/in News /by Liz FlemingAnother New Local Bus Route: This new route announcement follows the introduction of the Local Link route 171 in July and the new Regional 170 bus route last month.
A New Local Link bus to connect Cootehill – Shercock – Bailieborough – Virginia and Cavan Town has been announced.
The 108B which will be added to the East Cavan network in the coming weeks. .
This new route will link Cootehill to Shercock, before going onto Bailieborough and Virginia and once in Virginia it will meet the 109x Bus Eireann service where passengers can transfer to go to Cavan Town. Schedules and timetables , will be announced shortly.
Forthcoming Roadworks on the Kells Road:
Works will be starting on a new footpath and pedestrian crossing at Barora Park on Kells Road, on Monday next, 18th September. People are advised to slow down and be careful, while these works are taking place.
New Bus Service. A new bus service linking Cavan and Dundalk has been launched.
Bus Éireann Route 170, Dundalk – Carrickmacross – Bailieborough – Cavan and back again. Running six times daily. This new service should be of great benefit to all members of our community.
Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to loving wife, Anne, son Patrick and daughter Jennifer, daughter in law, Grace and grandchildren, James, Eva and Sophie, sisters Maureen (McMahon), Eilish (McLoughlin), Helen (Boylan), Patricia (Doherty) and Rosemary Reilly, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and many, many friends, on the death of Aidan Reilly, Killagriffe, Tierworker, Kells, Co Meath and formerly of Edenagully, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, who passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday 7th September 2023. Aidan was predeceased by his beloved parents, Patrick and Mary-Anne and sister Kathleen (Carolan).
Aidan’s Funeral Mass took place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, on Sunday, September 10th with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Community Centre: Due to accommodation issues, in St. Annes Primary School, a classroom has been moved to the Community Centre until October. This will restrict the use of the Community Centre. Apologies for the short—term inconvenience.
Congratulations and Well Done: Congratulations to Bailieborough Shamrocks stalwarts, Mickey ‘The Rock’ Clinch and Shane Dillon and the Cavan Gaelic Masters on winning the Challenge Cup Final on Saturday last, overcoming Sligo in St Croans GAA ground Roscommon by the scoreline of Cavan 0-14 v 1-10 Sligo.
Bailieborough Library:The next Bookclub Meeting is on Tuesday, September 26th at 6.30pm and the book to be discussed is ‘The Appeal’ by Janice Hallett! New members are always welcome and copies of the book are available at the Library desk.
Indoor Bowling: Indoor Bowling resumes in the Community Centre, Bailieborough on Wednesday, September 13th at 8.00pm. New members welcome and free tuition for beginners will be provided.
Bailieborough Group of Parishes: Harvest Services: The following are the Bailieborough Group of Parishes, Harvest Service times and locations: Sunday, September 17th, Mullagh at 3.00pm, Sunday, September 24th, Bailieborough at 7.30pm and Sunday, October 8th, 7.30pm in Knockbride. Open invitation and all are very welcome to come along and join in!
Bailieborough Craft Group: The Group meets every Friday from 10am-12.30pm in the Library and new members are always welcome regardless of talents or skills.
Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the first Thursday of each month on Thursday 5th October 2023 from 2pm-4.30pm. No appointment is necessary.
FREE study space and WIFI available here for all who are in the middle of studying. Other services for students include printing, photocopying, local history/history resources, reference books, public PCs, staff advice, comfortable warm spaces. All are welcome!
Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C: Bailieboro Celtic in conjunction with Cavan Sports Partnership and the F.A.I. present a ‘Football For All’ six week programme for children with a disability, aged 6 to 16 years of age, commencing on Wednesday, September 20th , from 6pm to 7pm, at the Bailieboro Celtic playing grounds at the Vale, Bailieborough. Culture Night, 2023: As part of the National Culture Night, events have been planned for the whole of the county. Local events taking place on Friday, September 22nd include: Bailieborough Creative Hub will host their new group exhibition, ‘Perspective’, this Culture Night.

POETRY S.O.S. CLINIC: Hosted by poet and poetry pharmacist, Mairéad Donnellan.
Each personal ‘clinic’ is ten/fifteen minutes long and the entire clinic will last just over three hours. All participants will also receive a 10% discount on Vital Signs Publication. Bookings: (042) 966 5779. Taking place in Bailieborough Library from 5pm to 8.30pm.
Moybologue Historical Society: Are holding a talk on the subject of ‘Parish Missions in the Diocese of Kilmore’. The talk will be given by Fr. Ultan McGoohan and will take place in Tierworker Community Hall at 8.30pm. All welcome.

Walk, Jog or Run: Now that the evenings are getting short again we will be starting back, running and walking for all levels, beginners and advanced. Fun and free, social gathering in the Chapel car park, Lake Shore, Bailieborough at 8pm. All old and new people welcome. It’s a well lit up run. Stretch before and afterwards, every Monday and Wednesday evening.
East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 11th September 2023
Under 17/15/13/11/9/7;
Some of our U15s had a good final outing with Cavan U15 Development Squad v Longford on the Polo Grounds at Kingspan Breffni on Saturday last. Club U15/17 training on Monday at 7 on the astro.
The U11s await the final round of the Monaghan U11 league v Inniskeen hopefully over the next couple of weeks.
Under 7 and Under 9s will join the new after school programme starting this week.
After school hurling; We are excited to start our after school hurling programme this week in Killinkere, Bailieborough, Mullagh and Shercock. All are welcome to get their first taste of hurling at a local venue at a time that may be suitable. All info below.
The week ahead : Wednesday; After school hurling, Bailieborough Shamrocks astro, U7 3pm, U9 4pm, U12 5pm.
Thursday; After school hurling Mullagh Community Sports Centre, U7 2.30, U9 3.30, U12 4.30.
Friday; After school hurling Shercock AC, U7 2.50, U9 3.50, U12 4.50.
After school Hurling for boys and girls in Bailieborough begins on Wednesday, September 13th for seven weeks on the Astro at Bailieborough Shamrocks G.A.A. Grounds in St. Annes Park. Under 7 from 3pm, Under 9 from 4pm and Under 12 from 5pm. Equipment supplied but if you have your own, then please bring it along. More information can be had by contacting Willie on 086 164 9280.
