Bailieborough News. January 27th 2025. Matthew J. Cullen
Storm Eowyn: Storm Eowyn arrived on Thursday night and wreaked havoc across the country. Bailieborough did not escape the damaging winds. Trees were knocked, power lines brought down, roofs were damaged, fences were knocked down, water supplies were cut off or curtailed and generally life was made a misery for the people living in the town and its environs. As soon as it was safe, the local volunteers and voluntary services were out cutting trees and making areas safe for the E.S.B, to begin the job of restoring power to the area. In an anomily of the power system, some areas of the town lost no power at all, while other areas had no power from 4.00am on Friday morning until 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Thankfully—at the time of writing—most areas of the town have had their power restored.
Some events were cancelled due to the power outages and hopefully they will be rescheduled for a later date. Food shops quickly ran out of the essentials and it was early on Monday morning before they had the chance to replenish supplies. So, a lot of hardship for everybody over the weekend but thankfully no major incidents or loss of life and we can be extremely grateful to all the people who helped get everything up and running again.
