Fantastic swims and Personal Bests for our swimmers with special mention for the many swimmers for whom this was their first meet of this type. Spark Magazine: SPARK magazine was first published in 1993 as a cross border project and has continued annually ever since. Its former editor was based in Co Fermanagh but this year the magazine was edited and published by Bailie Publications, Bailieborough. It is available in Halls/Nearby, Main Street. SPARK magazine is a border counties history review full of interesting facts and information.
Congratulations: Congratulations and Well Done to local photographer Ollie Gargan, whose photo of Saint Marys Church in Cross, Cavan has won 2nd prize in this years ‘Wiki Loves Monuments’, photo competition. Ollie also won 3rd with his photo of Kylemore Church. He also had 3 other images highly commended, and won a special award for best upload, in the Connaught region, with his photo of Saint Mary’s Church in Galway. This is the world’s biggest photography competition, in terms of the massive amount of entries it receives every year, so well done Ollie on this fantastic achievement.

After a tremendous year, our Camogie Girls are being presented with their medals on Friday 23rd December at 7pm in the Clubhouse. And who better than our own Leanne Kiernan to be the Special Guest on the evening. Christmas Lights Committee: What a day on Saturday last ! We want to thank everyone who came along and supported our day. Santa was so happy to meet all the boys and girls and he assured us that they are all on the good list.
We want to give a special mention to the boys and girls at The Vale, Ballinamoney, The Model and St. Anne’s national schools for their beautiful decorations, they worked very hard to make sure that Santa’s Grotto was looking amazing.
Without the help of a few local volunteers it would not have been possible. A word of thanks to the electricians, the Argue family for doing a fantastic job with the crib again this year, the fantastic team who erected the Christmas Lights with minimal disruption to the town, our wonderful elves –all students at Bailieborough Community School TYs and 3rd years who gave up their day to help us out, to the Gardai for all their help and for giving Santa a lift and Santa himself, who after a hard day, found the time to turn on the Bailieborough Christmas Lights, and lastly but not least, the very hard working committee—without whom this would not have happened..
But the final word must go to you, our community who got behind the Christmas Lights collections and fundraisers to ensure the town was lit up and looking well for Christmas. We are truly blessed to live in such a community.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to children, Rosemary, Bridget, Patrick, Kathleen and James, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother Dan Clarke, sisters Mary Daly, Rose Sharry and Bridget Mulvey, extended family and friends on the death of Patrick (Paddy) Clarke, Guildford, Surrey U.K and late of Leiter, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan passed away peacefully in England on Wednesday, 9th November, aged 95 years. Patrick was predeceased by his loving wife Kitty, brothers Andrew, Hugh and sister Kitty.
Patrick’s Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, December 3rd , 2022 in St Anne’s Church, Bailieborough and afterwards Patrick’s remains were laid to rest in St Brigid’s Cemetery, Knockbride West (Tunnyduff).

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to children, David, Jean and Muriel on the death of their mother, Olive Wray, (née Ross), Knocknarea Villas, Sligo and formerly of Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20th 2022 at Sligo University Hospital. Olive was recently predeceased by her beloved husband William (Wilfred). Olive was also predeceased by her brothers, Harry and Eric. Olive will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her son, daughters, son-in-law Brian Allen, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandchildren Jennifer, Vicki, Gráinne, Ross, Samuel and Imogen, great-grandchildren Cian, Tom and Addy, niece Rosemary (Australia), relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Olive’s Funeral Service took place in Saint John’s Cathedral, John Street, Sligo on Wednesday, November 23rd and afterwards, Olive’s remains were laid to rest in Saint Anne’s Churchyard, Strandhill, Co. Sligo.

