/in News /by PetraSt. Annes: It is great to see people back at Mass. There has been a lovely upbeat atmosphere since the restrictions were partially lifted. People are glad to be able to get out again, see old friends, have a chat, pray together as a community and receive the Eucharist.
St. Anne’s in Bailieborough is a large Church and under the restrictions, it will be able to accommodate up to 100 family units at the weekend. It is not intended to put a booking system in place because the management system worked well last Autumn/Winter, when the Church was last open.
Internal work has begun in St. Anne, Killann and it will remain closed for the next month or so. The Killann Saturday Vigil Mass at 8.30pm is transferred to St. Patricks , Shercock. A second Mass will be celebrated in Shercock on Sundays at 10.00am in addition to the 11.30am Mass. The extra Sunday Mass is a temporary measure and will be reviewed after a month. It is being introduced because St. Patrick’s is a smaller Church and Mass attendance is restricted to 50 people. The extra Mass is to facilitate the safe attendance of as many as possible. There is no need to book a place. If the Church reaches capacity, people may listen to Mass in their cars on the radio system and receive Holy Communion outside.
The Bishop has reminded us, that the Sunday Mass obligation is still suspended. People who are nervous about returning to weekend Mass, might like to consider attending, a quieter weekday Mass as an alternative.
People are asked to co-operate with the ushers in each Church. People are also asked to respect the social distancing and to only sit in the seat assigned to you. You are asked to wear a mask and to sanitise on entering and exiting the building at the sanitising points. If you are feeling unwell, please stay at home.
It is good to be back. We especially encourage our young families to get back into the habit of coming to Mass. It will do us a power of good to be together and to worship God together as a community of Faith. Welcome back!!
Funerals: Fifty mourners permitted at a Funeral. Related events, either before or after, should not take place.
Weddings: Fifty guests permitted at a wedding. For celebrations/receptions, a maximum of six people for indoor gatherings and fifteen people for outdoor gatherings. The number allowed attend a wedding reception indoors, rises to 25 from June 7th. (This means that while 50 guests may attend a Wedding Mass, a much smaller number may only attend the reception).
For the first month that Masses return, parishioners ought to consider attending one of the daily Masses, rather than a weekend Mass—to help ease the pressure.
The Bishop has granted permission for the resumption of Baptisms, with a limited attendance confined to parents and godparents.
Mass can be heard on the radio at 107.8FM in the Bailieborough area and 92FM in Shercock.
All Masses and Parish Funerals can be viewed on the Parish webcam or can be heard by tuning in the radio to 107.8 F.M.

