Bailieborough Group of Parishes

The following services and events will be happening over the Harvest season at the Bailieborough Group of Parishes.  As ever, it’s an open house and so all are invited and welcome to come along.

Saturday 24th September: 3pm Bailieborough Hall: Messy Church.  Fun, craft, celebration time and food. Everyone is invited – young and old alike, adults, children, teenagers, carers, grandparents. Come as a family or come on your own. Children must bring an adult with them.

Sunday 25th September: 3pm Mullagh Church, Speaker Rev Nick Jones

Sunday 2nd October: 7:30pm Shercock Church, Speaker Philip McKinley (Chaplin to DCU).

Sunday 9th October: 8pm Knockbride Church, Speaker Rev Alastair Donaldson.

Bailieborough Community School Parents Association

The Bailieborough Community School Parents Association are holding a Tractor, Vintage Car and Motorcycle Run on Sunday next, September 25th in aid of the Student Canteen Upgrade Fund. Registration and refreshments from 11am at the Community School. The Run will commence at 12 noon. Admission fee is €20 per entrant and all entrants must be over 18 years of age. HARVEST DISPLAY

The annual Harvest Display will be in the sanctuary next weekend in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough, and in St. Patrick’s Church, Shercock. The display will be blessed at the weekend Masses and prayers of thanksgiving will be offered for the natural gifts God has given for us to enjoy and protect in this world.

 

BAILIEBOROUGH TIDY TOWN’S GROUP – MOVING FORWARD

 A meeting will take place on Tuesday, 4th October in the Bailie Hotel at 8pm sharp. Aimed at developing the group and forming a new committee for 2017. If you are concerned by Bailieboro town and surrounding environment, please attend. New ideas and assistance very welcome.

Lakelands Arch Club

WE’RE BACK!!!!!New season of our arch club is starting again on the last Wednesday of every month from 7-9pm in the Bailieborough Business Centre, Shercock Road. Wednesday, September 28th (fun and games), October 26th (Halloween crafts night) and November 30th (Christmas craft night). December date to be confirmed. BAILIEBOROUGH GARDENING GROUP

Resumes on Monday next, 26th September at 8pm in Fox’s Bar and Lounge, Main Street, with a talk by Barry Kavanagh on pre winter tidy up in your garden and seed swopping.  All welcome.

HOPE

Ten years ago John had a liver transplant as a direct result of addiction to drugs and alcohol. Today, John devotes all his time to bringing hope to those who maybe in need—especially the homeless, those suffering from addictions, suicide, self-harmers and people with eating disorders.  Come and hear his life changing story and his message of hope on Wednesday, 21st September in the Bailie Hotel at 7.30pm.

 

Bailieborough Mental Health Association

The Cootehill Pony Club are holding their Annual Pony Drivers and Friends Memorial Drive 2016 in aid of the Bailieborough Mental Health Association and the Cavan Autism Parents Support Group on Sunday next, September 25th in Ballyconnell, commencing at 2.00pm. Barbeque, Raffle and Auction afterwards in ‘Lizzie Buggies’, Ballyconnell. Everyone welcome.

Local Data Needed

 Bailieborough Development Association is in the process of compiling a database with all community groups contact details in the area. If you are involved with any group as a member or a volunteer, be it sports, keep fit, community employment, youth work, anything at all, please call 042-969-4716  with the contact details for the group or email bda@bailieborough.com, don’t think that somebody else will call with the details. This database will be a valuable resource for the whole community, and will help us all communicate with each other on matters involving our community.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Ltd

On August 19th we held our annual Forest Walk, and are delighted to say that donations received amounted to €1080. To all who braved the wet evening to walk with us and to those who donated in any way we sincerely thank you all.

Bailieborough Community Bowls

Bailieborough Community Bowls have resumed in the Community Centre, Chapel road, on Wednesday evenings at 8.00pm. All members are requested to attend and new members are most welcome.

Library

Education Guidance for all adults at the Library at 3pm on first Tuesday of each month. Free service run by ETB. Information on courses available, funding and grants.

Parent, Baby and Toddler group: Weekly meeting at Bailieborough Library.

Bailieborough Library Parent, Baby and Toddler Group has proven to be a vital life line for all stay-at-home parents who may be new to the area and wish to get out of the house and make new friends. There is a huge range of toys for children to play with, while parents can enjoy a cup of tea and chat.

The group meets at the Library Arts space every Wednesday at 10.30am-12pm. Why not join their Facebook Group and keep up to date with news and events.

Bus leaves from the Community Centre at 1.30pm on Wednesday, 21st September to go to Kilnaleck.

Well-Being’ Workshop

A ‘Well-Being’ Workshop will take place in Bailieborough Business Centre on Saturday next, 24th September from 10-5pm.  A day of fun and positivity – importance of looking after your mental health.  Why you need to put yourself first!  Lunch will be served. Speech and Drama Classes

Speech and Drama Classes take place on Saturdays in the Community Centre, Bailieborough and also in Tunnyduff Community Hall. The Bailieborough Poetry Festival and Poetry Competition 2016

This year we are celebrating the fourth Bailieborough Poetry festival and in keeping with previous festivals we have expanded the number of artists and poets coming to Bailieborough on the weekend of 6th -8th October.

The LitLab group of writers are hosting a weekend of readings, workshops, open mic sessions, art exhibitions, etc. The festival this year welcomes Gallery Press and this promises to be a significant addition to the 2016 festival.  One of the highlights of the weekend in past years has been the live adjudication of the shortlisted poets in The Bailieborough Poetry Competition. Full programme of events will be published next week.

WeightWatchers

WeightWatchers takes place each Monday in The BDA Shercock Rd, Bailieborough at 8pm and also each Monday in The Matt Talbot Hall Kingscourt 6pm to 7.15pm.

 

 

ASSIST (APPLIED SUICIDE INTERVENTION SKILL TRAINING):
