Bailieborough Parish Church Concert: featuring – Philomena Begley, Gloria, Boxcar Brian, Liam Kelly Music and The Hot Country Band in the Hotel Bailie on Friday 9th  November – Doors at 7.30pm – Admission €20. Tickets available at the Hotel Bailie in advance or at the door on the night.

Castle Lake Development Works:

 Access to the Castle Lake, Car Park at Drumkeery and Lake Trails remains closed to the public for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Limited access will be available from the Cavan Road. Signs will be up within the Forest notifying you of Walk Closures. Please respect them, due to the potential for injury or disruption of work.

Works will be taking place on upgrading of the Car Park and Trails and development of a new trail through the recently planted Peace Forest. There will be heavy machinery working for a period of 4 weeks clearing drains and upgrading trails damaged by erosion. Please inform any friends and family of this notice. Bailieborough Celtic A.F.C.:

Presentation evening for our under 8s, 9s and under 10s players will take place in the ‘Hideout’ on Saturday afternoon next, 13th of October at 4.00pm. All players will receive a CMUL medal, finger food will be provided and there will be a chance to win prizes in our raffle. Music will be played by DJ Gareth Mulhall. All support will be very welcome.

Bailieborough Mental Health Association:

To mark Mental Health Week, the Bailieborough Mental Health Association are placing a stand in the canopy of Tesco, Bailieborough on this Friday 12th, October from 10:00am to 4:00pm, to promote good Mental Health and distribute literature and copies of their book of essay winners. Upgrading of Pedestrian Crossing on Main St.:

Work has commenced on the pedestrian crossing at Main Street, Bailieborough on Monday last. These works will see the installation of new flashing beacons which will make this crossing safer for pedestrians and shoppers. Works have now been completed on the footpaths on Lower Main St and Church St.

 

October—Month of the Rosary:

The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto on the Virginia Road every evening at 7.30pm, except on Saturdays. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

 

Vincent’s Shop:

We are approaching the start of the yearly festivities and I would like to ask if when doing your Autumn cleaning that if you come across items, outfits, decorations that are in reasonable condition for either Halloween or Christmas that you donate them to us. Thank you for your fantastic response to our need for paper and plastic carrier bags, it has helped us out enormously. We will be opening all day on Saturday from 10am –5pm from on Saturday next, 13th October.

 

Social Dancing:

Our social dancing this month is on Saturday next 13th October in the Community Centre. Music is by Brendan Magee and Eugene Cunningham, two very talented musicians. Brendan is on guitar, accordion and vocals. Eugene is on guitar, mandolin and vocals. Supper will be served as usual. You are sure to enjoy this event. All welcome.

 

Poetry Masterclass:

The Poetry Masterclass Series with multiple poets is a collaboration between Cavan Arts and The Irish Writers Centre which starts in Bailieborough Library on Saturday next, 13th October from 11.00am – 1.00pm.

‘Race for Grace’:

How do you say thank you to so many people… thank you everyone who came to support the ‘Race for Grace’ on Saturday, September 22nd.  A huge thank you to Tony Gregory for everything that he did and to all who helped out, sandwich makers, bakers and stewards but especially to ‘Feileacain’ and ‘A Little Lifetime Foundation’ who have been a fantastic support to not only our family but lots of families in this sad situation. It looks like we’ve raised over €2,000 for these two fantastic charities.

Citizen’s Information:

The service continues on every Tuesday, at 1.30pm in the Library— providing information, advice and advocacy supports to everyone on Social welfare, employment, Pensions, Health, Tax etc.  No appointment necessary.

 

Mattress Recycling:

On Saturday, October 20th Mattresses can be brought to the waste recycling facility in Bailieborough for free. It’s part of an anti-dumping initiative to combat the illegal dumping of mattresses across the countryside. Household customers will able to recycle up to four mattresses for free.

 

Cootehill Pony Club:

We would like to thank everyone who supported our Annual Memorial Charity Drive on Sunday, September 23rd. It was a good day for a great cause: Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care.  A special word of thanks to the owners of the 23 horses and ponies that took part in the event and to all the supporters. Congratulations to Michael Loughran and Shane O’Neill on winning the Perpetual Shield and Cup for best turned out. We also would like to thank the Border Counties club and Loughshore Club for their support during the year. We had a safe and enjoyable years driving. Thanks to Jamie Callaghan for the photos throughout the year, you done a great job. Thank you to everyone who supported us and helped out in any way.

 

The ’Open Door Sessions’:

This month’s ‘Open Door Sessions’ will take place downstairs in Nixy’s, The Square Bar, Bailieborough on Friday night, October 19th commencing at 9.00pm. A mix of folk music, spoken word and upbeat pop performances from Lily Burke, Lizzy Byrne and Paul McCann. All welcome.

 

Funding:

Under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme the Bailieborough Development association has secured funding of €100,000, to develop the main car park and the installation of seating in the Bridewell building, on Lower Main St.

 

Deepest Sympathy:

Deepest Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of d of Dermot Oliver Byrne, Essex, London and formerly Bailieborough, Co. Cavan and Dundalk, Co. Louth who passed away peacefully in London on Tuesday, 18th September 2018, in the loving care of his sister Cynthia. Sadly missed and remembered with love by his family and many friends in both London and Ireland. Dermot’s Funeral Mass in took place in Essex, London, on Friday, 5th October, followed by committal in Forest Park Crematorium. A Memorial Mass will be held in Ireland at a later date.

Walk, Jog, Run or Crawl!

Run, walk, crawl or jog every Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Community Centre, Chapel Road, Bailieborough at 8pm.  It’s free!!!! And there is no catch! All newcomers welcome.  Anyone want to try kayaking? If you do, be at the Town Lake at 7.00pm. Tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits afterwards. All newcomers welcome.

 

St. Anne’s Nation School: Fun Run:

St. Annes National School is organising a ‘Fun Run’ on Sunday, October 21st, commencing at the Community Centre. Registration will be between 11am and 12 noon. Entry fees are 5 for individuals and 10 per family. Individuals and families are invited to walk or run the 1K or 5 K routes. People are encouraged to wear fancy dress for the event and raffle tickets will be on sale for the St. Anne’s N.S. Halloween Hamper Draw. This promises to be a colourful occasion to which the whole school is looking forward to. We would love you to join us for this fun event.

 

St. Anne’s Folk Choir:

Practice for the Folk Choir take place every Tuesday evening at 8.15pm, in St. Anne’s Church. New members would be very much appreciated and welcomed.

 

‘Nightwalk’:

A Walk in aid of ‘Aware’ and ‘Parkinson’s’ will be taking place on Friday, 26th of October, leaving from the Royal Breffni, Tierworker at 7.15pm.  Please bring a torch and high visibility jacket or vest. All welcome.

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club – Hurling News 8th October 2018

Under 7/9/11; Due to the extended season for the U13/15/17s and adult sides indoor hurling will be postponed until we get these lads finished. All will receive a text when we are ready to go.

Under 13; Three rounds of Ulster blitzes coming up to finish out the season. First round scheduled for Sunday next 14th.

Under 15; A good win v Mullahoran/Castlerahan on Monday last in the Championship.

Senior; A good performance from our lads v Mullahoran on Sunday last. Mullahoran had a good 10-minute spell where they put on the gas to pull away but otherwise our lads very happy with how they played. Final round next week v Cootehill.
