/in News /by PetraParish Walk and Gathering: Sunday, July 23rd; The Parish Pastoral Council has designated Sunday, July 23rd as a Parish Day. People are invited to meet at the Community Centre at 1.30pm to participate in a leisurely 3km Walk from the Community Centre to the Brothers Graves in the wood and back again to the Community Centre for refreshments. Those who can’t participate in the walk are invited to the Community Centre for refreshments, music and chat at 3.00pm. This invitation is open to all age groups and all in our Parish community. Please let people know and reach out the hand of friendship to those who may need transport.

Art Exhibition: Bailieborough Library is delighted to host an exhibition of artwork by local man Bobby Coote, star of the production ‘The Man Who Wanted to Fly’. The Exhibition will remain on view until the end of July during Library opening hours! All are welcome!

Wednesday, July 12th : Deerpark Forest, Virginia: Easy walk, 1—1.5 hrs. Approx. Leaving Tesco carpark at 6.50pm. Walk commencing at Virginia Rugby Club entrance to Deerpark Forest at 7.15pm.
Wednesday, July 19th; Girley Bog: Medium Walk. Approx. 1.5 hours. Leaving Tesco carpark at 6.35pm. Meet at Cloncat Sevice Station, 8.5kms from Kells on the Clonmellon Road N 52 at 7.10pm. Walk commencing at Girley Bog at 7.15pm.

Blessing of the Graves, 2023: The Blessing of the Graves will take place in St. Annes Cemetery, Bailieborough on Sunday, September 3rd at 12 noon.
The Blessing of the Graves will take place in Killann Old Cemetery on Saturday, August 19th at 7.00pm and the Blessing of the Graves will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Shercock on Sunday, August 20th, immediately after 11.30am, Mass.
Bailieborough Library: FREE library book bag available at the Library for all children starting school in September 2023.
This month, The Bailieborough Library Reading Group is reading ‘Queen Bee’ by Ciara Geraghty.
The next Book Club meeting will take place in the Library on Tuesday, July 25th at 6.30pm. Everybody is welcome and copies of the book are available in Bailieborough Library.
Fusion Dance School FREE Hip Hop dance workshops on in the Library on Thursday July 27th and Friday July 28th from 2.30pm-3.45pm for children aged 8-12 years. This is part our #summerstar event program. Places will book out very quickly – ring 042 9665779 to book a place.
Mattie’s Fundraiser: Mattie’s Fundraiser In Aid of Cancer Charities. Join us on Sunday, 30th July for a local Cancer Charity Fundraiser in honour of the late, Mattie Cahill. Taking place at The Royal Breffni, Tierworker, Bailieborough and it will include an easy walk at 11.30am from the Royal Breffni. A ‘Tractor Run’ will also be part of the day, along with an auction , with over 40 lots entered. Later on that evening, ‘Reilly and the Moonrockers’ will entertain those present and there will be an award for the ‘Best Jiving Couple’. Also on the night, there will be a raffle, with loads of great prizes. All welcome.
Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the first Thursday of each month on Thursday, August 3rd 2023 from 2pm-4.30pm. No appointment is necessary.
FREE study space and WIFI available here for all who are in the middle of studying. Other services for students include printing, photocopying, local history/history resources, reference books, public PCs, staff advice, comfortable warm spaces. All are welcome!
Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C: Bailieboro Celtic are hosting a ‘Family Fun Day’ on Sunday, August 6th from 12 noon to 3.00pm at the Vale grounds. Bouncy Castles, 5-a side games, Ducking Chair, Cross Bar Challenge and a BBQ are just some of the events taking place. All welcome.
Absolutely huge win for Bailieboro Celtic’s Senior Men’s Side on last Thursday night as they defeated second place Walshestown F.C by 4—3 at The Vale, to keep their undefeated run going and remain top of the table. Brilliant performance from everyone involved, great resilience shown by the lads to stay in the game and win this very important fixture. Bailieboro remain top of the Division 2 table with 7 wins out of 7.
Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to daughters, Ann Marie (Jim), Patricia (John), sons Aidan (Barbara) and Paul (Karen), grandchildren Ethan, Cian, Aidan, Mark, Emma, Kyle, Killian and Teegan, great grandchild Arabella, sisters Anna, Bridgie, Marian and Olive, brothers Tony and Donal, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends on the death of Kathleen (Connie) Ennis, (nee Keappock), Cloverhill, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, who passed away on Saturday, 8th July 2023, peacefully at FairlawnsNursing Home, Bailieborough, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Dennis and granddaughter Aleah.
Kathleen’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church , Bailieborough on Monday, July 10th and afterwards, Kathleen’s remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

We have been selected as one of the Charities in the Tesco Store.
We are currently fund raising to buy 2 new defibrillators to replace the current defibrillators at Day Break and The Carry Out.
Please support this Tesco Token Collection.
Ten years ago, Bailieborough Red Cross supplied two public access defibrillators and heated wall mounted cases. As these machines are now at the end of their useful lives and spares and servicing are no longer available, they need to be replaced. The Tesco Community Funds will help add to our fundraising efforts.

Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife, Myrnie and daughters, Valerie and Shirley on the death of Paddy O’Brien, (Sandymount Avenue, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and formerly of Aughavas, Co. Leitrim and Bailieborough, Co. Cavan), who passed away on Wednesday, July 5th , 2023, peacefully at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. Paddy will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, his daughters, sons-in-law James and Victor, his adored grandsons Niall and Tom, sisters Nelly, Patsy and Josie, brother-in- law Michael, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
During his time in Bailieborough, Paddy was Chairman of the Bailieborough Co-Op. Paddy was a man before his time and was responsible for the many projects that Bailieborough Co-Op developed during his time here. Paddy made an enormous contribution in creating long term employment in Bailieborough and the surrounding areas and the people of Bailieborough will be forever grateful for his foresight and businness sense.
Paddy’s Funeral Mass took place in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Donnybrook, on Tuesday, July 11th and afterwards, Paddy’s remains were laid to rest in Dardistown Cemetery.
Walk, Jog or Run: Run, Walk or Jog is back for the lovely bright evenings at 8pm at the Chapel car park, Lakeshore, Bailieborough on every Monday and Wednesday. It’s a fun, free activity, all newcomers welcome. Other activities will be added as the weeks go on, like open water swimming, cycling and kayaking. All welcome.