Link Credit Union: Link Credit Union have launched their ‘Step Up’ Grant initiative. All members who are finishing 6th class in primary school and continuing to 1st year in 2nd level education are eligible to enter the competition. 10 grants of €200 will be awarded. Application forms are available in the Bailieborough and Kingscourt offices or to download from the website www.linkcu.ie. Competition closes 11thJune 2021.
Bailieborough Tidy Towns: Many thanks to all helpers who washed and painted poles and bollards in the town. Trojan work. We hope to finish job this week.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and extended family and friends on the death of Kathy (Kathleen) McCabe Drumacarrow, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully, in her 101st year, at Fairlawns Nursing Home , Bailieborough on Saturday, May 8th, 2021. Kathy was predeceased by her parents Owen and Maryann, her brothers Jack, James and Phil and her sister Rose.
Kathy’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Monday, May 10th and afterwards, her remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
Lend-A-Hand, Bexcourt, Bailieborough: ‘Lend-A-Hand’ is a group of volunteers, who provide citizens who need assistance with small jobs around the house—this can range from changing a light bulb, to helping out with domestic chores. Call 042 9694825 or email Gabriele at : bexcourt89@gmail.com
Bailieborough Group of Parishes: The good news this week is that we can finally return to worship in our church buildings! So this Sunday 23rd May there will be services at 9:30am in Mullagh and Shercock, 10:45am in Bailieborough, and 12 noon in Knockbride. Our online service will continue in a simpler form until 30th May on Facebook and Youtube. Face masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing will still be required on Sunday mornings. John Paul Award: A group of students from Bailieborough Community School received their ‘John Paul Award’ Medals at the 9.30am Mass on Tuesday last, May 18th. To achieve this prestigious Award, these young people volunteered in their Parish and local community. Congratulations to: Leanne Fitzsimons Ledwith, Alison Fisher, Glenn O’Sullivan, Luke O’Sullivan, Maria Brady, Cailin Smith, Shannon Taylor, Caitlin Halpin, Kate Comey, Natalia Stanik and Shauni McCullagh.
May—Month of the Rosary: The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto on the Virginia Road for the month of May, at 7.30pm except for Saturdays. All are welcome to come along and join in. Two metre distancing and wearing of face masks will be strictly observed.
Car Treasure Hunt: A ‘Car Treasure Hunt’ in aid of the Alzheimer Society will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, June 7th from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. The event will start from St. Mary’s Car Park, Tierworker. Entry fee is €20 and teas and chats afterwards. All welcome.
Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to daughter Mairead (Kierans), son in law Joe, grandchildren Louise, Kevin and Laura, great grandchildren Katelyn, Abbey, Amy, Layla, Pippa, Danny, Sophia and Olivia and extended family, neighbours and friends on the death of Rose Smith (nee McCabe) Curkish Bailieborough Co Cavan who passed away peacefully at the Lisdarn Unit Cavan on Saturday, May 15th, 2021. Rose was predeceased by her husband Tom and sister Peggy.
Rose’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Monday, May 17th following which, her remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
Bailieborough Library:Library – The Library re-opened on Tuesday May 11th and will open Tuesdays 10am-4.30pm; 5.30pm-8.30pm; and every other day at 10am-1.15pm; 2.15pm-5.15pm (excl Sundays). Printing and borrowing services but no public computer facilities in this phase. Lots of new stock arriving!

Our delivery service to members of our community who are vulnerable/cocooning will continue for the foreseeable future.

/in News /by PetraSt. Annes: Returning to Mass: This week public Masses resume throughout the country and in our Parish. It is good news and many will be glad to get back and be able to pray together as a community and receive the sacrements.

Killann Church will remain closed because the long-awaited internal revamp of the Church is about to begin and will take a month or so to complete. To facilitate Parishioners in the Killann and Shercock area, from Saturday 15th May, a Vigil Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s, Shercock at 8.30pm. Bailieborough Shamrocks: Boot Plan: Is your house like many others with old football boots taking up space ?! With most shops closed, now is the ideal time for community spirit to kick in while clearing out space at the same time ! If you want to get rid of those boots that are too small and won’t be used again in your house, why not bring them down to the club, Mark Gilsenan will put them in a cage here and if any child/children need a pair of boots they’re welcome to take a pair that fits ! /in News /by PetraHappy Retirement Pat: Bailieborough Development Association want to wish Pat Murtagh, General Services Supervisor, Cavan County Council, a well deserved long and Happy retirement. Pat has been working from the Business Centre since renovations at Bailieborough Courthouse began in 2017.
Pat joined Cavan County Council in 1983 as a Craftworker in the Area Office in Bailieborough. He was promoted to a General Services Supervisor in 2005 following the retirement of his predecessor John Coyle. He continued to work in the Area Office in Bailieborough until the establishment of the Cootehill/Bailieborough Municipal District in 2015. He has attended at the Courthouse in Cootehill and The Business Centre.
A real family man, married to Marguerite with two wonderful sons, he has also managed to successfully run the family farm in his spare time, even finding time in his lunch hour to keep up with activities in the Marts online. A great fan of the Weather and Football he rarely misses a trip to Breffni Park. A man of many talents his Irish Dancing classes should prove worthwhile as Pat looks forward to enjoying the freedom to travel again with his beloved Marguerite and many friends.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Mary, children: Vincent, Veronica, Anthony, Aidan and Martin on the death of John Anthony Clarke, late of Lakeland, Tunnyduff, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 25th , 2021. John Anthony will be sadly missed by his loving family, daughters-in-law Patrice, Geraldine, Annette and Rosie and son-in-law Aodhagan, his adored grandchildren Rachel, Conor, AnnaMay, Hugh, Darren, Kieran, Chloe, Aoife and Darragh, sisters MaryRose, Philomena, Kathleen, Pauline and Margaret, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and many friends. John Anthony was pre-deceased by his parents John and Kathleen and brothers Eugene and Paddy.

