Bailieborough ‘Active Age’ Group: Next social meeting is on Tuesday, May 7th  in the Courthouse from 2pm to 4pm. A warm welcome to all. To-date the group have been very blessed to have interesting guest speakers, artists and musicians give a half hour of their time in sharing their interests and passions. Knock: Bailieborough Church Choirs have been invited to provide music at the Diocesan Pilgrimage  to Knock on Saturday, August 9th, 2024. St. Anne’s Church Choir are having rehearsals on Tuesday evenings in the Church at 6.30pm. All are welcome.

Congratulations and Well Done: Congratulations to East Cavan Swimming Club members and students of Bailieborough Community School and Colaiste Dun a Ri,  Alana Carling, Aoibheann Taaffe, Kerry Buckland Morris, Lian Moore, Roisin Pierce and Tatiana Juricova on the super performances for Bailieborough Community School and Coláiste Dun a Rí on Saturday last, in the Ulster Schools Swimming Association’s Key Stage 3 and 4 Championships, held in the Ards Blair Mayne Well Being and Leisure Complex in Newtownards.

Well done to Lian and Tatiana reaching finals with Tatiana achieving bronze medals.

The Bailieborough Community School relay teams won bronze and silver medals (Alana, Aoibheann, Lian, Roisin and Tatiana). Well done ladies on some terrific results.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Vincent, son Philip and daughter-in-law Paula.

Alice’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Wednesday, April 17th and afterwards Alice’s remains were laid to rest in St. Bridgid’s Cemetery, Knockbride West (Tunnyduff).

Well Done: Well Done to local girl and Bailieborough Shamrocks player, Erelle O’ Sullivan and the Cavan Ladies Gaelic Football Under 14 squad who won the Platinum Ulster Final held in Castleblaney on Sunday last, when they defeated Tyrone by 3—11 to 2—7. Well done ladies.

Regretted Death: The death has occurred of Anne Smyth (née Reilly), Greaghlough, Bailieborough and formerly of Corlatt, Mullagh, Co. Cavan, unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday, the 17th April 2024 at her residence. Anne was predeceased by her husband Tom, sister Helen and her parents Anna May and John.

Anne will be sadly missed by her family Dermot (Audrey), Barry (Emer), Patrick (Claire) and Áine (Ciarán), her adored 10 grandchildren Tom, Sam, Anna, Joe, Sarah, Carrie, Ollie, Billy, Lucy and Evie, her sister Mary Frances and brothers Hugh and Gene, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Anne’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Cross on Sunday, April 21st and afterwards, Anne’s remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Darkness into Light, Bailieborough: ‘Darkness into Light’, Bailieborough will take place on the morning of Saturday, May 11th at 4.15am.

REGISTRATION EVENING: We will be holding a registration on Friday 26th  April, in The Lemon Tree bar on Barrack Street, between 6 and 8pm. Come along and show your support for Pieta House. East Cavan Gaels GAA Club: East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club News 21st April 2024

Senior/county squads; Club Seniors had a good 2-18 to 2-15 win away to Banbridge in the Spring League on Sunday last to get their first win of the season.

The county men had an enthralling draw with favourites Fermanagh in Brewster Park on Saturday with Liam, Nickey, Jack Barry and Jack McGuinness all playing starring roles in a brilliant game. Next up is an away trip to play Lancashire.

County U20s prepare for All Ireland C semi final in early May v Monaghan.

County U17s had another good outing away to Fermanagh with Lee Barry playing well.

U8/10/12/14/16/18; Under 12/14/16 club training Wednesday time tbc on the astro at Bailieboro Celtic AFC.

Our U16s performed very well on their trip to Inniskeen on Monday last. They host Knockbridge on Monday at 7.45 in Killinkere.

Under 12 Monaghan League will begin in the next weeks tbc.

Under 8 and under 10s await the start of the Monaghan blitzes on May 1st.

St. Annes Green Group: Spring has sprung. The Daffodils are blooming and the bees are buzzing. The St. Annes Green Group was established in 2021, to be an active participant in the actions laid out by Pope Francis in his Laudato Si encyclical. To date the group has participated in many biodiversity actions throughout the Bailieborough area, including mass bulb planting, outdoor nature classroom at the Town Lake, tree planting initiative, and a public SEAI energy meeting for businesses. The group have lot more initiatives in the pipeline and they would love parishioners to join their group of enthusiastic nature lovers. If interested, please contact Eilish (086 827 3470) or Fr. Deepest Sympathy:  Mary Neacy (formerly McConnell), Relaghbeg and Drumbannon, Bailieborough, Co Cavan passed away on Sunday, 7th  April 2024 peacefully in the Green Park Nursing Home, Armagh. Mary was predeceased by her son Pete and daughter Ann, her partner Gabriel, brother James and sister Nita.

Mary will be sadly missed by Peter McConnell and her family Pat, Johnny, Maura, Eddie and James, brother Eddie (UK), daughters-in-law Helen, Jacqueline, Sharon and Camilla, sons-in-law Raul and Stephen, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Congratulations and Well Done: Congratulations to all the Killann Community Games  Swimmers who took part in the Cavan Community Games, Swimming Finals on Saturday afternoon last.

It was a fantastic afternoon with lots of medals and personal bests for everyone.

We have four swimmers who have qualified for the National Finals being held in Kilkenny in June. Mark U14 Breast, Sophia U14 Breast, Alana U16 Free and Tatiana U16 Back.

Maeve, wife of the late Tom, passed away peacefully in her 91st year on Thursday, April 4th, 2024 in the wonderful care of staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, surrounded by her adoring family Tomas, Blaithín, Siobhan and Fiona. Maeve was lovingly cared for by the staff at Silverstream Nursing Home, Duleek.

