/in News /by Lee McDonnellOpening of New Lakeland Dairies Facility:
Over 80 new jobs are to be created locally with the opening of a new €36m milk drying facility in Bailieborough for Lakeland Dairies.
The farmer-owned co-operative currently employs more than 800 people. The new jobs are expected to come on stream by 2019.
Lakeland Dairies processes milk supplied by 2,400 farmers from both sides of the border with over 1.2 billion litres of farm produced milk annually. The company produces milk powder and butter, exporting products and ingredients to more than 80 countries worldwide.
This is the company’s third milk drying plant at its Bailieborough process centre. The new facility was blessed on Wednesday morning by Fr. Michael Router P.P., the Reverend Ian Horner and Reverend Daryl Edwards and it was officially opened on Thursday last by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed and is understood to be one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. During the building process over 180 construction workers were employed.
