Bailieborough Tidy Towns: 40 hanging baskets were erected last week in the town. Orange and yellow trailing begonias.. to enhance our town. Thanks to all our helpers. We need more help with watering..Contact any Tidy Town member if you want to help.

Bailieborough ‘Active Age’ Group:  Due to the holiday season, the next meeting of the Active Age Group, will be on Tuesday, September 3rd from 2pm to 4pm. Please support the Bailieborough Active Age Group in the Tesco Community Fund by placing your blue tokens in their slot at Tesco. Thank you.

Killann Community Games: Congratulations and well done to the Killann Under 12 girls and Under 14 girls on winning the Cavan County finals last week against St. Pats. The Ulster finals await for these great groups of girls. Well done all!.

Regretted Death: Thomas “Tommy” O’Beirne, Greagharue, Kells Road, Bailieborough, Co Cavan and formerly of Clondalkin, Dublin,  passed away on  Saturday, 8th  June 2024 peacefully, following a short illness, at Cavan General Hospital. Tommy was predeceased by his wife Jean.

 Tommy will be sadly missed by his devoted daughters Brenda, Suzanne and Eileen, brothers, sisters, sons-in-law John and James, grandchildren Anthony, Shauna, Lee, Nicole, Darragh, Cillian and Tadhg, great-grandchildren Luka, Hallie and Zadie-Jean, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A Service of Thanksgiving for Tommy’s life, took place in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan on Tuesday 11th  June.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Ltd: A massive “Thank you ” to the O’ Reilly family who organised the recently held, ‘Breege O’ Reilly’ memorial tournament, raising €30,165.00 for Bailieborough Cancer Comfort .

 Wednesday, June 19th: Townley Hall, Drogheda: Moderate Walk, Approx 1.5 to 2 hours. Leaving Tesco carpark at 6.15pm. Meeting at Townley Hall, Main House, Slane Rd., Drogheda. Walk commencing at 7.15pm.

Wednesday, June 26th : Billis : Moderate Walk:  Approx 1.5 to 2 hours. Leaving Tesco Carpark at 6.45pm. Walk commences at Billis—opposite the Ballyjamesduff Road—on the N3, Cavan/Virginia Road, at 7.15pm. . All welcome.

Bailieborough Shamrocks ‘Golf Classic’: Bailieborough Shamrocks Golf Classic takes place on  July 5th  at Virgina Golf Club. Please contact Sean, Seamus, Gavin or Kyle if you are interested in entering a team or sponsoring a tee box.

Jiving Lessons: Come along and learn to Jive on Thursday nights from 8.00pm to 9.30pm at the Clubhouse at St. Anne’s Park. No partner needed.

Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.

The Club’s  Annual General Meeting takes place in the Club Rooms on Thursday, 11th  July at 7:30 pm.

Bailieboro Celtic AFC is running a Soccer Academy for 3-6 yr olds, commencing on Saturday next, 22nd  June for 4 weeks. Depending on the uptake/interest, it may be run again in the Autumn. Age 3-4 years; 10am to 11am and Age 5-6 years; 11am to 12pm.

Well done to the fantastic group of budding young footballers, who attended our first Soccer training session of the Summer, for Girls aged 6-9yrs, at the Vale last Friday evening. Training sessions will continue throughout the Summer, on Friday evenings from 5.45 to 6.45pm. All girls welcome.

Bailieborough Library:

Craft Group meets every Friday at 10.30am and new members are always welcome.

Line Dancing: Continues in the Courthouse, Lower Main Street, Bailieborough on Tuesday’s, from 8.15pm to 10.00pm. All welcome.

Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the last Wednesday of each month from 2.15pm-4.30pm. .No appointment is necessary.

Used Stamps for the Missions: Please drop any used stamps that you may have into Vincent’s Shop, Main St.

Bailieborough Men’s Shed: Bailieborough ‘Men’s Shed’ is open every Tuesday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm in the Bexcourt Centre, Shercock Road. New members are always most welcome.

Walk, Jog or Run: Now that the evenings are getting longer again, there will be running and walking for all levels,  beginners and advanced. Fun and free, social gathering in the Chapel car park,  Lake Shore,  Bailieborough at 8pm. All old and new people welcome.  Stretch before and afterwards, every Monday and Wednesday evening.  

Breffni Challenge: The Breffni 3 Province Challenge 2024 will take place on Saturday, 5th  August 2024 in Arva.

This year marks the 23rd anniversary of this event and it aims to be bigger than ever, bringing our participants on scenic routes through the 3 Provinces of Ulster, Connaught and Leinster.

This year funds are being raised in aid of The Friends of St Luke’s, Dublin, The National Breast Cancer Research Institute, Galway and the The Cavan/Monaghan Cancer Homecare Association. To date the Breffni 3 Province Challenge event has raised well over €1 million for our charities, and we have hosted participants from every county in Ireland as well as abroad.

There are distances available for all abilities, Half Marathon (Chip-timed), 10k (Chip-timed), 7k and 5k routes (Participants under the age of 12 are ONLY allowed on the 5k).

Also included are the 30k, 50k and 100k cycle routes for those who prefer two wheels to two feet!

All of the events start and end on the market square in Arva, with refreshments available afterwards.

We have very nice t-shirts for all early registrants, and medals for all finishers. This year we are also running a raffle for a Trek road bike.

A historic and entertaining game in Knockbride as we made our debut in the Monaghan Senior League for the very first time. Well done to all on a hard won victory. Round 2 is away to reigning Monaghan Senior Champions Inniskeen on Wednesday at 8.

U8/10/12/14/16/18;

The Under 12s will be away to Latton in the Monaghan league on Sunday next at 11am.

The U14s and U16s prepare for the Fermanagh league which will begin on July 1st for the 14s with alternating weeks mostly with the 16s.

Under 8 and under 10s continue each Wednesday on the astro at Bailieboro Celtic soccer astro.
