Smiley O’Reilly—Presentation Evening:

On Tuesday evening last, 3rd May there was a memorial Mass in Tierworker for Sean Smiley O’Reilly followed by light refreshments in the Hall where there was a presentation to both the Bailieborough and Kingscourt Cancer Funds of proceeds raised from the Smiley O’Reilly Memorial Tractor run which was held on Sunday, April 3rd.
Both charities received a cheque for €4070 from the O’Reilly family.
The organisers of the Smiley O’Reilly Memorial Run and parents of Sean would like to thank everyone who attended the Tractor Run on 3rd April. An incredible 327 vehicles took part on the Run. They would also like to thank everyone who helped out in any way, all the marshals, the women who baked, donated and served the food, anyone who donated a spot prize, The Royal Breffni for the use of their field, Tierworker Community for the use of their Hall and the Order of Malta for attending on the day as well.
They hope everyone had had an enjoyable day and hope to see you all again next year.

Bailieboro Celtic AFC:

Congratulations to the senior players on beating Rathkenny from division 2 in the semi-final of the Fitzsimons cup on Friday last. The team won 1—0 after extra time with Ben Hannigan getting the all-important goal from the penalty spot. A great team performance and made all the better by the record of not being beaten at home since the first game of the league last August.  Best of luck lads in the final.

We are delighted to be hosting an FAI Summer Soccer Schools Camp again this year for boys and girls aged between 6 and 14 years of age. This year’s camp runs from Monday 4th July till Friday 8th July between 10.30 am and 3.00 pm. Prices remain the same as last year at €65 per child with family discounts and each child receives a full kit (jersey, shorts and socks) backpack and ball. Congratulations:

Congratulations and well done to the teachers, staff and pupils of St. Felim’s, The Vale who won a National Award at this year’s Irish Water Green-Schools “Water of the Year” awards. The awards recognise the dedication and innovation shown by schools that have been working on the Water theme, and are receiving the Green Flag for Water this year. St Felim’s National School in Bailieborough, County Cavan, took home the award the Regional Award for Ulster/Connaught for their success in reducing their school’s water usage, and for raising awareness about water issues.

 

May is Mary’s Month:

The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto on the Virginia Road every evening during the month of May at 7.30pm. No Rosary on Saturdays. Everyone welcome to offer prayer for the sick of our Parish as well as any private intention.

 Dawn Chorus Day, Sunday 15th May (10th annual event): Bailieborough Castle Lake Forest. Meet at the Lake shore car park, Shercock road at 4.30am.

This is a great opportunity to learn about birdsong while enjoying an early morning walk.

Deepest Sympathy is extended to the Family, Relatives and Friends of Pat Dunne, Drumacarrow, who died on Saturday last. Pat’s Funeral Mass and interment took place in St. Anne’s on Monday morning.

Deepest Sympathy is extended to the Family, Relatives and Friends of Vincent Clarke, Moylett, Bailieborough who died on Saturday last and whose Funeral Mass and interment took place in St. Mary’s Church, Clonaphilip on Tuesday morning.

Deepest Sympathy is extended to Phillis Farrell, Rakeevan, on the death of her brother, Murty Kelly whose funeral took place in Portmarnock on Tuesday last.  Deepest Sympathy is extended to Una McKenna, Tanderagee, on the death of her brother, Charlie O’Reilly, Surrey, England who died last week.

Deepest Sympathy is extended to the Family, Relatives and Friends of Patricia Breen, nee Smith, London and Lakeview, whose ashes were buried in St. Anne’s Cemetery last Sunday week.

Relaghbeg Fundraising Committee:

Thanks to everyone who took part in the Fun Run on Sunday week last, luckily the rain stayed away until everyone was back safe and dry at Smyth’s Bar Relaghbeg. The winners on the day were Bailieborough Run: Tony Gregory, Lucia Crossan, Rory O’Connell, James and Ellie Flanagan and Caoimhe Cooney.

