Genealogy Night:

Bailieborough Heritage Society will hold a Genealogy Night in Bailieborough Business Centre on Thursday next, 25th February at 8pm. Carmel O’Callaghan will share her vast knowledge on the subject, so come along and learn how to research your family tree, what sources are available and how to overcome obstacles that you may encounter along the way. All welcome.

 

St. Patrick’s Day Parade:

The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Thursday, March 17th in Bailieborough will commence at 2.30pm—starting at the Community School on the Virginia Road. This year the parade will have ‘The 1916 Rising’ as its theme. There are prizes for the best 1916 themed Float and there are also prizes for the Best Dressed 1916 themed Window display. So come along and celebrate our National Holiday and enjoy the parade.

 

 

Deepest Sympathy:

Deepest sympathy is extended to the relatives, family and friends of Gerry Barry, Drumbannon, whose funeral took place on Sunday last and to Ellen Kane, Tanderagee, on the death of her brother Martin Mullens, Galway, who died recently.

 

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER:

An Ecumenical Service of Prayer will take place in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough with the theme ‘Receive Children, Receive Me’ on Friday, March 4th, at 8pm. The service will include participation by members of the local Presbyterian and Church of Ireland communities.  Martha Lievens, Principal of Bailieborough Community School, will be the keynote speaker.  Music will be provided by St. Anne’s Choir and the Shercock Children’s choir. All welcome.

Strut(r) Fitness

starts on Thursday 3rd March at 7pm in Trinity Hall, Bailieboro. Strut(r) is the newest dance fitness class sweeping the country with an easy to follow structure, so that everybody can do it and learn to dance in the process! Baptism Dates in St. Annes for March and April 2016:

The following are the dates for Baptisms in St. Anne’s Church for the Months of March and April- Sunday 13th March, Sunday 20th March, Saturday 26th March Easter Vigil 9pm, Sunday April 17th and Sunday April 24th.  –Please note that Baptisms will take place on Sundays at 12.30pm for the foreseeable future.

 

 

Irish Dance Classes:

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 22nd February 2016

 

Gerry Barry RIP;

It is with great sadness we learn of the passing of Gerry Barry, President Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA, uncle to Anthony and the Barry family Bailieborough. Gerry has been a long-time supporter of both Bailieborough Shamrocks and more recently East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club taking great joy in watching the Barry clan excel on the field in both hurling, football and Camogie.

Always available to help and support both clubs in whatever capacity he could he will be sadly missed by both clubs.

Under 6/8/10; A quiet week on the hurling fields as most were on mid-term break. ECG GAA visited, along with Ulster GAAs Pauric Dowdall, Cabra NS in Kingscourt for some schools hurling as part of their Active Schools Flag raising ceremony. If your school would like a visit then please contact ECG HC. We would be happy to assist.

U6/8/10 indoor training returns this week in Kingscourt on Thursday and Bailieborough on Friday. New players continue to be made welcome.

Thursdays at Kingscourt Community Centre Under 6/8 from 6.45-7.45 and Under 10 from 6.45-8.15. €3 each please.

Bailieborough group; Fridays – Under 6/8 from 6-7pm. Under 10 from 7-8pm in Bailieboro Community School Sports Hall. €3 each please.

Both sessions are open to anyone from the region to attend.

Tanagh Outdoor Education and Training Centre

will be running a Kayak Skills Camp on the 29th-31st March from 10am-2pm for 9-16 year olds. The camp will introduce paddlers to the basic kayak skills. Participants will be required to travel each day to and from the centre. The camp includes coaching, assessment and certificate which is carried out by our highly qualified and experienced instructors. Contact Philomena to book your place 049-5552988.

 

Aughawillan Drama: Breaking News:

Don’t be disappointed if you weren’t able to get to see the show “Mother Knows Best”, we have great pleasure in announcing that the decision has just been made to run the play for some extra nights. This is due to the huge demand and popularity we have seen for the past few nights. We apologise to anyone who travelled to see us and couldn’t get in we hope you will come again.  Dates have yet to be announced but keep an eye on your local notes and like us on Aughawillan Drama Facebook for update.  Also listen out to Shannon Side Northern Sound.

Local meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous are held in: The Health Centre, Kells Road on Wednesdays at 8.30pm.