Virginia Show Centre Annual Christmas Fair on Saturday next, 3rd December from 12 to 5pm. Over 50 stalls, all indoor, with a visit from Mrs. Claus and children’s entertainment. Mini tractor or any mode of transport run in aid of the local ‘Jumping Jelly Beans club’ at 2 o’clock approx. Free Christmas floral demonstrations, throughout the day. So come along and get your unique Christmas gifts and entry is free! Special Children attend the ‘Jumping Jelly Beans Club’ in Virginia . East Cavan Gaels GAA Club -East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 28th November 2022:Seniors;League Champions 2022. Huge congratulations to our Seniors who put in a tremendous performance to secure the title for the very first time and our very first piece of Senior silverware as a club. This in addition to the Spring League victory makes for a significant breakthrough season for the Club. Well done to all and to manager Adam Baldwin for all the hard work which finally got its reward. Onwards and upwards for this group. Under 13/15/17; Great to see some of our lads hurling with the county at U13/15/17. They will be ready for intercounty competition in the Spring. Under 11;The work is almost done for the year. Sillan Vintage Club: Christmas Tractor Run: The Sillan Vintage Club’s, ‘Christmas Tractor Run’ will take place on Saturday, December 10th from The ‘Drop Inn’, Killann. Registration will take place from 3.00pm, refreshments served at 4.00pm and the run will commence at 4.45pm. Light up your vehicle and travel through the local towns! Annual Remembrance Mass: On Saturday evening next, November 19th at 7.00pm, in St. Annes Church, we will remember all those who have died in our Parish since November 1st 2021. Bereaved families are encouraged to attend this Mass, during which the name of your loved one will be read out and prayed for. Parishioners are asked to ensure that parishioners bereaved in the past twelve months know about this Mass and that they know that their presence will be appreciated.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club -Hurling News 7th November 2022Seniors; Final preparations for the league final Cootehill which is scheduled for the 12th November. Under 13/15/17; Great to see some of our lads hurling with the county at U13/15/17. They will be ready for intercounty competition in the Spring. Under 11; Games finished for the year, yet the lads continue to work away indoors in Killinkere working on their skills. Under 7/9; The indoor season is well up and running now and the boys are really getting into their stride. Now that most football activity has finished for the year, we encourage our friends in the local GAA clubs to send their boys to winter with the hurlers, the more the merrier! Parish Green Group: The Killann Parish ‘Green Group’ was busy last week, harvesting the seeds in our wild garden. The seeds will be dried out and sown in the Spring. The garden was then mowed.
Bailieborough Mid Summer Festival and Town Events: Unfortunately the ‘Scary Walk’ event had to be cancelled due to severe water logging and floods around the Town Lake, which had made the area very unsafe for the event.
The organisers are very sorry as they tried everything ensure the event went ahead. Anyone who has already paid will be returned payment as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone for your help and for trying to make it happen.

