Bailieborough Shamrocks G.F.C.: “A Thank You to all our Donors”

As Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA Club are nearing completion of the upstairs of our Clubhouse, we as a club are forever indebted to the people who donated money from 2006 to get the Clubhouse started. Without this generosity we would never have been able to build, the wonderful Clubhouse we now have. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every person for your amazing generosity.

It is also great to see that the underage sections of the club have started back training after being in lockdown for so long. Hopefully this is a step towards what used to be the normal way of life.

St. Annes: In the easing of restrictions, from Monday last, 25 people are now allowed to attend a Funeral. Hopefully restrictions will be eased soon, so that people may get back to what used to be the normal way of life.

The Bishop has granted permission for the resumption of Baptisms, with a limited attendance confined to parents and godparents.

Mass can be heard on the radio at 107.8FM in the Bailieborough area and 92FM in Shercock.

 All Masses and Parish Funerals can be viewed on the Parish webcam or can be heard by tuning in the radio to 107.8 F.M.

Due to the restrictions, only six guests may participate in a wedding.

Deepest Sympathy:  Deepest Sympathy is extended to sister Kathleen (Sheridan) and brother James, brother in law John, sister in law Monica, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and extended family and friends on the death of Eugene O’Reilly Moylett, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan,  who passed away suddenly, at Virginia Primary Care on Wednesday, April 21st, 2021. Eugene was predeceased by his parents James and Mary and sisters Mollie and Theresa.

Eugene’s Funeral Mass took place in St Mary’s Church, Clonaphilip, on Friday, April 23rd and following which, Eugene’s remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.   

Trocaire: Please return your Trocaire contributions to the parish office as soon as possible. This year, the focus is on helping refugees in South Sudan.

East Cavan Gaels: Hurling:Juvenile hurling has returned for all from Monday last, from 6.30pm at Baileborough GAA grounds, St. Anne’s Park. It is most important/compulsory that all players are registered before returning to play to ensure they are covered by insurance. Covid sign in will be required by parents also.

Good News: In these troubled times, it is nice to see that there is some good news heading our way with the announcement on Monday morning last, that the old Bailieborough Court House is to be converted into Ireland’s first Plantation Museum. €1.4 million will go towards the project.  The project will include a visitor centre and museum, as well as spaces for remote working, a youth facility, cultural events and exhibitions.

The Visitor Centre will tell the story of Bailieborough and the surrounding areas and will be the first Plantation Museum in Ireland.

 Minister for Rural and Community Development  Heather Humphreys announced the allocation of funding for the project.  

Many thanks to all who are involved in the project.

Deepest Sympathy:  Deepest Sympathy is extended to family Gerry, Ollie, Michael, Andy and Catherine on the death of Suey Donohoe (Nee Reilly) late of Greaghcrotta, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 17th 2021. Suey was predeceased by her husband Paddy, brothers Seamus and Michael and her sister Catherine. Sadly missed by her sister Lil (New Jersey) and brother P.J. Her adored grandchildren Roy, Diane, Cian, Odhran and Aine, daughters-in-law, Siobhan and Margaret, sisters-in -law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours, relatives and friends.

Suey’s Funeral Mass took place in St.Brigid’s Church, Knockbride West on Monday, April 19th  followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Bailieborough Tidy Towns: Shame, Shame and Shame again, six of our lovely Beech hedging have been pulled up again on the Cavan road, going down to the Castle Lake entrance. Why does anybody do this ? Pure badness .

Thanks to Peadar and Larry for replanting them so promptly. We hope they will grow again and help to enhance this area of the Cavan Road.

St. Annes:  It seems as though public Masses will not resume until May. Many responsible people are finding this delay in re-opening our churches increasingly hard to accept. We are the only country in Western Europe where this is the case.

Farewell Jordan: On Sunday last our parish said farewell to Jordan, who has spent the past nine months with us on Pastoral Placement. He made an enormous contribution in difficult pandemic circumstances. Go n-eirí an bothar leat, Jordan!

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to children Mary, Breda, Rose, Paudie, Carmel, John, Michael and Paul on the death of Mary (Minnie) Cooney (nee McGee), Waterloo, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully, at her residence, on Wednesday, March 31st, in her 92nd year, surrounded by her loving family. Minnie was predeceased by her husband John.

Deeply regretted by her loving sons and daughters, brother John Magee, daughters in law, sons in law, sisters in law, Lill Magee and Nan Magee, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, good neighbours and friends.

Minnie’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Clanaphilip on Easter Sunday, April 4th and afterwards, her remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

St. Annes:  Easter Ceremonies: While government restrictions mean that people may not attend the Ceremonies of Easter week in person, they can still be watched or listened to via the Parish Webcam, television and radio. Also the Churches of the Parish remain open for private prayer.

Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7.00pm.

Good Friday: The Passion of the Lord at 3.00pm. A short Stations of the Cross ceremony can be accessed on the Parish Webcam at any time.

Holy Saturday: Easter Vigil at 9.00pm.

