Bailieborough ‘Active Age’ Group: The Group resumed yesterday, Tuesday, January 16th in the Courthouse, Bailieborough. If conditions were tricky underfoot on Tuesday, then the Group will be postponed until Tuesday, 23rd January. Come along and enjoy a get-together in a warm, friendly enviroment. We love to see new faces.

Outdoor Classroom’: An ‘Outdoor Classroom’ has been created on Parish land at the Town Lake. This will highlight the biodiversity in this wetland area.This work has been carried out by the Parish Green Group with the support of a grant from Co. Cavan Municipal Council. The area is located on the Chapel Road carpark side and close to the boat slipway. 

Bailieborough Bowls: Bowls continues on Wednesday’s at 8.00pm, in the Community Centre, Chapel Road. New members are very welcome.

Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.:

All players, current and new, are more than welcome to come down and train, with the possibility of having 2 teams if numbers are strong this season.

Regretted Death: Deepest Sympathy is extended to loving wife Maeve, daughters Rosemarie and Pauline, son-in-law Pela, grandchildren Elena and Ivan, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, extended family and friends on the death of Thomas (Tommie) Clarke, Maio, Tierworker, Kells, Co Meath/ Tierworker, Cavan, who passed away peacefully on Friday, 12th  January 2024, surrounded by his family, at Cavan General Hospital.

Tommie was predeceased by his parents Owen and Lucy.

Tommie’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Newcastle on Tuesday, January 16th and afterwards, Tommie’s remains, were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Bailieborough.

Bridge: Bridge takes place every Tuesday evening in the Bailie Hotel at 7.30pm and new members are always welcome.

Lakelands Taekwondo and Self Defence, Adult Classes: Improve your strength, fitness, flexability, stamina and agility. Ballinamoney Parents Association: ‘Thank You’:  Christmas Tractor Run on Sunday, December 10th 2023. We raised in excess of €5,000, which will enable us to support the school in providing items, that are not ordinarily funded by the Department of Education. We would like to extend a very big ‘Thank You’ to the businesses who donated spot prizes and sponsorship to the event. Our thanks also to those who took part in the run and to all who supported the event. It would not have been the success it was without you and our businesses. Please continue to shop local and support local businesses, who are central to supporting community events like ours. 

Bailieborough Library:Three FREE workshops with esteemed poet, Noel Monahan exploring ‘The Landscape About Knockbride’ will take place at the Library on Saturday Feb 17th, 24th and March 2nd  from 2.30pm-3.30pm. Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the first Wednesday—please note the change of day— of each month from 2pm-4.30pm. No appointment is necessary.

Bailieborough Men’s Shed: Bailieborough ‘Men’s Shed’ is open every Tuesday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm in the Bexcourt Centre, Shercock Road. New members are always most welcome.

Walk, Jog or Run: Now that the evenings are short again, there will be running and walking for all levels,  beginners and advanced. Fun and free, social gathering in the Chapel car park,  Lake Shore,  Bailieborough at 8pm. All old and new people welcome.  It’s a well lit up run.  Stretch before and afterwards, every Monday and Wednesday evening.  

East Cavan Gaels GAA Club: Hurling News 15th January 2024

Happy new year to one and all!

Senior; We will have a medal presentation and appreciation night to acknowledge the fine achievements of winning the Cavan league two years in a row in Nixys, The Square Bar in Bailieborough this coming Friday 19th  January from 8pm with music by Shane McCluskey. We invite all to celebrate this fantastic achievement by manager Adam Baldwin and the entire squad.

Half a dozen of our club men are with the county Senior squad as they prepare for life in Division 3A for 2024 after their successful season in 2023. The first game comes up in a fortnight with a trip to Sligo. Best wishes to them for the new season.


County training for U17 began on Monday 15th from 6.45-8pm at Kingspan Breffni 3G. New players are always welcome. The county U20 squad, under the tutelage of our own Pat O’Flaherty and Cootehills Michael Boyle have begun preparations for the 2024 season.

All other club age grades will return to training from early February. Watch this space…….
