St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is back this year and we invite people to get involved and help out on the day. Signs are starting to hit the roadside. Hoping to bring a bit of community spirit to the town and looking for all your support.

 All floats welcome.  Vintage cars, bikes and tractors. Comedy floats,  Sports clubs and all Business floats, welcome. Entry of floats is free of charge.

Great chance to promote your business club etc,,,

Prizes for best float, best comedy and also best dressed window in town.

 All floats are to meet in the Community School car park from 2pm,  ready for kick off at 2.30pm where they will travel over to Main St…Kids tractor/bike/go kart run will meet a 2pm outside the Library.

A new addition to this year’s parade is a ‘Kids Tractor Run’!! Would your child like to decorate their tractor, go kart, bike or car and come and join us in the Parade?

Meeting outside Bailieborough Library at 2.00pm on Friday, March 17th, 2023. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Raffle tickets are now on sale in local shops and businesses around Bailieborough town. Great prizes to be won!

All proceeds support our St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

St. Patrick’s Parade in Bailieborough would not be possible without volunteers and we need more volunteers in 2023.

Volunteering at our St. Patrick’s Parade is a fun experience and the chance to be part of a team in our community. We value, respect and appreciate each and every volunteer that gets involved.

ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED TO WORK ON PARADE DAY, FRIDAY 17th  MARCH!

Annual Niamh Crosby Memorial Run: The annual Niamh Crosby Memorial Run will take place on Easter Sunday, April 9th . Registration will take place at Enagh House, on the Bailieborough/Virginia Rd., from 10am and the run will commence at 12 noon. All bikes welcome and entry fee is €20.

This year our fundraiser will help contribute to two projects in cancer care and treatment in St James Hospital, where Niamh received her care.

Our fundraiser will contribute to the purchase of a bladder scanner which will help patients with their care and diagnosis and also for the development and launching of a survivorship care plan for patients. This will be of huge benefit to all women in treatment as it will allow the hospital to help them on an individual basis in managing issues that may arise for them as a result of their cancer surgery or treatment.

Bailieborough Craft Group: Our Craft Group takes place every Friday morning in the Library.  Looking forward to seeing all the ladies! New members are very welcome – we would love to see you!

Bailieborough Library: The Changing Seasons Peer Support Network’s workshop will take place at Bailieborough Library on Thursday March 16that 12:30pm. Artist Kim Doherty will facilitate the afternoon. This is part of the

‘Hello How Are You’ campaign, which aims to open up conversations about mental health and encourage us all to check in with each other and see how we are. This will be followed on by an Arts Wellness Workshop.

The Network is open to any artist, youth or health worker who would like to participate in a fun arts activity facilitated by experienced peers. The aim of the Network is to support artists making work and facilitators who work with people through the arts in community, youth and health contexts.

East Cavan Swim Club: An extremely busy and successful night at the PTL finals in Craigavon on Saturday evening last. Super swimmers with PBs for every swimmer – well done Alana, Kerry, Lian, Mason, Daibhi, Aoibheann, Dearbhla, Roisin, Katie.

We had a nice haul of medals too, for Alana (gold and silver), Kerry (silver), Lian (silver and bronze), Mason (bronze), Katie (silver and bronze), Aoibheann (silver and bronze), Roisin (two bronze).

We also had new consideration and qualifying times for the Irish Summer Nationals in Limerick and Dublin – congratulations Alana (first ever, well done ), Katie, Aoibheann and Roisin, with Lian confirming hers.

Special mention to Daibhi, Mason, Kerry and Lian for hastily making a relay team.

Many thanks to Janis for coming and finally thank you to the swimmers and supporters ( especially the Sungals boys and Meabh Taaffe ) for supporting each other through every swim.

This was the closing event of this seasons PTLs so a final thank you to everyone who has been involved throughout the season.

‘Jims’ Day’–Golf Tournament in Memory of Jim Gorman: Upcoming Event in Memory of Jim Gorman, taking place at Mannan Castle Golf Club, Donaghmoyne, Carrickmacross, on Saturday, April 8th 2023. Tee Times are from 9.30am to 1.00pm. Entry fees are €50 per player and €200 per team.

Proceeds in aid of the Oncology Unit in Cavan General Hospital .

Bailieborough Celtic A.F.C: Training for the Under 9’s has resumed at the Vale Grounds on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm. With a large turnout each week, the Club would really encourage and appreciate parents getting involved.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to son, John, daughter Olive, sons in law David and Paul, grandchildren Sean, Stephen, Olivier and Aimee, brother Liam, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousin May, relatives, and friends on the death of Una Martin, (née Evans), formerly of Brookwood Heights, Artane, Dublin and Bailieborough, Co. Cavan (who died in the loving care of Raheny House Nursing home, Dublin) on  Friday, March 3rd, 2023.

Una was predeceased by her husband John and beloved daughter Mairead.

Una’s Funeral Mass took place in Our Lady Mother of Divine Grace, Raheny on Wednesday, March 8th followed by cremation in Dardistown, North County Dublin.

Knockbride Variety Show‘, will take place on Thursday, 30th , Friday 31st  of March and Saturday 1st  of April 2023 in Tunnyduff Hall. This year’s show is in aid of SOSAD Cavan and The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Adults €10, Children (u12) €5. Doors open 8pm, show starts 8.30pm. Your support is greatly appreciated.

‘Climb with Charlie’, Anniversary:  Kevin Carolan intends to climb Croagh Patrick on the anniversary of  ‘Climb with Charlie’ but unfortunately this year Charlie admits he won’t be able to “climb a mountain again” but he asks everyone on Sunday 2nd  April to light a candle.

Indoor Bowls: Indoor Bowls take place in the Community Centre, Chapel Road every Wednesday evening at 8.00pm. New members most welcome.

Bailieborough Shamrocks G.F.C.:  Please remember that the Shamrocks Bingo takes place in the Club House at St. Anne’s Park and also online every Tuesday at 8.00pm. Great prizes to be won!

Walk, Jog or Run: Run, walk or jog is back at the Chapel car park (Lakeside) at 8pm, every Monday and Wednesday evenings. All levels of fitness welcome. Please contact Tony at 086 399 3430 for further information.

Book Club: In March, the Bailieborough Library Book Club will be reading and discussing ‘Nora’ by Nuala O’Connor. New members are always welcome and copies of this title are available in the branch. The next Book Club meeting will take place in the Library on Tuesday, March 28th at 6.30pm.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club –  Hurling News 13th March 2023

Membership; Membership for the 2023 season is now due. Please have it up to date as soon as possible as we rejig all our playing groups for the new season. Lots of new players, so lots of new opportunities for success.

Seniors; Inter county

A wonderful result for Cavan with a 0-21 to 2-11 win over favourites Leitrim on Sunday in the NHL. At a minimum they have qualified for the semi final and depending on the result between Leitrim and Longford next week could even be in the final which is great news either way. Well done to Jack, Canice, Nicky, Rory, Colin, Conor, Cian and Declan keeping up the ECG flag flying on the squad.

The first round of the club spring league v Latton was lost to the weather and will be rescheduled.

Club Senior training on Mondays at 8pm at the astro at Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA. All are welcome.

Under 13/15/17; Club training will ramp up over the coming weeks especially when  the bright evenings return.

Under 11; Great numbers for this group on Monday at 7pm on the astro.

Under 7/9; Both groups going well. Both on a wee break for the St.Patricks weekend and will return in the coming weeks.

Monday’s; Club training U11/13/15 7pm on the astro at Bailieborough Shamrocks. Club Senior training 8pm Bailieborough astro. All sessions €3 each please.
