/in News /by PetraBailieborough Midsummer Festival and Town Events: Bailieborough MidSummer Festival is back. We’re so excited to announce we are back for the first time since 2019 on Sunday, July 24th. Full details to follow soon.
Vintage Cycle (High Nelly): A Cavan man who celebrated his 80th birthday with a nearly 20 kilometre Charity Cycle has raised over €3,000 for a local special educational needs school.
Greg O’Reilly undertook t he fundraiser on his vintage 1960s bike in aid of Holy Family Special School, Cootehill, where his grandson is a pupil.
He said that he’s delighted to raise funds for a school that does “trojan work”.
On Friday 20th May, Gregory O’Reilly presented a cheque to Rachel Moynagh, Principal Holy Family School with a cheque for €3,310 proceeds raised.
Greg got a lovely welcome in Baileborough on the morning of the cycle and wishes to thank everyone for donating.
East Cavan Swim Club: Very proud of these swimmers representing East Cavan Swim Club at an International meet in Glasgow over the weekend.
Congratulations to Adrienne Keuck, Finn Longmore, Johann Behme, Katie Mulvey and Oscar Longmore on fantastic swims in the Glasgow International Meet, held over the weekend. Very exciting to see Johann reach the Junior finals in the 50m fly and to see Oscar winning his heat in the 50m back.
A great weekend, enjoyed by swimmers and families, hopefully our club can look forward to more of these in the future.

From Bailieborough take Cavan road for 3 km, turn right for Cootehill Road R191 , At 2km take a right at sign for Skeaghville, continue straight on this road for approx 2km. Walk commencing at 7.15pm.

Killan Community Games: Killan community games (incorporating Bailieborough and Shercock) will be entering the Girls soccer competitions at U12 and U15 age groups. We’ll be holding open training sessions over the next few weeks, where any interested girls from the Bailieborough and Shercock area are welcome to come along, join in and have some fun. Congratulations: Congratulations to the Bailieborough Shamrocks u12 girls Divison 2 side who won the Spring League final by Bailieborough 0-18 v 0-09 Mullahoran in Crosskeys on Tuesday night last. Well done to the players, management and supporters on what was a very good final.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to wife Celestina, daughter Anne (Theou), sons Gibson (Chie) and Nico (Fatima), grandchildren Trinity, Patrick, Alexia and Kiel, sister Elvie, brother Benjamin, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends in Ireland and the Philippines on the death of Fidel Alhambra, Woodview, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan who passed away on Friday, 20th May 2022 peacefully, at Cavan General Hospital. Fidel’s Funeral Mass was held in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough on Wednesday, May 25th followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:
Congratulations to the children from St. Annes and the Model Schools who made their First Communion last weekend. Thanks to their teachers, Ms. Tessa O’Riordan and the Principal, Mr. Corcoran and the school choir led by Mrs. Mary McCabe for all their hard work and to the Pastoral Assistant, Andrea Connolly for her work liaising on behalf of the Parish with the children from both schools.

Tractor Run: Sillan Vintage Club will hold a tractor run on Saturday 11th June 2022. Vintage and classic cars and bikes are also welcome and will travel a separate route. The run will commence at Corglass Church, Bailieborough, A82 NH74 at 4pm with registration from 2.30pm. Entry fee €20 with proceeds to fund a AED Defibrillator for Corglass Church and surrounding areas. Refreshments afterwards in the church hall. All support greatly appreciated. /in News /by PetraWe wanted to say a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone that took part, assisted, donated money and sponsored food, drink and prizes for the Motorbike run on Easter Sunday in memory of Niamh.
We are delighted to say we have raised over €7800 in which this money will be going to the upgrade of equipment in Niamh’s Comfort Room in St James Hospital.
Many families and patients will benefit from these upgrades and and we are looking forward to sharing the pictures with you all when completed.
We are having a presentation of a cheque at Enagh House on Saturday next, 28th May at 9pm and everyone is welcome.

May—Month of the Holy Rosary: The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto on the Virginia Road for the month of May, at 7.30pm. No Rosary on Saturdays. Please come and join in prayers for peace in the World, especially in the Ukraine, for all the sick, for vocations and your own intentions. Everyone welcome.
Library: Book Launch: The book ‘Lost Landscapes and Thresholds’ vol ii will be launched at the Library on Tuesday, May 31st at 6.30pm. The book was a project, led by author and Tyrone native Anthony J Quinn, and funded by Creative Ireland and Cavan County Council. The aim was to recreate the landscape we grew up in, be it of Cavan, Tyrone, or further afield, its features and buildings, as well as stories about local customs, superstitions, family events, working life and local characters. Refreshments will be served on the night and all are welcome on what promises to be a lovely evening.

Well Done: Congratulations to Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan, who has been crowned Liverpool’s Women’s ‘Player of the Year’. Leanne’s 13 goals for the season, helped ensure that Liverpool Ladies, won the Championship title and earned promotion to the Women’s Super League. Well done, Leanne!

Congratulations: Congratulations and Well Done to the Bailieborough Shamrocks players, Sarah Cullen, Caoimhe Clarke and Aoibheann Mulligan who were part of the Cavan Under 16 Girls side who defeated Tyrone Under 16’s in the Platinum Ulster Championship final by Cavan U16s: 7-10(31), Tyrone U16s: 0-9(9) in in St. Tiernach’s Park, Clones on Sunday last. /in News /by PetraMass for Students preparing for Exams: On Thursday morning, May 19th at 11.30am, Bishop Martin Hayes will celebrate Mass in St. Anne’s Church, Bailieborough for students preparing for the State Exams. In attendance at the Mass will be a representative number of students from Bailieborough Community School and other secondary schools in the Diocese. Many of the schools in the Diocese will link with the Mass via the Parish webcam. All parishioners are invited to attend the Mass. It is one way that the Parish can show their support for it’s young people at what can be an anxious and stressful time.

Bailieborough Creative Hub: Bailieborough Creative Hub are hosting an event for this years ‘Cruiniu na nOg’. Over four Saturday workshops (May 21st, 28th and June 4th and 11th, from 11am to 1.00pm) in Bailieborough Library. The ‘Art’ of Visual Storytelling project aims to celebrate local stories, history, myths and folklore from Bailieborough, Co. Cavan in ‘Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands’. Artists from Bailieborough Creative Hub will guide the children through a selection of ‘stories’ to discover some history, myths and folklore, introduce them to design processes, start an Art journal, experience a selection of mixed media and a variety of creative techniques with the aim of producing a final artwork, which will be exhibited.
The Workshops are for children aged 9 to 16 and are FREE—however, children will be expected to attend all four workshops to complete their Artwork. To book a space, please email: bailieboroughcreativehub@gmail.com
