Congratulations and well done to local councillor, Niamh Smyth T.D, who on Sunday last was elected to Dail Eireann to represent the Cavan/Monaghan constituency, on her first attempt. Despite being only added to the ticket at the last minute, Niamh and her team did Trojan work canvassing leading up to the election and it all paid off when she won the last seat in the constituency after a nail biting 10th count against outgoing local T.D., Joe O’Reilly. Niamh is the first ever female TD from Cavan to be elected to the Dail and all wish her well in her endeavours.

Gerry Barry RIP;
It is with great sadness we learn of the passing of Gerry Barry, President Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA, uncle to Anthony and the Barry family Bailieborough. Gerry has been a long-time supporter of both Bailieborough Shamrocks and more recently East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club taking great joy in watching the Barry clan excel on the field in both hurling, football and Camogie.
Always available to help and support both clubs in whatever capacity he could he will be sadly missed by both clubs.
