Local Elections: Congratulations to Sarah O’Reilly and Paddy McDonald who were elected to Cavan County Council following the local elections on Friday last. Sarah topped the poll and was the first person to be elected in the Bailieborough/Cootehill area, while Paddy had to wait until the final count before securing his seat. In both Councillors, Bailieborough should have a strong voice on the Council for the next five years.
Also, well done to the election candidates of all parties who had removed most of their election posters by late Sunday evening.
Mass of Celebration in thanksgiving for the Ministry of Fr. Michael Router: A Special Mass will be held in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Friday evening, June 21st at 7.00pm, to congratulate Fr. Michael on his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Armagh and to celebrate his outstanding, selfless ministry in service of our Parish. Light refreshments will follow in St. Annes Community Centre, Chapel Road. All parishioners, from each of the Church areas in the Parish are most welcome to attend.
First Communion: The children in 2nd Class in St. Anne’s National School received their First Holy Communion on Saturday morning last in St. Annes Church. Bailieborough Shamrocks Senior Ladies are running a Fundraising Karaoke Night this Friday night, 31st May in Nixy’s ,The Square Bar. This promises to be a great night’s fun and entertainment. Let’s give our Senior Ladies the Support they deserve. Here’s hoping it will be a fantastic 2019 Season for our Senior Ladies. Everyone welcome.
Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to family Anne, Philip and Padraic, son-in-law Michael, daughter-in-law Treasa, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, brother-in-law Tony Clarke and extended family and friends on the death of Patsy Corcoran, Thomas Street, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully at Cavan General Hospital on Thursday, May 23rd. Patsy was predeceased by his wife Rosaleen and daughter Mary. Patsy’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough on Saturday, May 25th with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Bailieborough Tidy Towns: Bailieborough Tidy Towns appeals to all business, property and home owners in the Town area to give their property a makeover. Washing walls, footpath’s and painting would be appreciated. Judging begins in early June.

Mass for the Sick: A Mass for the Sick will take place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on this Friday evening, May 31st. This date coincides with the start of the Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The Mass will include the Sacrament of the Sick for those who feel in need of its healing graces at this time.

Cavan County Museum: New Opening Hours: Starting on Sunday next, 2nd June, the Cavan County Museum will open from 2 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. every Sunday for June, July, August and September. Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Diocesan and Parish Pilgrimage to Knock: This year’s Parish Pilgrimage will be to Knock and will take place on Sunday, June 16th—the same day as the Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage. Charity Walk/Run in Memory of Ann Clerkin, Curkish: A Charity Walk/Run in memory of Ann Clerkin, Curkish will take place on Saturday next, May 25th commencing at 11am from the B.D.A. Offices, Shercock Rd, Bailieborough. Funds raised will be donated to the Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Fund, Ataxia Foundation, Ireland and the Parkinsons Association of Ireland. Donations voluntary on the day and all are most welcome to attend.

Felim was predeceased by his parents Annie (nee Lynch) and Pat Kelly and brother-in-law Pat Timothy. Deeply regretted by retired Bishop Leo O’Reilly and the Clergy of the Diocese of Kilmore. Fr. Felim’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Castlerahan, on Saturday, May 4th followed by burial in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Bailieborough.

/in News /by Lee McDonnellBreak-in at Parochial House: In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Gardaí in Bailieborough responded to an alarm activation at the Parochial House in Bailieborough. On arrival it became apparent a break – in had occurred. A follow up search of the grounds was conducted which resulted in the arrest of a man. He has been charged in connection with the incident and appeared at a special sitting of Monaghan District Court on Sunday evening.

Annual Dog Walk: Bailieborough Veterinary Clinic are hosting their Annual Charity Dog Walk for the CSPCA on this Saturday 24th, November, commencing at 12pm. All welcome, with light refreshments and raffle prizes afterwards. Dogs must be on a lead during the event.
Bailieborough Leisure Centre: Board of Management Annual General Meeting: The Bailieborough Leisure Centre’s Board of Management’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday December 6th at 8.00pm in the Bailie Hotel.

‘Science of Cancer’ a talk in Bailieborough Library by Dr Jade Pollock next Thursday, November 22nd at 7pm! We’re all familiar with the word ‘Cancer’ but do we know how one of the deadliest diseases begins in cells? Come to the talk to learn about common myths about cancer, the role of pharmaceutical companies, ideal diet and learn about new advances in cancer research. All welcome to this FREE presentation!
St. Vincent DePaul ‘Fashion Show’: The Bailieborough branch of the St Vincent’s de Paul are hosting a ‘Fashion Show’ on Thursday 29th, of November at 7.30pm in the Hotel Bailie. Doors will open at 7.15pm and we will be modelling a vast array of the clothes, that are for sale in the shop on Main St. Tickets for the event are priced at €10 for a fantastic, fun filled evening ending with a disco after the Fashion Show until 12.30am. There will be an opportunity to buy after the show, so you can have a special Christmas outfit at a very reasonable price! We look forward to seeing you there and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival and Town Events.: Santa will be back in Bailieborough on the 1st of December at 5pm, sharp. After a great turn out last year, Santa has brought more helpers and promises you won’t be waiting as long in the cold. The Tractor Parade of Lights will be bringing him to town. There will be the turning-on of the town’s Christmas Lights—which were erected last week—Christmas Carolling and lots of other festive fun! Congratulations and Well Done: Congratulations and well done to the Bailieborough Shamrocks Minor Camogie team who defeated Drumgoon by 6.13 to 0.02 points in the Minor Division 2 Championship Final on Saturday last in Drumgoon. Well done to all the players, selectors, manager and sponsors on this great achievement.
Congratulations and well done also to the Shamrock’s Under 13 Boys Division 5 Team who defeated Mullahoran by 6—9 to 2—8 in the Championship Final on Tuesday last on the 3G Kingspan Breffni. Great achievement for the Shamrocks Club doing the double at this age group!

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 19th November 2018:
Under 7/9/11; All back in full swing now. Thursday in Kingscourt and Friday two groups in Bailieborough. Great to see lots of new men joining our ranks this season which is our tenth indoor season hurling. Jerseys/training tops from most of the local GAA clubs on show, Bailieborough Shamrocks, Kingscourt Stars, Killinkere, Knockbride, Shercock, Cuchulainns (Mullagh) all setting aside their football rivalry to give hurling a shot in the arm. All are very welcome. Indoors will run through all the way to early June 2019 so plenty of time to catch the bug! Equipment supplied to those who don’t have any yet while learning with us. No Kingscourt group training this coming Thursday as the local trade fair have the hall for this week. See you next week.
Under 13; These lads are now finished for the year. We would like to thank them for their commitment this year and congratulate those who won both Feile and U15 league this year. Lots of promise in this squad which we hope will continue into 2019. Thanks to our coaches Colin, Ben and Willie for all their work all year.
Under 15; These lads are now also finished for the year. We thank them for their continuing commitment and recognise their success in both Feile and in the Monaghan league and were only a puck of the ball away from the Cavan Championship. We look forward to 2019 with these lads. Well done.
