This unique fun event starts at Gallonray House , Cootehill with a 5k run/walk, followed by a 1k kayak race, then run a short distance to the Bike Transition area and finishing with a 15k cycle.
The emphasis is on FUN, so whether you are an experienced athlete looking for a serious challenge or a total beginner looking for a bit of ‘craic’ then you will not want to miss this event.
The race is open to individuals or if you feel all three events may be too much … why not enter a relay team or three to share the load?
This route takes you on to the Shercock-Canningstown Road going towards Canningstown. At Canningstown turn right for Cootehill and follow the rolling Drumlins to Maudabawn turning right for the Co-op and back to Gallonray (Start/Finish).
It is a hilly 5km run, with the infamous Peppers Bray signalling a long downhill to the lake and Transition 1.
The kayak course is 1km, a long loop of Barnagrow Lake returning to Transition 1. You will be assisted out of your kayak and life jacket and must run a further 400m to Transition 2. You will have a choice of sit on or sit in kayaks. It is recommended that you get some experience paddling a sit in kayak prior to the race. You must put on your helmet prior to un-racking your bike. You will not be allowed to leave Transition 2 unless your race number matches your bike number. The Cavan Kayakarun Challenge Bike section is 15kms long.

SQUARE BAR WIN THE FIRST EVER BAILIE BOWL
Big crowd at The Vale enjoy top night of soccer & fundraising!
Bailieborough, July 3, 2015:
The Bailieboro Soccer Sixes tournament reached its conclusion last Friday evening when a large crowd gathered at The Vale to enjoy the semifinals and final.
After a nine week league was completed the top four sides in the competition for local pubs advanced to a final evening where favourites The Square Bar played Fox’s Bar and The Castle Inn took on Crossans Ramblers.
The Square Bar were the deserved winners of the competition, beating Fox’s Bar in their semi-final before overwhelming The Castle Inn in the final itself, known as The Bailie Bowl. Square Bar captain Calvin Daly was presented on the pitch with The Paddy Bird Memorial Cup, named in honour of the local sportsman who tragically passed away in 2011, by Paddy’s parents Francis and Kathleen.
The fine weather helped bring a large crowd to The Vale, the home of Bailieboro Celtic, to witness all the action before everyone then headed to The Castle Inn for the presentations and after-party.
One of the main aims of the tournament is to raise money for local charities and good causes. This time it was the Hope For Cian fund that was the beneficiary as over €550 was raised through the sale of matchday programmes and raffle tickets, with a pair of tickets to see chart-topper Jason Derulo at the 3Arena in Dublin one of the prizes on offer.
“The tournament has been a huge success with almost every pub in town entering a team,” said organiser Karl Hofer. “The soccer has been of a very high standard and we’ve raised some good money for a great cause. But none of this would have been possible without the support of the tournament sponsors, namely Bridie Rahill, Elite Betting & Kevin Argue.”
“There has been a really great buzz about the place since it kicked-off, so much so we plan to do it twice a year now. We’ll go again in October and hopefully get even more people involved.”
