For several years we have been collecting stories from people around the world about their play experiences as children. Our goal is to compile a broad data base of information about children’s play that will be useful to people in many fields. Plans are to make the results of the study available in book form and on the internet. It is an ambitious effort to chronicle the play of youth over many generations and in different cultures.

I am from Canada with Mulligan Irish ancestors on my late mother’s side. We return to Ireland each year to our home in Cootehill, Co Cavan where we have been made very welcome by our new friends and neighbours. While we have thousands of stories from people around the world, as yet we have few from Ireland. To enhance our work we would like to have many stories of childhood from the Emerald Isle, particularly from our seniors.

We invite the Irish public to participate in our project. In addition to contributing to our study we believe that there are significant personal benefits to people who participate. We encourage respondents to make a copy of their completed form as part of a family history record. Please contact us at the email address or phone number below to arrange for a copy of the Play Questionnaire or for an interview. Thank you for considering our request.

irelandexologoIreland XO is the national reverse genealogy programme. Working to connect 70 million Irish Diaspora back to their place of origin in Ireland. Find the Parish your people came from, join your parish group and reconnect.

The Ireland Reaching Out (IrelandXO) programme is based on a simple idea; instead of waiting for people of Irish descent to trace their roots, we go the other way. Working through voluntary effort at a townland, village and parish level in Ireland, we identify who left those areas, and trace them and their descendants worldwide. IrelandXO offers a free service and it is a not for profit organisation.