Moybologue Historical Society: After spending the autumn and winter under wraps, the covers are off at Moybologue for Spring 2021 and we are delighted with the finished historic stonework conservation project funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Happy Retirement Pat: Bailieborough Development Association want to wish Pat Murtagh, General Services Supervisor, Cavan County Council, a well deserved long and Happy retirement. Pat has been working from the Business Centre since renovations at Bailieborough Courthouse began in 2017.
Pat joined Cavan County Council in 1983 as a Craftworker in the Area Office in Bailieborough. He was promoted to a General Services Supervisor in 2005 following the retirement of his predecessor John Coyle. He continued to work in the Area Office in Bailieborough until the establishment of the Cootehill/Bailieborough Municipal District in 2015. He has attended at the Courthouse in Cootehill and The Business Centre.
A real family man, married to Marguerite with two wonderful sons, he has also managed to successfully run the family farm in his spare time, even finding time in his lunch hour to keep up with activities in the Marts online. A great fan of the Weather and Football he rarely misses a trip to Breffni Park. A man of many talents his Irish Dancing classes should prove worthwhile as Pat looks forward to enjoying the freedom to travel again with his beloved Marguerite and many friends.

St. Annes: Returning to Mass: The Government on Thursday last, announced a plan for the relaxation of restrictions in the coming weeks. The following is a summary of the relaxationsof restrictions relevant to Church activities: From Monday next, May 11th: Public Mass returns. It is advised that other religious ceremonies, such as Communions and Confirmations, should not take place at this time.
Funerals: Fifty mourners permitted at a Funeral. Related events, either before or after, should not take place.
Weddings: Fifty guests permitted at a wedding. For celebrations/receptions, a maximum of six people for indoor gatherings and fifteen people for outdoor gatherings. The number allowed attend a wedding reception indoors, rises to 25 from June 7th. (This means that while 50 guests may attend a Wedding Mass, a much smaller number may only attend the reception).
For the first month that Masses return, parishioners ought to consider attending one of the daily Masses, rather than a weekend Mass—to help ease the pressure.
More information on how the Parish will manage these arrangements, will be announced next weekend.
The Bishop has granted permission for the resumption of Baptisms, with a limited attendance confined to parents and godparents.
Mass can be heard on the radio at 107.8FM in the Bailieborough area and 92FM in Shercock.
All Masses and Parish Funerals can be viewed on the Parish webcam or can be heard by tuning in the radio to 107.8 F.M.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Mary, children: Vincent, Veronica, Anthony, Aidan and Martin on the death of John Anthony Clarke, late of Lakeland, Tunnyduff, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 25th , 2021. John Anthony will be sadly missed by his loving family, daughters-in-law Patrice, Geraldine, Annette and Rosie and son-in-law Aodhagan, his adored grandchildren Rachel, Conor, AnnaMay, Hugh, Darren, Kieran, Chloe, Aoife and Darragh, sisters MaryRose, Philomena, Kathleen, Pauline and Margaret, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and many friends. John Anthony was pre-deceased by his parents John and Kathleen and brothers Eugene and Paddy.
John Anthony’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Brigid’s Church, Knockbride West on Wednesday, April 28th and following which, his remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