Easter Sunday: Mass of the Resurrection at 10.00am. On Easter Sunday, why not light a candle at home and take a flower from your garden and place it at the foot of the cross, as a sign of hope in the resurrection of Christ.

Bert’s Funeral Service took place in Trinity Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 20th and afterwards, his remains were laid to rest in Urcher Graveyard.

St. Annes:  Holy Half Hour will resume again this evening after the 7.00pm Mass on Wednesday, March 24th.

Mass can be heard on the radio at 107.8FM in the Bailieborough area and 92FM in Shercock.

Public Masses are suspended until at least  April 5th.  All Masses and Parish Funerals can be viewed on the Parish webcam or can be heard by tuning in the radio to 107.8 F.M.

Each Friday from 7:30-8:30pm will be a chance to see familiar faces for some fun and games! We will also be taking a look at the story of Daniel and his friends in the Bible. From their teenage years they faced into really difficult and trying times with faith and courage, and they actually flourished whilst living through those tough days. Can we do the same at this tough time?

Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Úna and children Jennifer, Katie, David, Donagh and Fionnuala, beloved grandfather of Sarah, Charlie, James, Una Mae, Elizabeth, Jack and Harry on the death of Jimmy Stafford, Waterloo, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan who passed away at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin on Tuesday, March 16th 2021.

Jimmy was the son of the late Mattie and Kathleen Stafford and was predeceased by his sister Kathleen, brother Mattie and cousin Jimmy Clarke. Jimmy will be deeply missed by his sons-in-law Paul, Michael and Tom and his daughter-in-law Roisín. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters Dympna, Carmel, Nancy, Rosemary and his brothers Aiden, Thomas, Pe and Brendan, his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and his many, many friends.

Jimmy’s Funeral Mass took place in St Mary’s Church, Clanaphillip on Friday, March 19th with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

St. Annes: Fr. Fidelis Bature Joseph: The members of the Prayer Group—Faith Matters—would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the people of the Parish and surrounding areas for their tremendous generosity towards the Trauma Centre Fund for Fr. Joseph in Nigeria. The final figure raised was €14,500. Fr. Joseph has written a letter of thanks which was available in the three churches last weekend and it is also available on the Parish Facebook page.

Deepest Sympathy:  Deepest Sympathy is extended to sons Micheál and Carl, daughters Geraldine, Breda, Martina and Olive, daughter-in-law Martina, sons-in-law Michi and Paul, sister Bridie Tierney (Maghera), brother-in-law Fr Bosco Clarke (Buckinghamshire), grandchildren Aoife, Shane, Philip, Darren, Hannah, Ciara and Conor and extended family and friends on the death of  Mary Clarke (nee Baugh), Tulnaskeagh, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, 23rd  February 2021, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  Mary was predeceased by her husband Philip.

Mary’s Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, February 25th in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough and afterwards her remains were laid to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Moybologue ,Tierworker  

St. Vincent DePaul: Due to Level 5 restrictions, the St. Vincent DePaul Shop ‘Vincents’ on Main St, will be closed for the foreseeable future. The Society ask that you hold onto any donations you may have, until the shop re-opens. Please do not leave any donations outside of the shop as they will be subjected to the elements and will have to be disposed of. The Society look forward to taking them in, when the shop re-opens.

Bailieborough Group of Parishes: During Lent, we will be running Zoom meetings for our second level students. We will be doing this alongside our friends in the Presbyterian Churches. Each Friday from 7:30-8:30pm will be a chance to see familiar faces for some fun and games! We will also be taking a look at the story of Daniel and his friends in the Bible. From their teenage years they faced into really difficult and trying times with faith and courage, and they actually flourished whilst living through those tough days. Can we do the same at this tough time?

During lockdown, we thought we would return to ‘Word at Noon’ from Monday-Friday each week. We hope these daily readings and reflections will be of some help in this tough time.

Our delivery service to members of our community who are vulnerable/cocooning will continue for the foreseeable future.

St. Annes:  Thanks: Thanks to those who donated so generously towards the upgrading of the Parish webcam. The neccessary upgrade increases the annual fee that we must pay the webcam provider. It is wonderful to have the webcam as it keeps everybody connected—but please bear in mind that this connection comes at a financial cost to the Parish.

Mass can be heard on the radio at 107.8FM in the Bailieborough area and 92FM in Shercock.

Public Masses are suspended until at least Thursday week, March 5th.  All Masses and Parish Funerals can be viewed on the Parish webcam or can be heard by tuning in the radio to 107.8 F.M.

Due to the restrictions, only six guests may participate in a wedding. At present only 10 people may attend a Funeral. No baptisms may take place at the present time.

Bailieborough Creative Hub: Bailieborough Creative Hub members continue to be inspired by each other during these peculiar times and we hope that later on in the year, we will curate an Exhibition of Art that has been inspired by everything local.

Cavan, who passed away on Monday, February 15th, 2021, in her 99th  year, peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Tommy, her brothers James and Peter and sister Theresa.

Margaret’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Patrick’s Church, Tierworker on Wednesday, February 17th with burial afterwards in Moybologue Cemetery..
