Cavan, who passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, 5th February 2022.
Jimmy’s Funeral Mass took place in St Brigid’s Church, Knockbride West (Tunnyduff) on Monday, February 7th with burial afterwards in Knockbride East Cemetery.

Local Man to walk with Charlie Bird: The community wishes local man, Kevin Carolan health and fitness on Saturday April 2nd, when he walks alongside his friend of recent times, Charlie Bird to the very top of Croagh Patrick, Kevin says,”everyday across this country people are battling there own mountains with physical and mental issues”. He’s asking everyone who feels able, to travel to Mayo or do the walk in your own surroundings. Kevin will fly the flag for Bailieborough and Cavan on Saturday April 2nd. East Cavan Swim Club: Five of our swimmers travelled to Bangor to represent Bailieborough Community School in the Swim Ulster Schools Cup and Championships.
Well done to Roisin Pierce, Aoibheann Taaffe, Lian Moore, Anna Behme and Mark Jones.
Special mention to Anna reaching finals in both her strokes and to Mark on his first competition.
Great teamwork from everyone ensured a successful and enjoyable day for everyone, with the girls relay team swimming up an age level but placing a very successful 6th overall.

Darkness into Light, Bailieborough: With things getting a lot closer to normal we can all look forward to Darkness into Light 2022. Save the Date – 7th May 2022 4.15am! Registration February 2022. Details to follow soon. Church Fundraiser: St Mary’s Church, Newcastle, Moynalty, Kells Co. Meath is in a state of disrepair; As it is an essential part of our community, a committee has been formed to help raise funds for the restoration of the following: 1. Heating system upgrade. 2. Refurbishment of the gutters. 3. External Powerwashing. 4. Internal and external painting. We hope to restore the chapel to it’s former glory. As you can appreciate, all of these restoration works will be costly but are in great need to save the building from any further damage. Once relevant funding is obtained, works will commence on the heating system. That’s where we need your help. All Donations, no matter how large or small, are greatly appreciated. Contact any committee member or go to the committee’s ‘Gofund me’ page on Facebook. ‘Run Of The Leprechaun’s’: ‘Run of the Leprechauns’ will take place on Thursday, March 17th starting from Bailieborough Community Centre. Registration takes place at 11am and the race takes place at 12pm. Distances of 3k, 5k and 10k. Entry fee is € 5 per person. Facepainting and prizes and music and fun along the way. All proceeds go to the Bailieborough MidSummer Festival 2022. Leanne on target again!: Bailieborough native and Liverpool and Republic of Ireland player, Leanne Kiernan resumed her scoring ways on Sunday last, when she scored two first half goals in Liverpool’s 3—0 home win over Coventry United. These goals bring Leanne’s total to twelve League goals scored in the season, so far. Liverpool Ladies now lead the Championship by nine points from second placed Charlton with eight games left to play. Next up for the ‘Reds’ is a home game against Sunderland on Sunday next. East Cavan Gaels GAA Club –Congratulations to our own Rory Farrell who made his Senior intercounty debut for Cavan hurlers v Fermanagh on Sunday last. Along with Jack Barry, East Cavan Gaels now have two men on the team. Well done to both. Hopefully more to follow them in the years ahead. Deepest Sympathy:Bridget Farrell (née Donnellan) of Belville, Ballinagh, formerly of Blackhills, Bailieborough, passed away peacefully at Castlemanor Nursing Home on Saturday, January 22nd. Predeceased by her father John and mother Margaret Donnellan, brothers Sean and Matt, sisters Rosemary, Angie and Margaret, and reunited with her devoted husband Tom, very deeply regretted by her heartbroken daughter Linda (McSherry), Son in Law Charles, grandchildren Emma (Owen Glennon) and Paul McSherry (Anne-marie), great-Granddaughter Ella, Great-grandsons, Charlie, Thomas and Robin, sister Patricia Gilsenan and brother in law Raymond (Bailieborough), her brother Philip Donnellan and sister in law Agnes, Ballyjamesduff, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Bridget’s Funeral Mass took place in St Phelims Church, Ballinagh on Tuesday, 25th January, with burial in New Cemetery, Crossdoney Road. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.

East Cavan Swim Club: Congratulations to our senior swimmers on the weekend before last, who were all swimming superbly at the Swim Ulster Open Meet, first long course of the season – well done Anna, Kerry, Adrienne, Kate, Finn, Oscar and Katie.
Special congrats to Anna, achieving an Irish Summer Nationals (Division 1) time for the first time , with Division 2 times for Kerry, Adrienne, Kate, Finn and Oscar.
Also, Well Done to Alana Carling who was flying the flag solo for East Cavan in Larne the weekend before and who achieved some amazing Pbs. Well done Alana.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort: Thanks to everyone who gave so generously to the ‘Singing Santa’s’ on Christmas Eve. A total of €6,685 was raised for this very worthy cause.
Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to children John, Mary O’Connor, Bridget Ford, granddaughters Lily Mae, and Molly Mae, sisters, Christine Gregory, Ita Hamilton, Annette Dorian, Bridie Quinlan, Maisie McIntyre, Teresa Craig, brothers, Danny, Edward and Patsy, brother in laws and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends on the death of John James O’Connor, Southampton, England and late, Noalgh, Shercock, Co Cavan, aged 87 who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 1st December 2021 at his home in Southampton, England. Predeceased by his brothers Michael, Oliver and Leo and his sisters Elizabeth, Nancy and Kitty.
John James’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Tuesday, January 18th 2022 and afterwards his remains were laid to rest in St. Annes Cemetery.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 24th January 2022Seniors and U17; Positive players meeting last week outlining the year ahead. We welcome all the lads back including some new players to the club and especially those ECG men who move up to adult hurling for the first time this year after serving the apprenticeship all the way along with us! Cavan Senior/ U20; We wish the East Cavan representatives on both squads well in the year ahead. Under 13/15; Lads scheduled to return to training in February with Táin Leagues in the Spring for both sides. Under 11; Training will resume in February. Under 7/9; The lads in both groups had a great return on Saturday in Killinkere with the indoor proving a great success. Lots of new players and lots of room so even more are welcome in the weeks and months ahead. The entire East Cavan region is now well represented on all our squads.
