Niamh Crosby, Easter Sunday, Memorial Run: Peter, Anna Mai, Sarah Jane, Ciaran and family would like to give a massive ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who took part in Niamh’s Memorial Run on Easter Sunday. Between registrations, donations and the auction, we have raised 6,510 for St. James Hospital, which will go towards equipment and services of patient care in the ward Niamh had been so well looked after in.  Again, many, many thanks to you all.

Public Consultation meeting in Bailieborough:  Great to see a large crowd in attendance at the Town Centre first public consultation on Tuesday night last.  Really great contributions and suggestions put forward for a master plan for the future of the town and to help create a more vibrant place to live, work and visit.  Cllr Sarah O’Reilly ‘wants to recognise the work that Caroline Brady our Town Regeneration Officer and Frank Cooney, Architect and his team have done with the support of Brendan Jennings and Cavan County Council to date.

Thanks to Cathoirleacht of CCC , Cllr John Paul Feeley for travelling from Blacklion to be in Bailieborough on Tuesday evening. 

I know that this project is in good hands and I am excited for what we can all achieve together in Bailieborough with further public consultation and supports’.

Bailieborough Walking Group: 

Wednesday, June 7th:  Skeagh: Medium Walk, approximately 1.5 hours. Leaving Tesco carpark at 7.00pm. Meeting at carpark on left just beside Skeaghville Chalets. From Bailieborough take the Cavan Road for 3kms, turn right for the Cootehill Road (R191). At 2kms, take a right turn at the sign for Skeaghville , then continue straight on this road for approx 2kms. Walk commencing at 7.15pm.

Wednesday, June 14th : Corraneary/Ardmone: Medium Walk, approximately 1.5 hours. Leaving Tesco Carpark at 6.50pm. Walk commencing at Corraneary Presbyterian Church carpark at 7.15pm. From Canningstown drive towards Shercock, after 2.7kms turn left at crossroads. Drive 1km. Carpark on the left.  All Welcome.

Blessing of the Graves, 2023: The Blessing of the Graves will take place in St. Annes Cemetery, Bailieborough on Sunday, September 3rd at 12 noon.

The Blessing of the Graves will take place in Killann Old Cemetery on Saturday, August 19th at 7.00pm and the Blessing of the Graves will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Shercock on Sunday, August 20th, immediately after 11.30am, Mass.

Deepest Sympathy: Deepest Sympathy is extended to Mother Annie, brother Peter (Brigid), sisters Jackie (Patrick) and Bridget (Cora), aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and a wide circle of friends on the death of Declan Smith, 10 Árd Na Greine, Kells, Meath / and formerly of Tandragee, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan.Declan passed away peacefully at our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 29th 2023.

Declan was predeceased by his father, PJ, brother Andrew and sister-in-law Diane.  Declan’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Colmcille’s Church, Kells, on Thursday, June 1st , which was followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

Congratulations: Congratulations to local man, Kevin Carolan who completed his first ever marathon in Cork city. Great adceivment.

Bailieborough Craft Group: Our Craft Group takes place every Friday morning in the Library.  Looking forward to seeing all the ladies! New members are very welcome – we would love to see you!

Bailieborough Library: Book Club: In June the Bailieborough Library Book Club will be reading ‘The Silence of the Girls’ by Pat Barker. The next Book Club meeting will take place in the Library on Tuesday, June 27th at 6.30pm.

All are welcome and copies of the book are available in the Bailieborough Branch.

Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the first Thursday of each month on Thursday July 6th 2023 from 2pm-4.30pm. No appointment is necessary.

FREE study space and WIFI available here for all who are in the middle of studying. Other services for students include printing, photocopying, local history/history resources, reference books, public PCs, staff advice, comfortable warm spaces. All are welcome!

Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to Philomena, daughters Mairéad (John), and Gráinne (Conor), sons Padráig (Sophie) and David (Meghan), grandchildren Emma, Ethan, Finley and Leah on the death of Thomas Clarke, late of Carrickacromin, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 30th 2023. 

Deeply regretted by his brother James (Josie), and sister Kathleen Gilheany (Noel), nieces Anya, Ellen, Jane and nephew Conor, cousins and a large circle of close neighbours and friends.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents Mary Ann and Cornelius.

Thomas’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Patrick’s Church, Carrickallen, Mountain Lodge on Thursday, June 1st 2023 and afterwards Thomas’s remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C: Wishing Bailieboro Celtic U14 girls Grace McKeown and Lucie Gibson the very best, as they set off to Limerick, to participate in the week long Gaynor Cup tournament, alongside their CMUL team mates.  Good luck girls.

The run continues:Bailieboro Celtic took all 3 points as they came out 4-2 winners against local rivals Virginia F.C in a high-scoring encounter to make it 6 wins out of 6!

Bailieborough Community School: All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championship : On Saturday last, Eadaoin Lynch, Grace Gormley, and Shane Mulligan represented Bailieborough Community School in Tullamore.

Eadaoin competed in the Junior Girls 100m and 200m races, finishing 5th  in both events.

Grace competed in the Intermediate Girls Discus, finishing in third position.

Shane Mulligan ran in the Senior Boys 200m.

This competition was a great experience for all three students, and we wish them well for their Ulster Track and Field Championship next weekend.

Bailieborough Shamrocks G.F.C.:   Please remember that the Shamrocks Bingo takes place in the Club House at St. Anne’s Park and also online every Tuesday at 8.00pm. Great prizes to be won!

Walk, Jog or Run:  Run, Walk or Jog is back for the lovely bright evenings at 8pm at the Chapel car park, Lakeshore, Bailieborough on every Monday and Wednesday. It’s a fun, free activity, all newcomers welcome.  Other activities will be added as the weeks go on, like open water swimming, cycling and kayaking. All welcome. 

Taekwondo and Self Defence Classes: Adults and over 16’s Classes take place every Friday evening from 8.00pm in St. Anne’s Community Centre, Chapel Rd., Bailieborough. For further information, please contact 085 127 1979.
