/in News /by PetraFirst Communion : Congratulations to the children from St. Felim’s National School, who received their First Holy Communion last weekend.
Killann Church: Killann Church will be closed for the next two weeks to facilitate internal and external painting and to repair the main door. Saturday evening Mass will move to Shercock at 8.30pm. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Bishop Martin Hayes would like each Parish in the diocese to create a ‘Green Group’ to assess what small steps can be taken to respond to the environmental crisis. This might involve planting trees, flowerbeds or other initiatives. There are lovely parish grounds that are ideal for all sorts of possibilities. A meeting will be held in the Parish House on this Wednesday evening, September 22nd at 7.45pm for anyone interested in getting involved.
Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to son Peter, daughters Mary and Rosena, grandsons Ben and Patrick, granddaughters Louise, Rebecca and Sueann, sons-in-law Brian and Allan, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends on the passing of Margaret Brady (nee Nulty) Kells Road and late of Micks Bar, Market Square, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away on Monday 13th September 2021, peacefully at her residence. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Michael, son Michael Junior and daughter-in-law Caroline.
Margaret’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Wednesday, September 15th and following which, Margaret’s remains were laid to rest in St. Annes Cemetery.

Bailieborough Creative Hub: After having a very successful week with the ‘Poetry Town’ event, Bailieborough Creative Hub launched their exhibition in the Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff entitled “Under Cavan Skies” for Culture Night.
The exhibition will run until the end of the month in the museum.

Rainbow Tractor Run: The Rainbow Tractor Club are having a run on Sunday the 26th September from Killinkere Leisure Centre at 12 noon for the Special Baby Care Unit in Cavan General Hospital. Registration is from 10.30 a.m onwards. Motorbikes, vintage cars and all tractors welcome. All support would be appreciated.
‘Cherished Captures’: Local photographer, Ollie Gargan’s first solo photo exhibition will be on view upstairs in the Library, to all members of the community until Tuesday, October 26th during Library opening hours. Current government Covid guidelines will be strictly adhered to. Well worth a visit!
Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.: Bailieborough Celtic AFC are looking for girls aged 9 to 13 years old, to expand and develop our girls soccer teams, currently at Under 11 and Under 13 level. Bailieborough Cancer Fund: A massive “Thank you ” and congratulations to James, Conor and Derek McElwaine who climbed Croagh Patrick twice in five hours to raise much needed funds for Bailieborough Cancer Comfort. The total raised was €8362.50

/in News /by PetraPoetry Town: Mairéad Donnellan, will read her specially written poem, commissioned by Poetry Ireland, during the Poetry Town event, at a gathering in the Bailie Hotel, on Thursday, September 16th, from 7-9pm. Readings by other local poets and music.
This short piece will be filmed in Bailieborough and will include several guests poets and figures from the area.
The film will be set to music especially written for the poem and scenes will be from areas in the town and nearby beauty and heritage spots.
Pocket Poems: Bailieborough Creative Hub: On Instagram, film shown locally and printed poems.
Pocket poems is about 12 poets from Bailieborough Creative Hub reading local work from different locations in the town area.
These are available on Instagram as separate readings posted each day until 18th September, and as a complete film to be shown locally during Culture week/weekend in Bailieborough Credit Union/Bailie Hotel.
The poems will also be available in hard copy printed booklets and will be given to all businesses and handed out to the community on Culture Night (17th September) at 6pm.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Catherine, sons Kieran and Neil, daughters Collette and Deirdre, beloved grandchildren Pierce, Ronan, Bevin, Tristan, Kiera, Oisin, Cadain, Clionadh, Rian and Caomhan on the death of P.J. Shannon, Lakeland, Tunnyduff, Bailieborough, Co.Cavan, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 3rd, 2021. P.J. was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Alice and his brother Francie. Sadly missed by his brother Andy, sisters Maire, Cathy and Mary Alice, sons-in-law Mano and Paul and daughters-in-law Louise and Kerrie. brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, neices, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
P.J’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Bridget’s Church, Knockbride West on Wednesday, September 8th and afterwards, his remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
Cavan Sports Partnership: Kids Bikefest, coming to Bailieborough!
To Celebrate National Bike Week 2021 we have Bikefest events taking place in Bailieborough on Saturday next, 18th September at the Bailieborough Community School.
The Bikefest will provide fun training, skills, obstacles and bike checks. Times from 11.30am—12 noon (5—8 year olds) and 12 noon to 1.00pm ( 9 + years).

Meath and Woodford Green, Essex, who passed away on Friday morning, September 3rd , at his home, aged 88 years. Loman will be laid to rest in the UK.

Eucharistic Adoration in St. Annes: Eucharistic Adoration was suspended during the Pandemic. As restrictions lift, it is hoped to graduallt restore this devotion in St. Annes. Eucharistic Adoration will initally be held each Tuesday from 10.00am to 11.00am. As the weeks go by, the times and day will be reviewed based on feedback from participants.

Poetry Town runs across 20 chosen towns in Ireland from the 10th to the 18th of September 2021. This is the inaugural year of this celebration of poetry and County Cavan was lucky enough to have two towns, Bailieborough and Cootehill taking part.
The following is the schedule of events for Bailieborough:

Kate Ennals—Reading/Open Mic: Saturday, 11th September 3-5pm (TBC). Bailie Hotel, Bailieborough (outdoor dining area).
Kate Ennals (known for Over the Edge Sessions in Cavan) will invite two Northern poets (TBC) to join her in a reading/open mic poetry session to mark Culture Week on Saturday, 11th September 2021. Kate will then host an open mic session for the community. A music interlude by Elena Duff will add to the performance!

Only the child concerned and parents may attend these ceremonies, which will also be broadcast on the webcam and radio.

Cavan who passed away peacefully, at home, following a short illness, surrounded by his loving wife and family on Thursday, 2nd September 2021 . Eymard was predeceased by his sisters Teresa and Susie.
Eymard’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Brigid’s Church, East Knockbride on Saturday, September 4th and afterwards, his remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Cavan, who passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 2nd 2021. Philip was predeceased by his father Vincent.

Wanted: Chestnuts!!!!: Bailieborough Community School’s pupils would be very grateful if anyone is able to collect chestnuts for them. They need them to make adjustments to their ‘Junk Kouture’ outfit which will be recorded by RTE on October 1st for the final of the event.