It was Larry’s wish that his body be donated to Medical Science. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Lough An Leagh and Muff Heritage Trust: The Lough An Leagh and Muff Heritage Trust are pleased to announce the completion of the redeveloped Picnic and Mass Rock area at Lough An Leagh—a key component of the Group’s 2022-2032 masterplan for the region. The upgraded facility includes– a paved Picnic Area, a converted shelter, auditorium-style seating around the Mass Rock, thoughtful landscaping-incorporating native shrubs and an accessible Viewing Platform.
To celebrate this milestone, the Trust will host an Official Opening Ceremony on Saturday next, November 5th from 12 noon to 1.00pm. Th event will include a Blessing and a preview of future development projects, followed by light refreshments and entertainment from local musicians, to showcase the newly upgraded space. All are welcome to attend.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club -Hurling News 24th October 2022Seniors; The opportunity for redemption for the Seniors as the League Final is scheduled for this coming Saturday at 4pm, venue tbc. Under 13/15/17; A great win for the U13s in the final v Mullahoran. They started a bit slowly but grew into the game and once in their stride the result was never in any doubt. An exemplary bunch of lads who keep improving year on year. The very hard and challenging start to the year got its just reward for sticking with the project by winning the league. Special thanks to Pat and Marcella for their considerable work in bringing the lads to this point and to all our player parents who made all the trips, especially the long trips throughout the year. Nights like Monday make it all worthwhile. Thanks to Keith Greene and Mark O’Rourke from Cavan GAA who ensured we got the main pitch at Kingspan Breffni to showcase the lads skills. Well done to all. Enjoy the break and we’ll plan our attack for 2023!! Under 7/9; The indoor season is well up and running now and the boys are really getting into their stride. Now that most football activity has finished for the year we encourage our friends in the local GAA clubs to send their boys to winter with the hurlers, the more the merrier! Plenty of room for more. Looking forward to seeing you all at THE 17th GALLANT 5KM/10KM CHALLENGE: In aid of St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan which takes place on Saturday 29th October 2022. It is so great to be back as it has been three years since our last Challenge and we are so excited. This year’s event will as usual, start and finish at Mac Seains Bar, Cornafean and will be marked out and stewarded along the route to guide you along the way, to whichever distance you decide to participate in. Over the years the Challenge has been an outstanding success, raising €436,000 for this wonderful cause. There will be loads of surprises and craic on the day and it will be a fantastic day for the family. Entry fee on the day to participate in the Challenge is voluntary. Bailieborough Represented on the World Stage in the World Rally Championship (WRC)
It was officially announced last Tuesday morning, that Bailieborough man James Fulton will take a seat alongside Craig Breen in the W.R.C. after the retirement of Paul Nagle last week.
James Fulton from Baileborough, Co Cavan started off ‘on the notes’ with his friend Gary Kiernan almost a decade ago, learned the ropes and has been a specialist navigator since then.
James is well travelled throughout the world, calling notes for many elite drivers, “ it takes an awful lot of commitment. It’s like any sport, if you want to achieve in it, you have to knuckle down and commit to it”.
The role of a navigator requires a degree of fearlessness as well as sharp logistical skills. The behind-the-scenes part of the job is, James says, the most taxing.
James said: “I am delighted to get the opportunity, it’s something that I have been aiming towards for a while now, naturally, like any co-driver to get to the top level.
“I have been working with Craig for quite a while now and I have done a couple of tests in the Ford Puma, so I am really looking forward to developing the relationship with him and the car as well as with the team. I am looking forward to getting stuck into it and doing the best possible job.”
Craig Breen said, “I have every confidence in James, he’s been on the most recent tests with us and Rally Japan—from the 10th to the 13th of November, will give him good experience ahead of next season. Paul [Nagle] will also be joining us in Japan, just to settle everything in and give James plenty of reassurance.
Well done James and we all wish you well in being at the top end of the W.R.C. and continuing the long association, that Bailieborough has in the Rallying world.

Bailieborough Red Cross: Following the tragic incident in Creeslough, the Creeslough Community Support Fund has been established by the Irish Red Cross in collaboration with An Post and Applegreen to provide rapid and long-term assistance to the Creeslough community.
All donations to this fund will be dedicated to the support of those who have been bereaved, injured, made homeless, or left without an income as a result of the tragedy.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 17th October 2022:Seniors; SHC Round 3: Cootehill 1-14, East Cavan Gaels 0-10. A disappointing result in appallingly difficult hurling conditions in Cootehill. We matched the champions in most departments but a five minute surge in the first half where they scored 1-2 without reply was enough for the hosts to keep us at arms length. We matched them in most departments but the weather made any effort at fluid hurling difficult for both sides and it became a war of attrition. Outscoring the opposition 8-4 in the second half, as we finally got to grips with the conditions, leads to a lot of “what ifs” but in the end the more experienced outfit prevailed we wish them well in the final and look forward to one more crack at them in the League Final in a few weeks time. Well done lads.
Under 11; Nearing the end of the season with a couple more training sessions before the League final v Cootehill in the coming weeks. Under 7/9; Indoor hurling has returned for the new season every Saturday in Killinkere GAA Hall. Under 7 from 1-2pm and Under 9 from 2-3pm. Great numbers in the first weeks so far.
