Bailieborough Poetry Festival 2018:
The 6th Bailieborough Poetry Festival will take place this weekend from Thursday, 4th to 7th October. Building on previous years’ events there will be a fresh batch of poets, artists, readers and musicians.
Bailieborough Poetry Festival Programme of events:
THURSDAY 4th October-Bailieborough Library 7pm.
This year’s festival will open with a collaboration between artist Ruth McDonnell and LitLab writing group. This exhibition will feature poetry from the LitLab members responding to works from the artist’s studio. The exhibition and festival will be officially opened by Prof. Iggy McGovern.
This event will include a reading of selected poems by members of LitLab and will finish across the road in The Square Bar with more words and music by local artists.
FRIDAY 5th October- Murtagh’s Lounge- 7.30pm
‘Poetry in the lounge’
Brendan McCann will read from his recently published collection of poems, ‘Erne Valley’, which is an amazing chronicle of poems over decades of the poets’ life. He is a retired school principal and playwright.
Enda Wyley is a poet and children’s’ author and has five poetry collections to her name. She is a recipient of the Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh fellowship for her poetry and is a member of Aosdána.
An open mic will follow and the night will be rounded off with music and poetry from local artist Conor Maguire.

2.30 pm. The Irish Writers Centre launch their Poetry master class series.
This unique course commencing in Bailieborough Library on October 13th offers new, emerging and professional poets an inside look at the craft and processes of those who have previously excelled at the form. This series will feature Moyra Donaldson, Noel Monahan and Colm Keegan. Taking place over six weeks, each poet will deliver a masterclass on a theme of their choice. The launch of this series will include a reading by Noel Monahan.
4.00 pm. Bailieborough Poetry Prize Presentation and reading of winning poems. The judge this year is Noel Monahan.

Bailieborough Parish Harvest Celebration:
The annual Harvest Celebration Service will take place in Bailieborough Church of Ireland on this Sunday 7th October at 7:30pm. There is an open invitation to all the community as we gather to thank God for his provision this year. There will also be morning services in Shercock and Mullagh at 9:30am and Knockbride at 12noon. All welcome.
Mondays (during term time): Badminton, Bailieborough Church of Ireland Hall; 7-8pm for primary students, 8-9pm for secondary students.
Castle Lake Development Works:
Works on new trails and parking at Castle Lake in Bailieborough got underway on Monday last. A new trail will be developed through the new Peace Forest in the area, as well as other improvements to the public spaces.
For the foreseeable future, access to the Castle Lake, Car Park at Drumkeery and Lake Trails will be closed to the public for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Limited access will be available from the Cavan Road. Signs will be up within the Forest notifying you of Walk Closures. Please respect them, due to the potential for injury or disruption of work.
Works will be taking place on upgrading of the Car Park and Trails and development of a new trail through the recently planted Peace Forest. There will be heavy machinery working for a period of 4 weeks clearing drains and upgrading trails damaged by erosion. Please inform any friends and family of this notice. Bailieborough School of Music:
The School of Music AGM postponed to Thursday, 4th October at 9pm in Bailie Hotel due to the sad passing of founding committee member Joe Larkin, RIP.

Deepest Sympathy:
Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Patricia, sons, Gerard, Tom, Noel, Alan, and Kevin, daughters: Eilish, Katriona and Lorraine, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, adored grandchildren, nephews, nieces and relatives and many friends, on the death of Joseph Larkin, Lisball, Bailieborough, Co Cavan who passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, 26th September 2018, in his 96th year, in the loving care of his family. Joe’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church on Friday morning, September 28th with burial afterwards in St Anne’s Cemetery.

Well done to local girl Leanne Kiernan who scored once again for West Ham Ladies when they recorded their first Women’s Super League win of the season against Yeovil on Sunday last. West Ham won the game 2—1 with Leanne scoring their first goal.

October—Month of the Rosary:
The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto on the Virginia Road every evening at 7.30pm, except on Saturdays. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.
Confirmation Parent’s Meeting:
A meeting of parents who would like their children—presently in 6th class in St. Anne’s, St. Felim’s and the Model National Schools—to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next year, will take place in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough tomorrow night, Thursday, October 4th at 8.00pm.

We are approaching the start of the yearly festivities and I would like to ask if when doing your Autumn cleaning that if you come across items, outfits, decorations that are in reasonable condition for either Halloween or Christmas that you donate them to us. Thank you for your fantastic response to our need for paper and plastic carrier bags, it has helped us out enormously, Also we will be opening all day Saturday 10am –5pm from Saturday 13th October.

Thank You to all who attended our ‘A Million Dreams’ show on Friday night in St Anne’s Church in Bailieborough in aid of Down Syndrome Centre North East. East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 1st October 2018
Under 7/9/11; Due to the extended season for the U13/15/17s and adult sides indoor hurling will be postponed until we get these lads finished. All will receive a text when we are ready to go.
Under 13; Three rounds of Ulster blitzes coming up to finish out the season.
Under 15; Huge congratulations to our U15 squad who finished out the Monaghan season in style picking up the Shield with victory over Monaghan Harps on Tuesday last in Cloghan. A great team and squad performance. Well done to all.

A significant step for the club as we fielded at competitive adult level for the very first time on Sunday last on the 3G v Pearse Óg. Great to be able to field at this level at last. We still have a long way to go and will learn a lot from this year but we are now fielding at all levels from U7 to adult which is significant for a Cavan hurling club. The very best wishes to the Pearse Óg player who sustained a serious, accidental, injury in the game. Next up is a game v long time Cavan serial champions Mullahoran next week. Well done to all involved.
