East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 11th January 2016

We wish all our supporters, players, coaches and mentors a very Happy New Year!

The New Year is always a time for resolutions and with that in mind we encourage as many boys from the local communities to try out hurling if they have yet to do so. 2016 promises to be our biggest ever year on the field as we will have at least 11 teams in various competitions/blitzes from Under 6 all the way up to Minor (Under 18). There is a team for you regardless of your age or ability. No previous hurling experience is required and we provide the equipment while you “give it a go!” Some of the greatest ever hurlers started late, Sean Og O’Halpin was 14 years old before he started playing hurling and Henry Shefflin, probably the greatest ever hurler, started out as a goalie! If you are interested in hurling then we have a team for you. Come to one of our registration nights and speak to members of the coaching team and see if hurling could be the game for you.

Registration nights; We will register all our present and new hurlers in two venues as follows; Kingscourt Community Centre Thursday January 28th from 6.45 for all from the Kingscourt area Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10.

Bailieborough Community School Sports Hall Friday January 29th from 6pm for all from the Bailieborough/Shercock/Knockbride area. Under 6 all the way to Minor (Under 18).

The fee for registration is €15 per player for the year.

Minor; Our minors will now take part in the 2015 Championship Final on Sunday 17th January on the 3G at Breffni Park at 2.30 v our friends from Cootehill. This is our very first final at minor and follows on from our Under 16s participating in their first ever final also. All support very welcome.

Presentation night; The most famous trophy in hurling, the Liam McCarthy Cup will make a welcome return to East Cavan Gaels on Sunday, January 17th at 5.30pm in The Bailie Hotel, Bailieborough, as we host our presentation evening for 2015s hurling activity. Rackard Coady, Kilkenny kit man for many years will give the inside story on the most successful period in hurling history and present Certificates and medals to our various teams including our excellent;

Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 teams.

Under 12s – 2015 Championship Runners Up.

Under 14s – 2015 Cavan Championship Shield and Ulster tri-county Div. 2 champions & participation in National Feilé.

Plus we recognise our U16 and U18 sides who both reached their first ever Championship finals this past year. Everyone will get an opportunity to get their photo with the cup so stick the date in your diary and we hope we will see you there!

Hurling training times and venues; Under 6/8/10;
