Corona Virus Updates:
At the time of writing, Bailieborough Town and most of the surrounding areas have gone into voluntary shutdown, due to the potential of the virus spreading. So far there have been no reported cases of the virus in the locality. With the increase of virus testing at the start of the week, this may change over the coming days and weeks. Most non essential shops and businesses have closed and will remain so until further notice. Some are still open for business and others can only be contacted by phone or on line. Some have also introduced a delivery service to reduce the risk of potential contamination. All sporting activity has been cancelled and the local gyms and leisure centre are closed. Most meetings, social events and get-togethers have also been cancelled or deferred until the crisis is over.
A great sense of community is also starting to become evident with many people volunteering to assist and help the at-risk and vulnerable in the community. It is in times of crisis like this that the best comes out in people. Hopefully we will all come out safe and sound at the end of this and remember to ‘Stay Safe’.
St. Annes Corona virus : New Church Arrangements: Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses are cancelled until further notice. Fortunately in St. Annes there is a webcam. Fr. Ultan intends to say privately all scheduled Masses at the usual times. These Masses will be streamed live on the internet via the Parish webcam—without a congregation present. Just Google ‘St. Annes, Bailieborough Webcam’ and you will find it. Those within a radius of the town of Bailieborough will also be able to listen to Masses on our radio system by tuning into your home radio at 107.8FM.
While Fr. Ultan will say Saturday evening and Sunday morning Mass at the usual times, parishioners are not permitted to be present.
Weekday Masses will continue as usual. Those attending weekday Masses are asked to spread out through the Church and leave at least one metre between each other. People who are over 60 and have underlying health problems are encouraged not to attend weekday Mass, as they may be putting themselves and others at risk.
The Parish Churches, will remain open as usual for private prayer.
Confirmation will take place at a later date.
Attendance at Funeral Services and Masses should be limited to close relatives and must not exceed 100 attendees within the Church building.
Church weddings and Baptisms may be celebrated on condition that the attendance in the Church does not exceed 100 people.
Mrs. Nora Martin: It was with deep sadness and regret that the community learned of the passing of Nora Martin (nee Beggins) Drumbannon, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan which occured on Monday, 2nd March 2020.
Nora passed peacefully at Lisdarn, Unit for the Elderly in Cavan, surrounded
by her family.
Nora spent her early years in Cootehill Co. Cavan, she was one of 4 children and
was later married to the late James Martin. The family moved to Bailieborough in 1966 where she lived till her passing.
Nora will be dearly missed by her daughters : Peggy, Kathleen, Mary, Teresa, Ann,
Noreen, Eileen, Phyllis and Caroline. Her sons Christopher, Micheal, Gerry and Paddy and also her extended family and a large circle of neighbours and friends.
Nora’s Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ultan McGoohan in St. Annes Church in Bailieborough on Thursday, 5th March and her remains were laid to rest afterwards in St. Annes Cemetery, Bailieborough.
Knockbride Annual Variety Show: In light of the current situtation regarding Covid 19, a decision has been made to postpone the Knockbride Variety Show. We will review the situtation over the next few weeks in the hope of running the show at a later date. Thank you all for your support so far and we hope to perform for you in the near future.
Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to children Debbie, Melanie, Paddy and Kevin and their mother Margaret, sisters Kathleen and Phyllis, sons in law Donald and Martin, daughter in law Roseanne, grandchildren Sean, Aaron, Connor, Orlaith, Ciara, Niamh and Oliver, brother in law, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends on the death of James (Jim) Mortimer, Bexcourt and formerly Lisnalee, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, 5th March 2020, at Cavan General Hospital. Jim was predeceased by his son Barry and daughter Orla.
Jim’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Sunday, March 8th and following which, his remains were laid to rest in St. Annes Cemetery.
Bridge: Bridge has been cancelled untill further notice.
Women’s World Day of Prayer: Thank You to all who organised, participated and attended the Women’s World Day of Prayer Service held in St. Anne’s. A total of €396.00 was collected and will be forwarded to the Branch Treasurer of World Day of Prayer, Ireland.
‘Darkness into Light’ 2020: The ‘Darkness Into Light’ event has been cancelled due to the Covid 19 crisis but it is hoped to run the event sometime in the Autumn.
Bailieboro Celtic: All club activities for all ages have been cancelled untill further notice.
Bailieborough Group of Parishes: For the time being (as our gatherings are below 100) our Sunday morning services will continue as usual following the advice and guidelines the experts and authorities have issued. If you feel unwell, please don’t attend until you feel better. Exercise caution if you have people at home with underlying health issues. If you cannot (or would rather not attend) but would like service/sermon notes, please contact Rev Ian at ianewhorner@gmail.com and he will send them on to you.
The Irish Cancer Society are sorry to announce that they have decided to cancel ‘Daffodil Day’ street collections and events scheduled for March 27th. They have made the decision to protect the health and wellbeing of their patients, volunteers and supporters.
Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Rosaleen and sons Garry, Niall, Brian, Cyril, Conor and Damien, his 6 daughters-in-law and 19 grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends on the death of John J Keegan, Lisnalea, Bailieborough who passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, March 6th.
John’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church on Monday, March 9th with burial afterwards in St. Annes Cemetery.
Bailieborough Mental Health Association: Annual Quiz: The Bailieborough Mental Health Association’s Annual Quiz—due to take place this Friday, is postponed until a later date as with the coronavirus outbreak its in the best interest of peoples health.
Bailieborough Hen’s Shed: Meetings have been cancelled until further notice.

Baptism Dates in St. Annes for March and April: The following are the available dates for Baptisms in St. Anne’s Church– March 28th (Saturday, 1.30pm) March 29th (Sunday, 12.30pm), at the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 11th at 9.00pm, April 18th (Saturday, 1.30pm) and April 19th (Sunday, 12.30pm).