Mullagh Run: Martin Smith, Olive Coleman, Clodagh Smyth, Siobhan and Ellen Daly and Holly McCabe and Lola. Well done to everyone. We will keep you posted on the final figure raised for Bailieborough Cancer Fund. Thanks to all our Stewards and Registration Crew, Tea Ladies, Bakers and Sandwich makers and a big thanks to Thomas and all the staff at Smyth’s Relaghbeg for their help, it’s greatly appreciated

 

LAVEY TO LOURDES CYCLE:

Five people from the diocese, including Stephen Gregory from Bailieborough, are undertaking a cycle from Lavey to Lourdes to help raise much needed funds to bring wheelchair and assisted pilgrims to the shrine as part of the Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage.  Those who are doing this cycle would like to invite all cyclists to join them on the first stage of the cycle to Lourdes.  The cycle starts at 8am on Sunday next, May 15th from Lower Lavey Community Centre.  It continues to Ballyjamesduff, Castlepollard and finishes in Carlow town.  Why not try just part of the way? Bailieborough School of Music

present ‘An Evening of Music’ in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin in Bailieborough Community School on Saturday May 14th at 8pm. Featuring Bailieborough Senior and Junior Youth Bands, Teacher’s Collective featuring Liam McCabe, special appearance of ‘The Groove’ Big Band. This is an enjoyable summer evening of music while also supporting a very worthy cause. Admission is €10. Forthcoming ‘Blue Plaque’ Unveiling:

As part of Cavan County Council’s 1916/2016 Centenary programme of events and in association with the Ulster History Circle, a Blue Plaque to honour Francis Sheehy Skeffington will be unveiled on Thursday June 9th at 7.30.pm. Dr Micheline Sheehy Skeffington, granddaughter of Francis and Hanna Sheehy Skeffington will  unveil the plaque at Bailieborough Library.

Bailieborough Library Parent, Baby and Toddler Group has proven to be a vital life line for all stay-at-home parents who may be new to the area and wish to get out of the house and make new friends. There is a huge range of toys for children to play with, while parents can enjoy a cup of tea and chat.

The group meets at the Library Arts space every Wednesday at 10.30am-12pm. Why not join their Facebook Group and keep up to date with news and events.

  East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 9th May 2016

Under 6/8/10; We finally got our outdoor season up and running when we hosted Carrickmacross in Kingscourt on Wednesday last. Thanks to Kingscourt Stars for the use of their facilities. This coming Wednesday we will have an in-club blitz where all our club U6/8/10 players will play against each other in Bailieborough, again thanks to Bailieborough GAA for the use of their facilities. The following week we will head to Cloghan for another big outdoor blitz.

Our summer hurling schedule will mean more blitzes /games and less training with most blitzes taking place on Wednesdays as this is the designated hurling day for hurling in the county. We have already had over 30 weeks indoors so the lads are ready to demonstrate their skills in the games environment outdoors.

Under 12; We will now schedule a number of challenge games over the next month to get these lads ready for the Under 12 Championship which begins on Wednesday 8th June.

Under 14; The final round of the Under 14 league is this coming week when we play Woodford Gaels with the semi-finals down for next Sunday and the final on Sunday 22nd May.

Under 16/18; New players are especially welcome. Equipment supplied while learning the game.

Celtic Challenge; Congratulations to Rory Farrell, Cian McEntee, Kyle McGuinness and Jack Barry on their participation in the inter county U17 Celtic Challenge competition midweek v Sligo. Round 2 this Wednesday v Louth.

Bag Pack; Very gracious thanks to Lorraine Harris and the staff of Supervalu Bailieborough for allowing our bag pack on Saturday last. We thank all our players and their parents who helped throughout the day to raise money for the club and our trip to Tipperary to play National Féile in June. Special thanks to all the customers of Harris Supervalu for their generosity on the day.

Lucky first goal; East Cavan Gaels GAA Club are delighted to announce our major club fundraiser for this year- Lucky First Goal in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final 2016. For just €2 you could win the top prize of €500 if you select the winning scratch card with the correct time of the first goal scored in the Final. We continue to rely on our local communities for our funding for our 7 club teams, from Under 6 up to Minor (U18) and our National Féile na nGael representatives who travel to Tipperary in June which will be the third year in a row that we have provided the Féile experience to our club players. Cards are available from all ECG GAA players and committee members. Get scratching and good luck to all!

Training will move to Wednesdays in the next few weeks. This coming Wednesday we will be in Bailieborough for an in house blitz and Cloghan the following week so no training.

Bailieborough group U6/8/10;

Training will remain on Friday but priority will be given to the Wednesday blitzes.

Both sessions are open to anyone from the region to attend.

 The annual Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place this year from 27th May to 1st June.
