‘Jims’ Day’–Golf Tournament in Memory of Jim Gorman: The Event in Memory of Jim Gorman,will be taking place at Mannan Castle Golf Club, Donaghmoyne, Carrickmacross, on this Saturday, April 13th 2024. Tee Times are from 11.00am to 1.00pm. Entry fees are €35 per player and €140 per team.

Proceeds in aid of the Oncology Unit in Cavan General Hospital.

Congratulations: Congratulations and Well Done to the Friends of Castle Lake and Catchment area who emerged victorious in the Contribution to Local Heritage and Biodiversity category at the Cavan County Council’s Cathaoirleach’s Awards held in the Cavan Crystal Hotel on Thursday night last, 4th  April.

Deepest Sympathy:  The death has occurred of Kevin Lynch, late of Ardmone, Mountain Lodge, Cootehill, Co. Cavan, on Wednesday, 27th  March 2024, peacefully surrounded by his adoring family. Kevin was predeceased by his devoted wife Bonnie. Deeply regretted by his loving family, his daughters Mary Doyle (Farrell), Veronica Smith (Martin), Nuala Rogers (Kieran), Eithne Cooney (Paul), Eileen Church (Pete), Margaret Donohoe (Michael), Una Rogers (Noel), Carmel Lynch and Majella Sheridan (Damien), his adored 22 grandchildren, sons-in-law, his sister Alice Clarke and Rita Lynch, sister-in-law Mary Lynch, nephews, nieces and extended family.

Kevin’s Funeral Mass took place on Easter Sunday in St.Brigid’s Church, Knockbride West and afterwards, Kevins remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

James was predeceased by his adored wife Phyllis and daughter Anne.

James’s Funeral Mass took place on Tuesday, 2nd  April, in the Holy Spirit Church, Greenhills and afterwards, James’s remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan. 

Bailieborough Library: Book Club: Next meeting is on Tuesday, April 30th  at 6.30pm and the book for discussion will be  ‘A Spool of Blue Thread’ by Anne Tyler and is now available at the Library desk. New members are always welcome!

Craft Group meets every Friday at 10.30am and new members are always welcome.

 Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the last Wednesday of each month from 2.15pm-4.30pm. Next month’s is on Wednesday, May 1st.  No appointment is necessary.

Bailieborough Men’s Shed: Bailieborough ‘Men’s Shed’ is open every Tuesday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm in the Bexcourt Centre, Shercock Road. New members are always most welcome.

Regretted Death: The death has occurred of Kathleen O’Brien (née Higgins) in her 97th  year, Beglieve, Bailieborough, Co.Cavan, who passed away on Wednesday 3rd  April 2024, peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Peter (P), her brothers John, Matt and Pete and her sisters Bridget, Margaret and Mary.

Deeply regretted by her loving daughter Ann Kavanagh, son-in-law Barry and grandson Brian, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Kathleen’s Funeral Mass took place in St.Brigid’s Church, Knockbride West, on Friday, April 5th and afterwards, Kathleen’s remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Tractor, Car and Bike Run: A Tractor, car and bike run will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 3.00pm,, leaving from Killann Football pitch. Registration will take place from 1.30pm. Proceeds to works being done on Killann pitch dressing rooms and toilets. €20 entry. Please support.

Darkness into Light, Bailieborough: ‘Darkness into Light’, Bailieborough will take place on the morning of Saturday, May 11th at 4.15am.

REGISTRATION EVENING: We will be holding a registration on Friday 26th  April, in The Lemon Tree bar on Barrack Street, between 6 and 8pm. Come along and show your support for Pieta House. T-shits are available on the night for those who register. You Can still register on-line at https://www.darknessintolight.ie/sign-up

REFRESHMENTS: We will be providing refreshments after the event in the Community School again this year on 11th May 2024. We are asking any keen bakers to support the event and donate something. Anything being donated can be left in Nomad Coffee (Shercock Road) during the day of 10th May or in The Lemon Tree (Barrack Street) that evening between 6 and 8pm.

Walk, Jog or Run: Now that the evenings are short again, there will be running and walking for all levels,  beginners and advanced. Fun and free, social gathering in the Chapel car park,  Lake Shore,  Bailieborough at 8pm. All old and new people welcome.  It’s a well lit up run.  Stretch before and afterwards, every Monday and Wednesday evening.  

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club: Hurling News: 7th April 2024

Senior/county squads; The Seniors got the season up and running when going down to defeat to a well drilled Craobh Rua side in the Spring League. Next up is a home game v St. Malachys on Sunday next. Special congratulations to both Cian O’Brien and Philip McKeon who made their adult debuts today moving up from many years in the juvenile ranks.

The county Seniors prepare for the Lory Meagher Cup with the first round against newly crowned NHL 3B champions Warwickshire in what will be a very competitive opener this coming Saturday in Kingspan Breffni.

County U20s prepare for All Ireland C semi final in early May v Monaghan.

County U17s had their first run out in the Celtic Challenge going down to Louth in the first round.

County U15s had a good game v Louth on Friday last with East Cavan Gaels men performing very well.
