The Cavankayakarun Challenge 2015
/in Activities, News /by PetraThis unique fun event starts at Gallonray House , Cootehill with a 5k run/walk, followed by a 1k kayak race, then run a short distance to the Bike Transition area and finishing with a 15k cycle.
The emphasis is on FUN, so whether you are an experienced athlete looking for a serious challenge or a total beginner looking for a bit of ‘craic’ then you will not want to miss this event.
The race is open to individuals or if you feel all three events may be too much … why not enter a relay team or three to share the load?
This route takes you on to the Shercock-Canningstown Road going towards Canningstown. At Canningstown turn right for Cootehill and follow the rolling Drumlins to Maudabawn turning right for the Co-op and back to Gallonray (Start/Finish).
It is a hilly 5km run, with the infamous Peppers Bray signalling a long downhill to the lake and Transition 1.
The kayak course is 1km, a long loop of Barnagrow Lake returning to Transition 1. You will be assisted out of your kayak and life jacket and must run a further 400m to Transition 2. You will have a choice of sit on or sit in kayaks. It is recommended that you get some experience paddling a sit in kayak prior to the race. You must put on your helmet prior to un-racking your bike. You will not be allowed to leave Transition 2 unless your race number matches your bike number. The Cavan Kayakarun Challenge Bike section is 15kms long.

Stolen Items from St. Annes Cemetery
/in News /by PetraIt has been reported that a number of items particularly good quality ceramic pots have been stolen from plots in St. Anne’s Cemetery. This is an appalling act and very upsetting for the families affected. The Community Text Alert Group will be erecting a sign in the Cemetery shortly and anyone noticing any suspicious activity there is asked to report it immediately. It has been suggested that families that have valuable items on their plots should have them engraved with their family name or with the name of the deceased person in order to ensure that they cannot be sold on or used by others.
