Taoiseach visits Bailieborough:

 Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar T.D. visited the town on Friday last as part of a tour of Cavan and Monaghan. He visited the ASD Learning Unit at Bailieborough Community School, he also received a brief preview of the Bailieborough Community School’s upcoming musical, ‘Annie Get Your Gun ‘and he also visited the school’s Sports Hall for which there are future plans to redevelop it. One of local photographer, Ollie Gargan’s photographs was presented to An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, at Bailieborough Community School. The Taoiseach also stopped off at the Bailieborough Leisure Centre, where he greeted management and staff. He then finished his visit by going to the former courthouse, which is currently under development as a new community facility.

 

Book Launch:

 Local author, Jacqui Kelly, will launch her debut novel ‘A Man of Some Importance’ at the Library on Thursday, October 18th at 7.30pm. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

 

Hardtimes Chorus Concert:

The Down Syndrome Centre, North East, are delighted to announce that the recent Hardtimes Chorus Concert—‘A Million Dreams’—raised a total of €5,279.50. Sincere thanks to the Hardtimes Chorus, their special guests ‘Kudos’ and ‘The Song Sisters’, MC Mr. Peter Murtagh and The Irish Red Cross. Special thanks to Fr. Michael Router for the use of both St. Annes Church and the Parish Centre, to all the businesses in Bailieborough, Shercock and Maudabawn, who sold tickets and donated spot prizes and to everyone who supported the event, either by buying a ticket and/or making a donation. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

 

Bailieborough Tidy Towns:

 The Annual General Meeting of the Bailieborough Tidy Towns will take place in the Bailie Hotel on Tuesday evening, October 23rd at 8pm. All welcome to come along. More volunteers wanted to help out. Come along and represent your area of the town.

 

Bailieborough Parish Church:

Bailieborough Parish Church Concert: featuring – Philomena Begley, Gloria, Boxcar Brian, Liam Kelly Music and The Hot Country Band in the Hotel Bailie on Friday 9th  November – Doors at 7.30pm – Admission €20. Tickets available at the Hotel Bailie in advance or at the door on the night.

Mondays (during term time): Badminton, Bailieborough Church of Ireland Hall; 7-8pm for primary students, 8-9pm for secondary students.

 

Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.:

What a great day we had on Saturday at our underage presentation in the Hideout. 72 players received their League medals. A big thank you to all the players and parents for making this day a great success. Also thank you to all the sponsors who gave spot prizes and not to forget our coaches who work so hard with the kids. Well Done to all.

 

Castle Lake Development Works:

Access to the Castle Lake, Car Park at Drumkeery and Lake Trails remains closed to the public for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Limited access will be available from the Cavan Road. Signs will be up within the Forest notifying you of Walk Closures. Please respect them, due to the potential for injury or disruption of work.

Works will be taking place on upgrading of the Car Park and Trails and development of a new trail through the recently planted Peace Forest. There will be heavy machinery working for a period of 4 weeks clearing drains and upgrading trails damaged by erosion. Please inform any friends and family of this notice. Learn it LEGO Education Junior Robotics workshop introduces students to the world of robots through the use of LEGO. Students will design, construct and modify robots, and will learn how to program their robots to carry out specific tasks, developing workflow skills, learning about logic, loops, switches, blocks and more.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort: Annual Variety Concert:

The Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Annual Variety Concert will take place in the Community Centre on Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd, commencing at 8.30pm. A fun filled concert of Music, Drama, Dance and Comedy!! There will be a raffle on the Saturday night for a Limousin Heifer—kindly donated by Patsy and Jean Farrelly. Tickets are on sale locally. A night not to be missed and your support would be greatly appreciated.

 

Bridge: BRIDGE LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS

Bridge lessons for beginners will take place in Hotel Bailie, Bailieborough, at 7.30pm, each Monday night, commencing Monday, October 22nd.

Everybody welcome.

Bridge takes place every Tuesday evening in the Hotel Bailie at 8.00pm. New members are always most welcome.

