12th. A bus will be leaving from the Community Centre at 8.30am.

 

FREE KNOCKOUT TASTER

Library Craft Group;

Library Craft Group Knits for the Needy! If you want to see the wonderful work which is being carried out  by the  Library Craft Group then come to a display of hats for the homeless, baby suits for Aids sufferers in Malawi, knits for the orphanages in Malawi, the prizewinning ‘Wall Hanging’ completed by residents in Fairlawns Nursing Home and much more besides. Everyone is welcome until mid-September during Library opening hours.

 

Indoor Bowls:

Indoor Bowls takes place every Wednesday evening in the Community Centre, Chapel Road at 8.00pm. New members are always most welcome.

 

Bailieborough ‘Lend A Hand:

Garda vetted volunteers with identification are ready to assist and help the elderly in our community. If you have gardening jobs, hedge and grass cutting, tidying up or ant type of small repairs to get done then ‘Lend A Hand’, is at your doorstep. No job is too small for our volunteers and to avail of this service just call Ann at 042 9694825 from 9.00am to 2.00pm, Monday to Friday.

‘Pledge of the Metalmen’:

On Tuesday next, the 15th of September at 11.30 am there will be an unveiling of a piece of sculpture commissioned by Barry Linnane at the Library, Market Square. The name of the piece is the ‘Pledge of the Metalmen’ which celebrates the history of Bailieborough and in particular Bailieborough Foundry. All welcome and especially former employees of Bailieboro Foundry who would have a great interest in this project.

 

Bailieborough Garden Group:

Resumes after our summer break on Monday, 14th September at 8pm in Fox’s lounge, Bailieborough with judging of flowers and vegetables grown from seeds distributed in February. Winner will receive the RHS Silver spoon. New members always welcome.

Library Parent and Toddler Group every Wednesday 10.30am-12pm; Citizens Information every Tuesday 1.30pm-2.30pm on a first come first served basis; Craft Group every Friday 10.30am-1pm; Book Club 6pm-7pm last Thursday of every month; Lit Lab writers group every second Tuesday. Fox’s Irish Dancing Classes:

Knockbride Fun Run:

Tunnyduff N.S. Parents Association are organising a 5k fun-run as well as a 10k run on Sunday, 13th Sept at 1.00pm. Registration takes place from 11.30am onwards at Tunnyduff Community Hall. Refreshments will be available after the run. All support will be greatly appreciated.

 

 

Pilates

–Pilates have resumed in Trinity Hall behind the Presbyterian Church. Beginners at 6.15pm and mixed ability at 7.30pm. New members welcome. To book please call Anne at 087 2601454.

 

Beckscourt Mother and Toddler Group:

The new Leader Rural Development Programme will commence shortly. As a first step in developing the Local Development Strategy, a series of public consultations around the new Leader Programme will be held in various venues around the county. National Grandparents Pilgrimage:

The 9th National Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, September 13th. Blessing of the Sick will take place at 2.30pm and Mass will be at 3.00pm—with the Chief Celebrant being Bishop Brendan Leahy, Bishop of Limerick. Guest soloist, Fr. Liam Lawton. Everyone welcome. Children are invited to compose a prayer for their grandparents and send it to: C.G.A. Office, Castlebar Street, Westport, Co. Mayo. All prayers will be displayed in the Basilica and blessed during Mass.

 

 Walk, Jog Or Run….

Exercising Is FUN! Every Monday and Wednesday evenings at 8pm join us at Bailieborough Community Centre! All welcome—no matter what your fitness levels are!. Ok folks, join us to run, jog or walk and most importantly tea, biscuits, fruit and chat afterwards.

Co. Cavan Citizens Information Outreach Service will resume in Bailieboro (The Library) on Tuesday, 8th September from 1.30pm – 2.30pm. This is a weekly service.  Any enquiries 076 1075200.

Local meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous are held in: The Health Centre, Kells Road on Wednesdays at 8.30pm.

 

The Samaritans:

The Samaritans have a new Freephone number: 116 123 for people who are struggling to cope. The line is open and free 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
