Mid-Summer Festival:
Only 2 days away! Posters and signs are now up on the main roads leading into the town and further afield!! The Programme of Events has been published and the flyers are available in the shops in the town or on the Mid-Summer Festival Facebook page. All that is needed now, is for the weather to be kind and the crowds to turn out over what promises to be a very exciting and entertaining weekend for the town.
Friday, July 21st, Midsummer Festival Duathlon:
Run: 5k/2.5k, Cycle: 10k/20k Run: 5k/2.5k. Registration from 6.00pm, with the event starting at 7.00pm. Registration fees: €15 individuals/€20 teams. Cash prizes/Free BBQ for all entrants. Also 5k Fun Run/Walk. Registration €5. All welcome. The starting point will be at the Thomas Street Car Park (Kingscourt Road) and the event will finish at the pedestrian crossing on Main St. For further information, please contact Tony at 086 3993430.

Johnny Brady and his band will play from 4-6 pm on Main Street and this will include the ‘Jiving competition’. Judged by dance champion Gerard Butler.
Winner will qualify for the All-Ireland Jiving Finals in the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe plus accommodation.
Johnny Brady will be taking control on the Sunday and Brendan Jermyn will be on the warm up duties. We will also have Elite Country Radio on the day as well!

The Annual Blessing of the Graves will take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery on Sunday, September 3rd. Now would be an ideal time to tend the plot of a family member or loved one.
Bailieborough Tidy Towns:
The battle against weeds and litter continues every Tuesday. Meet at Market Sq. at 7pm. All welcome. We would appreciate if all Business and home owners in the town and surrounding area [from the 50k

‘Tree of Hearts and Tears’ an art workshop facilitated by poet, Heather Brett, on Saturday, July 22nd at 2.30pm-4pm for all children over 9 at Bailieborough Library. A wonderful opportunity to engage with art and poetry under the guidance of Heather. Finished pieces will be displayed on a tree of ‘Hearts and Tears’ in the library! Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.:
After a great response the Soccer Academy will be going ahead for children born in 2010 and 2011 starting on Saturday 12th of August from 12.30 to 1.30pm. Pre-season training for our Under 16’s team (players born in 2002) will start on Thursday 20th July at 7pm and continue each Thursday until the start of the 2017-2018 season in mid-September. From Shercock travel towards Cootehill, at 3.8 kilometres turn right for Ballybay, a further 2 kilometres turn left and continue for a further 2.5 kilometres to the school on the right. All welcome.
‘Reflections’ is a beautiful exhibition of paintings featuring some Cavan landscapes, by Wexford artist, Niki Purcell, which is on show at the Library from Thursday July 20th to Tuesday August 15th. All welcome and admission is free!

The ‘Open Door’ Sessions:
We’re delighted to welcome back local musician Sam Geraghty with his new three-piece band Safari. Safari have a sound that is difficult to describe, one part surf-pop, one part neo-punk, either way their live shows are reported to be well worth experiencing.
Niki Purcell is a landscape artist who is exhibiting at the Bailieborough Library in conjunction with the Bailieborough Mid-Summer Festival. We’re looking forward to her interview with resident interviewer, Elena Duff.
Paul McCann is singer/songwriter from Co Cavan. He has performed with The Strypes, Sandy Kelly, Duncan Maitland (Picturehouse) and Nelson Bragg (Brian Wilson Band/Beach Boys), among others. In 2015 Paul released his highly-acclaimed debut EP which was titled ‘The Magician’. July 2017 will see the release of his second self-produced and home recorded EP titled ‘Press Record’. Come along to Fox’s Bar and Restaurant, Main St. on Friday, July 21st from 9pm. All welcome.
Bailieborough Red Cross—New Defibrillator:
Well done to the Local Red Cross who installed a very important piece of life saving equipment beside the ‘Carry Out Shop’ on the corner of Bailieborough Main Street and the Shercock Road over the weekend. Defibrillators are so important in every area. They can be the difference between life and death. We never know when someone in our community will need one. Please respect this vital piece of life saving equipment. A big WELL DONE and MASSIVE PRAISE most go to the Local Red Cross who always have our best interests at heart.
Mybologue Historical Society:
The committee are absolutely bowled over by the turnout and response they have had over the weekend. A strong community spirit and willingness of people to volunteer and give of their time is definitely alive and well in the parish of Kilmainhamwood and Moybologue, the surrounding townlands, Bailieboro, Killann, Maudabawn, Nolagh, Shercock and East Cavan in general! A huge thank you to everyone who turned out over the last few days from near and far to volunteer and support. It is all hugely appreciated.
With your help we managed to number all 337 grave-markers, photograph the inscriptions of all 337 grave-markers, and record in excess of 170 of the inscriptions. This was no mean feat in two days!
Thank you to John Tierney from Eachtra Archaeological Projects for leading the project so efficiently, in sunshine and rain, and keeping everyone interested and involved over the two days.
To the volunteers who took part in numbering, photographing and recording; Eamonn Donnelly, Joe Gargan, Amy Gargan, Carmel O’Callaghan, Lloyd Forde, Tony McCabe, Catherine McCormack, Lil McCormack, Patricia Brady, Bernard McEntee and John Joe O’Reilly.
To those who came along and provided information regarding loved ones interred in the graveyard, especially Patricia Brady, who also gave us great information on the two grave-markers made by her grandfather Jemmie O’Reilly from Bailieboro, Rose McCabe and Joe McCabe and William Daly who all gave information about their ancestors buried in the graveyard.
To T.P. Callaghan, Ultan Callaghan and Matt Donnellan who came along and provided invaluable insight into the restoration works on the graveyard in 1988 and local history of the graveyard throughout the years.
To the many people who called in to observe and chat over the last few days, Fr. John Cooney PP, Kathleen Cooney, Terence Dunne, Vincent Meleady, Justin O’Reilly and many others.
Last but not least, the committee wishes to publicly acknowledge the financial support received by means of a very generous financial donation from Matt Carolan, originally from the townland of Srahan next door to the graveyard, and residing for many years in the USA, which enabled this graveyard inscription recording project to take place. Words cannot express our collective gratitude to you Matt, and we hope you take great enjoyment and pride in what you have helped to bring about in your native parish of Moybologue.

Bailieborough Library Parent, Baby and Toddler Group has proven to be a vital life line for all stay-at-home parents who may be new to the area and wish to get out of the house and make new friends. There is a huge range of toys for children to play with, while parents can enjoy a cup of tea and chat.