 

October—Month of the Rosary:

The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto on the Virginia Road every evening at 7.30pm, except on Saturdays. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

 

World Mental Health Day:

As part of World Mental Health Day, the Bailieborough Walking group hosted a ‘Walk and Talk’ event in Bailieborough which featured a walk around Bailieborough Forest followed by tea in the Bailieborough Development Association Centre. Bailieborough Walking Group, the Model School, St. Anne’s N.S. and visitors from Camphill in Ballybay along with local representatives took part in the event. Also well done to the members of the Bailieborough Mental Health Association who had a stand in Tesco, Bailieborough on Friday last.

 

Vincent’s Shop:

We are approaching the start of the yearly festivities and I would like to ask if when doing your Autumn cleaning that if you come across items, outfits, decorations that are in reasonable condition for either Halloween or Christmas that you donate them to us. Thank you for your fantastic response to our need for paper and plastic carrier bags, it has helped us out enormously. We will be opening all day on Saturday from 10am –5pm from on Saturday , 13th October.

 

Adult Irish Dance and Ceilí Classes:

The service continues on every Tuesday, at 1.30pm in the Library— providing information, advice and advocacy supports to everyone on Social welfare, employment, Pensions, Health, Tax etc.  No appointment necessary.

 

Mattress Recycling:

On Saturday next, October 20th Mattresses can be brought to the waste recycling facility in Bailieborough for free. It’s part of an anti-dumping initiative to combat the illegal dumping of mattresses across the countryside. Household customers will able to recycle up to four mattresses for free.

 

The ’Open Door Sessions’:

This month’s ‘Open Door Sessions’ will take place downstairs in Nixy’s, The Square Bar, Bailieborough at 9.00pm on Friday 19th October 2018. The artistes taking part this month are Paul McCann (Singer/Songwriter), Orlagh Meegan-Gallagher (Visual Artist) and Lily Burke (Singer/Songwriter). All welcome.

Walk, Jog, Run or Crawl!

Run, walk, crawl or jog every Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Community Centre, Chapel Road, Bailieborough at 8pm.  It’s free!!!! And there is no catch! All newcomers welcome.  Anyone want to try kayaking? If you do, be at the Town Lake at 7.00pm. Tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits afterwards. All newcomers welcome.

 

St. Anne’s Nation School: Fun Run:

St. Annes National School is organising a ‘Fun Run’ on Sunday next, October 21st, commencing at the Community Centre. Registration will be between 11am and 12 noon. Entry fees are 5 for individuals and 10 per family. Individuals and families are invited to walk or run the 1K or 5 K routes. People are encouraged to wear fancy dress for the event and raffle tickets will be on sale for the St. Anne’s N.S. Halloween Hamper Draw. This promises to be a colourful occasion to which the whole school is looking forward to. We would love you to join us for this fun event.

 

‘Annie Get Your Gun’:

Bailieborough Community School presents ‘Annie Get Your Gun’, in the Community School from Thursday, October 25th to Saturday, 27th. St. Anne’s Folk Choir:

Practice for the Folk Choir take place every Tuesday evening at 8.15pm, in St. Anne’s Church. New members would be very much appreciated and welcomed.

 

‘Nightwalk’:

A Walk in aid of ‘Aware’ and ‘Parkinson’s’ will be taking place on Friday, 26th of October, leaving from the Royal Breffni, Tierworker at 7.15pm.  There will be a choice of a long walk or a short walk. East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 15th October 2018

Under 7/9/11;

 Due to the extended season for the U13/15/17s and adult sides indoor hurling will be postponed until we get these lads finished. Foundation hurling award coming up. See below. All will receive a text when we are ready to go.

Under 13;

Three rounds of Ulster blitzes coming up to finish out the season. First round scheduled for next weekend tbc.

Under 15;

 All roads lead to Breffni on Thursday next as we play old friends Cootehill in the U15 Championship final. Not much between these sides so it should be an entertaining encounter.

Senior;

The final round of the Senior Championship takes place this Saturday v Cootehill on the 3G all times venues tbc.

Bag pack;

 Our annual Tesco bag pack takes place this coming Saturday from 10-6pm. Volunteers required for all slots. WhatsApp sent to all. We need as many as possible as this fundraiser pays for kits, medal presentations etc.

 

Foundation Hurling course;

 Will be held on Sat 4th November. We NEED more parents to become qualified in order to be fully compliant with GAA codes of practice. WhatsApp out to all. Please reply. If enough volunteers, then this can be provided locally.
