Free Lecture in the Library:

Bailieborough Library will host a lecture on Paddy Smith, the longest serving TD in the history of Dáil Éireann, and grand uncle of newly elected TD Niamh Smyth, on Thursday evening, March 10th at 7.30pm. Dr Tom Feeney, who lectures in modern Irish history in UCD and the Institute of Public Administration, will deliver the talk. All are welcome and admission is free. The Event is part of Cavan’s 1916 Centenary Programme.

 

St. Patrick’s Day Parade:

The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Thursday, March 17th in Bailieborough will commence at 2.30pm—starting at the Community School on the Virginia Road. This year the parade will have ‘The 1916 Rising’ as its theme. There are prizes for the best 1916 themed Float and there are also prizes for the Best Dressed 1916 themed Window display. So come along and celebrate our National Holiday and enjoy the parade.

 

BRIDGE NEWS AND RESULTS:

The news that our esteemed member and friend, Anne Moran passed away last Friday was met with huge shock and regret by all our members.  We extend our deepest sympathy to Tom, their girls, Aileen and Janet and son, Raymond and the extended family. Anne was President of our club in 1997/98 and was very involved in the activities of the club, serving on the Handicap Committee in recent years.  Ar dheis De’ go raibh a anam dilis.

February’s “Player of the Month” was Jimmy Stafford.  Congratulations to Jimmy and all Prizewinners.

Deepest Sympathy:

Deepest Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Mrs Eileen Sheehy (née Flanagan), Navan who died recently. Eileen is survived by her brothers and sisters Peadar, Tony and Joan (all London), Damian, Brian and Brenda (all Bailieborough) and Kieran (Dundalk).

Deepest Sympathy is also extended to the families, relatives and friends of Ann Moran, Rakeevan, whose Funeral took place on Monday and for Jimmy Fitzsimons, Woodview, Tony Carroll, Drumanespic and Christine O’Leary, Woodview, whose funerals took place during the past week.  Our sympathies to all their relatives and friends.

 

 

Bailieborough Shamrocks Registration Weekend:

Registration weekend for Bailieborough Shamrocks on Friday 11 March from 7pm to 8.30pm and Saturday, 12 March from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. All players must be registered to play for the 2016 season, as it is a requirement for insurance purposes. All u6, u8 and u10 boys and girls are free for 2016, but must be registered.

Remember, only paid up members are eligible and insured to use the Club facilities and grounds. Special family rate available.

Education Guidance for all adults at the Library at 3pm on first Tuesday of each month. Free service run by ETB. Information on courses available, funding and grants.

 

World Day of Prayer:

Thank you to all those who attended the ecumenical service to mark the World Day of Prayer on Friday night in St. Anne’s Church and to the members of the local Presbyterian and Church of Ireland communities for their participation. Thank you also to Martha Lievens, Principal of Bailieborough Community School, who was the keynote speaker. The music and singing on the night was provided by Derek Eakins, Isobel Davidson, Bert Coote and the Shercock Children’s Choir who were excellent.  The Pastoral Council did great work in bringing it all together and thank you to those who provided the beautiful and plentiful refreshments afterwards.

 

THE MODEL SCHOOL:

Social Dancing:

Next Saturday night 12th of March, we have a new band, Jimmy Hynes and the Crusaders. This is a three piece band with a live drummer. The other instruments are a keyboard and a guitar. They are highly regarded. You are sure to have a good night with the band and the other goodies. Dancing is from ten till twelve thirty. Everyone is welcome to have a go at the social dancing.

 

FIRST CONFESSIONS:

First Confessions will take place on Tuesday evening next, March 15th at 7.30pm for participating children in St. Anne’s, St. Felim’s and The Model Schools.

 

 

Annual Knockbride Variety Show:

The Knockbride Annual Variety Show will take place on Thursday 10th, Friday 11th and Saturday 12th March at 8.30pm in Tunnyduff Hall. An extravaganza of comedy, music, song and dance. A night not to be missed and all are most welcome to attend.

 

Blood Transfusion Clinic:

The Mobile Unit of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be in attendance at Bailieborough Community School, on Wednesday, 23rd March 2016 from 5:00pm – 8:30pm. All regular Blood Donors are invited to attend and new donors are especially welcome.

 

FIT 2 GO Fitness Classes:

The following are the dates for Baptisms in St. Anne’s Church for the Months of March and April- Sunday 13th March, Sunday 20th March, Saturday 26th March Easter Vigil 9pm, Sunday April 17th and Sunday April 24th.  –Please note that Baptisms will take place on Sundays at 12.30pm for the foreseeable future.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Hurling Club – Hurling News 7th March 2016

 

Under 6/8/10; Another good week with both groups training away indoors while some of our Under 10s went to Dundalk on Saturday to play 5 games v other clubs from Ulster. More of these big blitzes ahead. We head to Carrick this coming Saturday. More info at training.

Hydration; We advise that all boys who play with us bring their own water bottle and have it filled with water only please. Juices/fizzy drinks are of no addition to you if you need to hydrate during training/games.

Training has now returned for the older boys on Wednesdays indoors in Bailieborough Community School Sports Hall.

Under 12 and Under 14 from 7-8pm and Under 16 and Under 18 from 8-9pm. €2 each and please bring water.

First round of the Under 12 Spring league is on Saturday 19th March away to Cootehill.

You must be registered with East Cavan Gaels GAA Hurling Club to play hurling with East Cavan Gaels. Forms available at training.

Under 6/8/10; Kingscourt group; Thursdays at Kingscourt Community Centre Under 6/8 from 6.45-7.45 and Under 10 from 6.45-8.15. €3 each please.

Bailieborough group; Fridays – Under 6/8 from 6-7pm. Under 10 from 7-8pm in Bailieboro Community School Sports Hall. €3 each please.

Both sessions are open to anyone from the region to attend.

Tanagh Outdoor Education and Training Centre

will be running a Kayak Skills Camp on the 29th-31st March from 10am-2pm for 9-16 year olds. The camp will introduce paddlers to the basic kayak skills. Participants will be required to travel each day to and from the centre.