Maeve will be sadly missed by her extended family, Emer, Kieran, John and Cameron, beloved grandchildren Abi, Clara, Jared, Ella and Dylan, sisters Geraldine and Margo, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. Maeve was predeceased by her parents Mary and Thomas Smyth and siblings Phil, Carmel and Angela.

Senior/county squads; Unfortunately the club Seniors were given a walkover by St.Malachys in the Spring League. Training will continue in preparation for the next round.

The county side had a good win over Warwickshire in the first round of the Lory Meagher Cup in Kingspan Breffni on Saturday last with our men Liam, Jack Barry, Jack McGuinness and Nicky all playing significant roles. A huge test next weekend as they take on the favourites Fermanagh in Brewster Park.

‘Jims’ Day’–Golf Tournament in Memory of Jim Gorman: The Event in Memory of Jim Gorman,will be taking place at Mannan Castle Golf Club, Donaghmoyne, Carrickmacross, on this Saturday, April 13th 2024. Tee Times are from 11.00am to 1.00pm. Entry fees are €35 per player and €140 per team.

Senior/county squads; The Seniors got the season up and running when going down to defeat to a well drilled Craobh Rua side in the Spring League. Next up is a home game v St. Malachys on Sunday next. Special congratulations to both Cian O’Brien and Philip McKeon who made their adult debuts today moving up from many years in the juvenile ranks.

The county Seniors prepare for the Lory Meagher Cup with the first round against newly crowned NHL 3B champions Warwickshire in what will be a very competitive opener this coming Saturday in Kingspan Breffni.

County U20s prepare for All Ireland C semi final in early May v Monaghan.

County U17s had their first run out in the Celtic Challenge going down to Louth in the first round.

County U15s had a good game v Louth on Friday last with East Cavan Gaels men performing very well.

Bailieborough Tidy Towns: Clean up / Litter pick day on Saturday, April 6th .

We hope to litter pick on all approach roads to the town, if we have enough volunteers. This is your chance to clean up your own road or area. Meet at the Library at 10.30am.

Wear a high vis vest and bring a litter picker if you have one. All volunteers welcome.

Burial of Ashes: in St. Annes Cemetery on Saturday next, April 6th at 1.00pm of Breege Ellis (nee Geherty), who died in England and formerly of Anne Street.

Deepest Sympathy: John Joe Cooney, Lurganbawn, Bailieborough, Co Cavan passed away on Sunday,  24th  March 2024 peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, in the wonderful care of the staff in the ICU at Cavan General Hospital.

John Joe will be deeply regretted by his loving wife Anna, beloved father of Kathleen, Breda, Noeleen, Pauline, P.J., Geraldine, Annette and Declan, sons-in-law Seamus, Brian, Joe and Ciarán, daughter-in-law Niamh, cherished grandchildren Ciara, Laoise, Darragh, Eve, Séan, Anna, Tara, Aisling, Dylan, Cathy, Christopher, Fionn, John Joe, Shane, Angela and Patrick, his treasured niece Ann Tierney, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

John Joe’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Wednesday, March 27th and afterwards, John Joe’s remains were laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Regretted Death: Nicholas (Nick) Smith, Killann, Shercock, Co. Cavan passed away on Wednesday  27th  March 2024, peacefully surrounded by his family at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda in his 92nd  year. Nicholas was predeceased by his wife Pauline, his brothers and sister.

Sadly missed by his loving daughter Rosemarie, son-in-law Vincent, his adored grandchildren Dylan and Laura, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

 A Funeral Liturgy for Nicholas took place in St. Annes Church, Bailieborough on Saturday, March 30th and afterwards, Nicholas’s remains were laid to rest in St. Annes Cemetery.

Bailieborough Library: Book Club: Next meeting is on Tuesday, April 30th  at 6.30pm and the book for discussion will be  ‘A Spool of Blue Thread’ by Anne Tyler and is now available at the Library desk. New members are always welcome!

 Careers: Thinking of changing career, need advice on careers, educational needs, CV help, interview skills – CMETB (Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board) will facilitate a FREE drop in service at the Library on the last Wednesday of each month from 2.15pm-4.30pm. Bailieborough Men’s Shed: Bailieborough ‘Men’s Shed’ is open every Tuesday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm in the Bexcourt Centre, Shercock Road. New members are always most welcome.

Tractor, Car and Bike Run: A Tractor, car and bike run will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 3.00pm,, leaving from Killann Football pitch. Registration will take place from 1.30pm. Proceeds to works being done on Killann pitch dressing rooms and toilets. €20 entry. Please support.

Darkness into Light, Bailieborough: ‘Darkness into Light’, Bailieborough will take place on the morning of Saturday, May 11th at 4.15am. There are lots of ways to get involved. You can take part in a ‘Darkness into Light official walk, take part in your own way, or you can create your own Darkness into Light fundraiserby holding a Bake Sale,  a car wash, a sponsored silence, a run or a swim or fundraising with your family, friends and colleagues in your area. Senior; Our club Seniors, minus the county men, will begin their competitive season next Sunday as they travel to Newry for the opening round of the spring league. Best wishes to them for the season ahead.

U8/10/12/14/16/18; All enjoying the Easter break before we go headlong into another busy season for all. U15s are with the county on Monday afternoon with games coming up for them in the Hibernia Cup.

Under 12/14/16 club training Monday’s 7-8pm on the astro at Bailieboro Celtic AFC.

Our U16s will start the season with a trip to Monaghan to play St.McCartons on April 8th.

After school will return for the remainder of April then blitz season is upon them.
